90 mins in...Valenti and Foster still talking Dorsey

Submitted by Rico616 on

I know everyone here hates Valenti but I'm surprised of how much of a puppet to Valenti Foster sounds like.

We are 90 minutes into the show and they are STILL talking Demar Dorsey. Seriously? And it laughs because when Michigan fans bring up Winston or MSU players, valenti's response is "Why are we talking MSU?" You would think they would want to talk Izzo, maybe Galarraga's return to the mound, or even the NBA Draft. Yet Mike Valenti's hatred for Michigan wont let him change the topic.

A caller from South Carolina pointed out that in SEC country, this wouldnt really be an issue. Thats why Big Ten gets their ass kicked by SEC schools and are only competitive against each other.

It's like a train wreck. I dont want to look/listen to this bullshit but I still do because it really makes me laugh.

Anytime they talk anything remotely Michigan I just turn it off and suggest you do the same, they are very good at taking one crackpot caller who roots for us and painting us all with that brush.  Their ability to be objective is laughable at best.

Not to mention the show used to be way better, all Mike does all day long is what I consider "trolling on radio" and Terry sits there like a lump.

They admitted it themselves on the show today.  They don't talk the entire show about MSU b/c it doesn't draw the listeners/callers like a Mich topic.

BTW, I'm listening b/c I'm stuck in a basement lab by myself.  And it IS Mich talk.  I'm tired of MLB, NBA talk.

What's bad is that Valenti is arguing why did we waste a scholarship on this guy?  Why didn't we recruit somebody else who didn't have a "past" and would qualify.  Frankly, I'm too busy to call in, but I wish someone would tell him we did.  We got a ton of safety/CB recruits and (forget his name, west coast guy) switched his commitment away from us on signing day.  Same with Dorsey, but it went to us.  So we didn't "waste" a scholarship on this guy.  In fact, we're still short 1 scholly.  Ugh.  Infuriating.

The absolute worst was a caller who claimed to be one of those anti-Rod Michigan fans said he should have been canned after losing to Appy St.  Ha, what a joke!  I'm glad he's following along with the program enough to comment on it (Hint bad UM fan: it was Carr).  I know a lot of MGoCommunity avoids 97.1 specifically b/c of Valenti, but I wish one of us would call in with a rational voice.

hated as usual the sparty stuff.  I know this is a business.  However, do you really think they could run a sports clothing line / store on their own accord.  lol that they piggy-back on the M-Den and sparties come in to buy gear in the back corner.  UM, good or bad, draw the listeners.  Usually more good than bad and want-to-be sparties that keep the clock running.

Assuming the caller was on-the-level (and not trying to be funny):

"The absolute worst was a caller who claimed to be one of those anti-Rod Michigan fans said he should have been canned after losing to Appy St."

To those who laughed at the possibility that UM fans would start blaming Rodriguez for The Horror, well, there you go.

The best thing these clowns won't let go of is "The Great Blue Divide", and how this is another faction at the U of M that is against RR. My question, what the hell does the admissions department care about RR?? They don't! They have a lot more to worry about when it comes to the institutional integrity of U of M than RR and one football recruit.

Oh, now they're giving the Izzo stuff about 30 seconds of air time. Why only 30 seconds or so Valenti? Scared Izzo might actually bolt??

I'm sure Valenti is doing it to avoid talking about Izzo. In the five minutes I listened to them yesterday, I heard Valenti say in a worried tone, "I really don't care if Izzo goes to the Cavs."

the idiots babbling and the media play might not be the worst thing in the world.  The Dorsey thing might have been sunk and buried, like it usually is, but for the heightened scrutiny.  I think, hopefully, that the more focus there is on this issue on the outside, the more pressure is placed on the inside.  This can't be blamed on RR.  It is 100% clear that those inside the program are f'n the head football coach.  That doesn't look particularly good.

I honestly don't think its worth anyone's time to call in and be rational since it doesn't get them ratings.  There is a reason the calls and texts they get tend be from the morons who think RR was the coach when The Horror took place, they don't really want conversation and actual dialogue.

I mean we are talking about the guy who thinks Deshawn Sims probably isn't coming back next year and a Spartan who's only success against us in his lifetime has come during our worst period in half a century or so.

You can see how he has changed.  They said the same thing about Gregg Henson on the other side, but they are both hacks.  Mike used to be very prepared and insightful and still was able to get ratings, he doesn't do that anymore he just plays his character it's sad really.  That's why I have to find outlets like this for my sports, I love goood sports talk radio there's just very little anymore, I just listen to NPR at least their stuff is well produced and professional even if it is one sided.

I had really no idea what the Big Lead who/what the Big Lead was prior to yesterday, before that I had only heard about it as a trusted blog from Valenti when he read the Delonte West post from their site.  He was decent radio guy who was pretty well read and researched prior to the MSU meltdown at Notre Dame and his subsequent meltdown the next day.  He realized that he could get a lot more attention/listeners by being loud and douchey and he didn't actually have to put in any effort.  Valenti really is the part of that new sports media the Bisssinger railed against, he's glib, shallow, and quickly descends to the lowest common denominator.  Just don't listen and he won't bother you.

I've tried calling in several times to offer a counterpoint to the uninformed Michigan bashing that goes on in that show, but I've always been denied. Seems like the only Michigan "fans" they allow to voice their opinions on that show are the idiots who sound like they can barely tie their own shoes, or these people who are extremely anti RR and offer up completely uninformed, unfair, and outlandish criticisms of the coach.  Valenti and Foster are not interested in having a logical debate, and are not willing to let anyone on the air who will refute their busted logic. It really sucks that there aren't any legit sports radio hosts in Detroit during the afternoon drive time. You've got tweedle dumb and tweedle dumber on 97.1, Jeff Defran on WTKA, and Drew Sharp on WDFN. I'd rather jam chopsticks in my ears than listen to any of those morons.

going to be a slow news day for 97.1 when the morning show brought it up... they were talking about one thing and then all of sudden stoney brings up the dorsey issue and it sounded like it was forced on him to bring it up... as soon as he brought it up he said "this will probably get talked about on doug and gators show today" it was like he didn't even want to touch it.... i didn't even listen to doug and gator today because my boss turned on 94.7, but as soon as the lunch rush was over and he left the kitchen i turned on 97.1 and got to hear the lead into valenti and foster... once again valenti talked about his "source" that is close to the program and how this "source" filled him in on what was really going on and so on and so forth... i was able to listen to one caller and then i changed back to 94.7... when i left work i turned them on again hoping that they have moved on and they didn't so i jumped station to station as i drove home... this is the first time that they have made it blatantly obvious that they are using a michigan issue to drum up phone calls for all of their shows... the morning show hardly ever talks about sports unless its one of the pro teams so to me it was odd to hear them talk about dorsey...

Its entertainment, like the WWF and daytime talk shows like Springer or Jeraldo where people find out live if they are the father of some child. If you tune in, you need to know what you are tuning into.

... I used to be a Valenti supporter/fan, but lately I've had enough.

Not so much the UM bashing, which I expect.  Or the Sparty tongue-bathing, which is part of the drill.

But the way he and Foster demagogued the recent accidental death of the young girl in a Detroit police raid gone awry really turned me off.  I can't stand it when sports talk show hosts venture into politics or current events.  If I want that, I'll turn on cable, which I can't stand either.

Except when they are featuring the Wolverines or the Tigers...

Who in the national media is even on our side for anything anymore? It seems everyone just wants to bash us even though they have limited knowledge of what's going on.
