Is anyone else hearing Valentti and Foster ripping Tate about sitting on the bench away from the team? They are now ripping his dad for stating that the media has mistreated Tate worse than any other QB in Michigna history??? really, it's pretty ad if he feels that way
97.1 ripping Tate
Why do you listen to 97.1??
broken radio dial?
and just break the rest of the radio if it's stuck there.
My thoughts exactly. It's like Freep on the radio.
But as I have always said, the numbnuts on sportstalk radio are largely harmless. They don't do anything, except to act as deliberate provacateurs for meaningless arguments. Their producers would regard it as a major success, to know that MGoBlog is earnestly discussing them, and complaining about how they don't like the opinions that are being aired on 97.1. That would make Valenti's producer's whole freaking day. "Success!"
The real difference between the Freep and 97.1 is that the Freep took the time, and the effort, to do enough falsified reporting to actually provoke a real, live, NCAA investigation.
You'd never see 97.1 in a role of that importance, or significance.
It is becoming quite funny to me; it was very, very hard to see Tate at Saturday's game, if you were there. It is one of the least important things about the whole day. But if you are one of the 97.1 listeners who might never go to a Michigan game at all, it seems to be a very big deal. I presume that there were some sideline camera shots of Tate. Uh, wow. Count me as, uh, unimpressed.
I'll be interested in 97.1 when they invite on as a guest Katrina Hancock, to explain her sources and her story about a Tate Forcier transfer. As soon as, uh, yesterday.
What should we listen to? At least I get a laugh at some of the ignorance that gets broadcast from there.
Ok wise-guy, what station should he listen to?
Provide me another local radio station and I'll listen to it. 1050 basically stops being local after 10am when Sam and Ira go off air. Karsch and Anderson are good till 2pm, but from 2pm on....? I'm not listening to Cowherd and Scott Van Pelt is awesome but too national for my interests.
I've learned to listen to Valenti and Foster if only just to hate them and the MSU fanbase more.
edit: joeyb, beat me to it while typing. oh well.
Mozart, Haydn, Stravinsky, Dvorak, Brahms, Handel and Rossini.
Much better than Karsch, Anderson, Valenti, Foster and Caputo.
Unless, of course, you miss all of the advertisements for personal injury attorneys, debt collection services and gold dealers.
Love the classical days and jazzy nights.
Besides it should provide some relaxation considering listening to those fools discuss Michigan is a sure way to raise the heart rate.
Although, Karsch is cool and Caputo was full of praise for Denard the other day.
If you want sports, I'd search out podcasts focused on teams/leagues you're interested in. Local sports radio is usually so horrific that I can't stomach in anything more than really small doses.
Well said. That is very true in Alabama as well. (unless you enjoy hearing the local sycophants share their man crushes on Saban daily)
I sometimes tune in because it's the only game in town, but when they start going off on a rant, I switch to music or whatever. Nothing they say is worth my blood pressure. And I knew to not even bother listening today...just knee they'd find something to pick at, so after Karsh and Anderson it went off.
Even though he was in the pre-interblogmessagechatboardz era, I think Navarre caught a little more flak then Forcier has so far.
Navarre had it worse than anybody. Still feel bad for the guy getting a pitcher of beer dumped on his head at Rick's after the loss to OSU in 2001.
Wish that I was there - no one deserves that kind of treatment.
(Just feeling hatred now for who ever did that to our QB)
I'd say I wish he'd have retaliated by throwing a full bottle of beer at the guy, but it probably would have sailed 10 feet high and hit Tacopants having a drink on the other side of the bar.
That guy took more crap than any player in Michigan history.
And he represented himself with total class. I don't want to pile on Tate, but some of his problems are of his own making. Big John did nothing wrong except not play as well as Drew Henson.
But a good deal of what he did "wrong" was because he was playing a year before he was supposed to, because Drew left. (And actually was thrown in to make a bad impression REALLY too early when Henson was hurt at the beginning of the season). Our first exposure to John in his Junior year, another year in camp and as a back up, and he'd have seemed like a pretty good replacement.
Hadn't heard that story, but I unfortunately can believe it. I have heard that people would bitch about him to his father at the games.
It was pre-MGoBlog, but there were plenty of college football message boards around from 2000-03, when he started. And he took a beating on them, sadly.
Because it's the only station that my boss plays at work. Not my choice!!!
Hey, it's the weekly "are you listening to the a-holes on 97.1 say bad, uninformed things about Michigan?" thread!
And its accompanied by the weekly comment pointing out the weekliness of the thread!
jesus, can we stop with getting in an uproar every time the idiot media says something idiotic? you understand that by acknowledging their existence and paying attention, you're helping them make money and playing right into what they want. they are hate/fear/anger mongers.
im seriously sick of people complaining, "oh valenti and foster did this", "oh rosenberg is a douche", "oh the freep is biased". WE ALREADY KNOW THIS. moreover, WE DON'T CARE ANYMORE.
that tiger didn't go crazy. that tiger went tiger.
Did he also sleep around on Mrs. tiger and get picked for the Ryder cup even though he didn't play well?
Thank you pasadenablue.
I just love the fact that I wanted to know what was being said and the first 412 responses either ask why you are listening to 97.1, a reason for listening to 97.1, or a general joke about the situtation (which I enjoy greatly).
More importantly, GO BLUE! Beat the Irish!
I would imagine it is pretty hard for a 19 year old kid who was alpha dog through high school and well into last year to deal with being passed by someone who did not appear to be a close threat last year. I'd imagine this all really came home to him during the game, no play time, when Denard did come out for two plays Devin went in, etc.
The TV coverage had no business focusing in on him for so long.
MGoBlog ripping 97.1.
Valentti and Foster are all class. Ripping a 19 year old kid for being disappointed that he didn't get a chance to play after starting the last two months of 2009 with an injured shoulder and playing through a seven game Big Ten losing streak. Give him hell guys.
I'll admit the way he acted was immature, but I am willing to cut Tate some slack for his questionable behavior.
In all fairness he did have a couple good points like Tates dad has no business releasing statements to the media, and it was embarrasing for the program to have him look like that instead of celebrating a good win with his teammates.
The TV coverage was pretty wack. ABC took away from a great ballgame to pump up their human interest story and fan the flames of dissent within the program.
Apologies if this sounds self-righteous, but I've decided to take a blackout approach to the TF issue. I'm just not going to listen to the debate; it's not even worth commenting on at this point. It's all in RR's hands at this point plus that of Denard's health and Devin's development, and how Tate responds to the adversity. Live-coverage PR volleys between Tate's dad, bloggers and radio whores like 97.1 does little to improve my enjoyment of Meeechigan football.
I was at the game and didn't witness any of this. This is a minor talking point overshadowed by the great win in my book.
Agreed. Tate is a 19 year old kid who started the ENTIRE 2009 season. He had his magic carpet ripped from beneath his feet, whether it was the spectacular improvements of Denard or the exceptional efforts of Freshman Devin.
The network should have focused on the GAME, not Tate. However, TF should not take the publicity to heart...He should know that each player''s realm on the field will be determined by their individual efforts. Let the Forc"ier" be with you Tate! May you rise to occassion! Be a TEAM player, whether its you, Denard, or Devin leading the mightly Wolverines to a Victory!!!! We support you all!
tate's dad was right, it seems like the MSM wants tate to transfer.
Of course they do.
Don't live in Detroit, so know nothing personally about Valenti and Foster. But they manage to get quite a rise out of many folks on mgoblog. Let it go, and don't waste your time listening to garbage. Too many UM fans are too thin skinned about (perceived) criticism of any kind.
I agree with SRK on this. I also agree that our best bet is to be strongly educated on the reality of what has gone on and what is going on in the program. Then we have good command of the facts and we can discuss them in a collegeal manner without the talk radio yelling. (collegeal--the David Brandon word from the Seattle hearings. Bad ass!!)
I have sent quite a few people the link to the Mitch Albom article from the Sunday before the opener. I tell them to read it and then hit me up with questions. Rich tells the truth there but he under sold how bad the situation was from a personell stand point. Like always, he behaved with class and deference toward the Carr era and Coach Carr.
People are shocked when they read it and even more shocked when I bring up all the good that has happened under this coach, on and off the field. They have literally heard none of it in the major media. I know Angelique has run some stuff that is positive, but it is largely drowned out.
is worse than Tate trying to hide from the cameras. As usual, these idiots like to focus on or create bad images versus focusing on the game and all the positives. These so-callled grown men are examples of how not to be a human or pitiful examples.
The fact that they are focusing on this is worse than Tate trying to hide from the cameras.
You mean Valenti is acting like a total asshat and Foster is his "yes man"? It can't be! Valenti always forms very educated opinions and knows it all! I always thought they were two respectable guys with a great radio show! My entire opinion of them has deteriorated all because of this!
because they see the future and have to try to detract from the pain train that is coming he has seen the future on saturday and it has to be pretty unsettling for them in a few weeks its on!!
Hot 97 is the best station. I like Angie Martinez and they usually play some of the best beats.
Oh you're talking about another 97.1. No wonder why they're talking about Forcier and not whether Jay-Z has beef with The Game or Rick Ross.
...the "Tate hate" signs that are surely going to be adorning the ND stadium this weekend. Hopefully, they'll have more class than to pour salt on Tate's wounds, but I wouldn't bet on it.
I really hope Tate sees the field for a few series and performs well.
I have been hearing a lot of "transfer then, Michigan doesn't want you," truth is, not only do we (I) want him to remain at Michigan and an interested/productive member of the team, but he needs to for this team to have consistent success. I loved what Denard was doing this weekend, but Forcier needs to see the field. Tate was not a middling 3 star recruit that came in and failed to produce. He was a highly regarded recruit that came in and exceeded expectations. I, for one, would like to see this thing worked out and him splitting time this weekend. Unfortunately, I think it is more than 50% in his hands and I am not sure he is going to let it die.
ND doesn't allow signs in their stadium, so there's that.
It's funny because neither of them like Michigan but all they ever talk about is Michigan. Mostly because it is the only way they ever get callers. When they try and talk about MSU the phones go dead.
