AA Golf and Outing Club to Allow Groups to Reserve Spots

Submitted by Raoul on

Annarbor.com reports on a change to Ann Arbor Golf and Outing Club's parking policies:

Groups with six vehicles or more will be able to purchase season passes and reserve large blocks of spaces at spots of their choice.

. . .

The season passes will cost $375 per vehicle, based on a rate of $45 per vehicle for five regular-season games and $50 per vehicle for games against Notre Dame, Nebraska and Ohio State. Single-vehicle rates will remain at $40 for five regular-season games, and $50 for the Notre Dame, Nebraska and Ohio State.

Season-pass holders will be allowed access to the course at 7 a.m. on game days, a half hour prior to it opening to the general public. One vehicle may secure an area during the early entry period. Season-pass holders arriving after 7:30 a.m. will be directed to spots along with everybody else.

A press release from the AAGOC has a link to an application and further details, saying that "groups of 1-5 vehicles will also be accommodated with restrictions" and will be assigned a location in a specific area.

Also of note from the annarbor.com piece:

[AAGOC's "parking chairman" Larry] Eiler said he anticipates that 600 to 800 vehicles -- or roughly half the traffic the course sees on game day -- will take advantage of the new offering.

Reservations and payments must be made by Aug. 15.

Not a big fan of this. I am only one car, and my friends gather in it. I love parking there because you can stare at the stadium while you tailgate, I fear this will put me in a crappy spot now. Looks like I may have to hit the UM Golf Course now, just so I can get there earlier.

We've been parking there for the last 15 years and I have a feeling this year will be our last. I have a hard time shelling out nearly $50 per game to park especially since I can't go to every game.
<br>AAG&O is a great location but they are pricing themselves out of the market.

If anything, this just underscores the University's imminent need to figure out the parking situation.  Throw a deck at the back of the Blue Lot already.  Prices are getting ridiculous because there's nowhere else to park, there's talk of seating capacity increases...  How much longer is this madness going to continue?

It's great that they listened to their customers, but sad that they are gouging people in today's economy. It's obviously sound business practice: raise your prices as high as you can until you start losing revenue, then drop them back to the level of highest profit.

I guess the good news is that if they price enough people out of the market, those people will park on side streets a mile and a half away and get some exercise.
