'92 Michigan versus '10 Kentucky

Jalen Rose and Jimmy King argue with Mr. Contrarian (Bayless) about how the Fab Five would have fared in this year's tournament, and versus Kentucky in particular.

Jimmy King: "You know we winnin' this Skip!"

+1 Jimmy King.

"Come on, you Wolverines!"

They were all huge(smallest was 6'5"), can run and jump. Kentucky are good, but Michigan's starting 5 > Kentucky starting 5. I'd give the edge to Kentucky on team depth. It's hard to tell because both are talented teams and have 3 lottery picks on the same team(Kentucky may have 4).

Yeah, Kentucky might have more depth, but Bayless' suggestion that Michigan couldn't guard Kentucky's frontcourt ignores the fact that both Chris Webber and Juwan Howard were 6-10 and went on to be all-star NBA power forwards.

Skip Bayless is an idiot.

I think the Fab 5's defense was very underrated. They were all "long" and very athletic. Their only (relatively) weaknesses were outside shooting and dribbling.

But take Patterson, Cousins and Orton into consideration on the inside and I do think it is a surprisingly good matchup.

Kentucky's top 5 backups might have been able to make the tournament this year as a starting 5 somewhere else...

As someone who grew up in Kentucky and is a Michigan alum, I can't honestly say whether it is a definitive win one way or the other.

This is Michigan.

College basketball has changed so much in the past 18 years, I think it's hard to see any of the powers from the early 90s not winning today.

At least two of the Fab 5 would have been one and done players today (Webber and Howard were unreal) and Rose may have gone as well. Having that whole group as sophomores would be just sick today.

It's all John Navarre's fault.

Jalen Rose said, and I'm paraphrasing, that yeah they didn't win, but they had a great run and that the Fab 5 was more than just basketball, it was culture. He then said that the Fab 5 and "they" (assuming he was talking about the Duke players) went out to the same place that night and only the Michigan guys got in. I love having Jalen represent on ESPN. He is ,by far, one of the most insightful commentators ESPN has had in quite a while; and he is always bringing a different take on things-which is very rare in today's world of clone sports show hosts.
