Cass Tech gets the ball to start.
#9 Cass Tech knocks off #2 Brother Rice 25-18; Damon Webb career night
Cass Tech fumbles on a Jayru Campbell pass to Drake. Brother Rice recovers.
Timeout Cass Tech. 3rd & 8 for BR.
BR went 3&out but got an automatic first down due to Cass Tech getting a roughing the kicker penalty on the punt.
3rd down BR. Ball on the CT 10.
Cass Tech stuffs BR at the goaline on 4th and goal. But LB/RB Gary Hosey gets tackled in the endzone on CT's possession. 2-0 Brother Rice, 7:38 in the 1st Quarter.
My question is, with all the talent cass tech has, why do they not blow everyone out? coaching?
Losing 2-0 right now
with all the recruits catholic central does NOT have, how do we win a state title every other year?
answer: intangibles are real when dealing with teenagers.
Brother Rice FG good. They lead 5-0 in the 1st quarter.
Brother Rice timeout.
Campbell is 2-4 so far. A near interception on the last play.
Jourdan Lewis with the catch for a first down!
Is there a reason someone is moderating these posts negatively? Please stop it.
I know it's taboo to talk about mgopoints and it doesn't really matter but it's really annoying when legitimate posts get grayed out. I know you can change the threshold, but I actually do want crappy posts grayed out. What if we limit the number of negs that can be given out in a certain period of time or something? Seems like there's been a few threads lately where someone with a stick up their ass just goes through and negs every single post.
My observation, right or wrong, is that it's not taboo to talk about others' mgopoints; it's just not cool to talk about your own.
In the offseason, a large segment of people here are always crotchety. It's just the way it goes. They get sick of a summer's worth of OT posts, and really seem to be touchy in August. The Pope could show up and bless everyone, and someone would find a reason to push the neg button.
Luckily, football starts in a week, and everything will be back to what constitutes "normal."
Huge gain by Gilmore. CT first down. They have found BR's weakness. Keep running it up the gut.
Weakness up the BR defensive gut?
Campbell now starting to hit his men. They are now in Brother Rice territory. Short passing game cutting up BR defense.
Cass Tech has some good offensive flow. Going for it on 4th down due to not having a FG kicker.
Jourdan Lewis drops a pass that would have been a touchdown. He was wide open but he took his eyes off it.
Cass Tech turns it over.
Lewis with the TD drop ouch!
End of the 1st quarter: #9 Cass Tech 0 #2 Brother Rice 5
Brother Rice really with some headscratching playcalling. Running on 3rd down and 9. They go 3 and out.
Is Al Fracassa (sp?) still the head ball coach?
Yes. He is the winningest head coach in Michigan HSFB history.
He also saw the dinosaurs of the planet. I'll take John Herrington over him. He also saw the dinosaurs off of the planet, but at a public school.
Fracassa and Rice are the reason Harrison went 15 years without playing a Catholic school
In Harrison's glory days they could have beaten a Catholic League All-Star team. Those teams were no joke.
Grew up in Farmington Hills...right....
Shanked punt by Brother Rice gives Cass Tech the ball in Warrior territory.
TOUCHDOWN CASS TECH! 50yd pass from Campbell to Damon Webb!
Cass Tech XP fails after a bad snap. Cass Tech leads 6-5.
are you at the game?/ If so, how's the turnout? If I remember correctly it's at Wayne State, right?
Yes and yes it is. The place is packed. People standing on the outside fences.
Brother Rice 46yd TD pass.
Thanks for doing this. Are you getting all of this from the audio?
Brother Rice leads 12-6 in the 2nd quarter.
40yd pass from Jayru Campbell to Deon Drake!
TOUCHDOWN CASS TECH! Trick play, Jourdan Lewis hits Damon Webb for 44yds for a TD!
A 44yd reverse pass by Jourdan Lewis to Damon Webb. Very good to see Cass Tech respond to a long touchdown by BR.
Ken Snapp XP no good, 12-12 tie game in the 2nd quarter.
FUMBLE! Damon Webb recovers the ball on the Brother Rice 15!
Brother Rice really should have snagged some more photos of players at The Opening with pads on. They're out of their league without that.
Webb with the big hit that caused the fumble, he also made the recovery. He has been the player of the game so far with a two TD grabs and a fumble recovery.
Just keeping up on twitter. But, man, Damon Webb.
4th and 13, CT going for it. No FG kicking game.
Campbell throws a pick on 4th and 13. Huge play for BR.
Iowa 2013 commit Delano Hill makes another big hit. Hit knocks the helmet off of the Brother Rice RB.
Timeout Cass Tech. Under 4 minutes left in the 1st half, 12-12 tie.
Brian Sanders and Willie White with the sack on Brother Rice. 4th down. BR will punt.
Interesting note, Terry Richardson, Devin Gardner and Kenny Demens are in the house I have been told.
Prospect Gary Hosey, LB/RB who is being recruited by Michigan as a RB is a bruiser. Just had a carry where it took SIX Brother Rice players to take him down.
Big pass by Brother Rice. Webb got beat on that one. Under 30 seconds left in the game.
2016 DE Josh Alabi, 6'5/230 with the sack.
what's the score?
Campbell takes a knee to end the half.
The score at halftime: #9 Cass Tech 12 #2 Brother Rice 12
Stats of note:
10 Jayru Campbell QB 2015 9-17 1 TD 1 INT
1 Jourdan Lewis WR/CB 2013 2rec-47yds 1 TD Pass
2 Damon Webb WR/CB 2014 2rec-100yds 2 TD 1 FF/Rec
i really think Damon Webb is the best player in the state next year. He is really, really good.
Sorry if I missed it but how has Dawson looked?
Pretty good I would say. Definitely the class of his OL. They have let up a couple sacks but they are playing #2 in the state.
Been making some good holes for Keshawn Gilmore and giving Campbell some good time back there while he was passing.
Second half is underway. Brother Rice gets the ball.
A great stop by Cass Tech on 4th and short.
We have a major problem here. There is a huge group of people RUNNING to the north endzone. The players and coaches have been instructed to hit the ground. Play has stopped.
The announcers made it sound like a fight or something along that nature
Police are gathering down the steet, hearing rumblings of a shooting from those around me. The game has been resumed though.
A big 20yd run by Cass Tech.
Sad and unfortunate reality of a night in Detroit
Campbell's pass to Webb is a floater and picked off by Brother Rice.
Game has stopped again.....
Game has resumed, this is a shaky situation. Now there are apparently cops chasing people around the concourse.
Ok...I see Shane is there, he needs to take his butt home.
id love to hear your reasoning why the de la salle qb shouldn't be watching rice play the team that beat him in the playoffs. if you say the game location you're an idiot but please, elucidate.
Maybe you didn't here but the game was delayed twice because of problems with crowd behavior (suspected? gun shots) with one time the players and coaches on the field being instructed to lay on the ground. IMHO probably not the best place to be hanging out.
Cass Tech forces a punt,
Ball on the CT 1. Dangerous situation.
You just make sure your ass stays safe, okay?
They need to abandon the game if there was a shooting with suspects loose in the venue...
3rd and 1 and Cass Tech converts.
Campbell's pass on 3rd and short is incomplete, Cass Tech will punt.
Now we see the fireworks from Comerica Park. Ooooooo ahhhhhhh.
OT here, but the Tigers did win tonight.
Now back to football...
Roughing the passer gives Brother Rice the 1st down.
So far today I have watched 2 Michigan games from 2011 (glorious), 2 high school football games on ESPN, and I am intently following this thread of another high school football game. I think I can speak for us all when I say I'm ready for the season to be here already.
Personal foul for HURDLING on Brother Rice.
Hurdling? I've heard of penalties for leaping on a FG try, but never hurdling.
It was called a personal foul too.
Some of the crowd here at Adams Field has made an early exit. Maybe scared off by the altercation.
The score here after 3: #9 Cass Tech 12 #2 Brother Rice 12
Cass Tech will punt after a near INT by Campbell. Not his best night, but first game rust is expected. He is a sophomore, keep in mind.
TOUCHDOWN CASS TECH! LB Joe Journey returns a Brother Rice for a TD to take the lead!
Snapp's PAT is good and Cass Tech leads 19-12 in the 4th quarter.
Who made the hit? None other than Damon Webb. 2nd forced fumble of the night while Journey runs it in.
Dawson with a great play. Leading the charge for the Cass Tech DLine. LEAPING over the center.
Is staying safe. We have not only future recruits on the field and in the stands, but a couple of our current players are at this game
And god forbid we lose football players first and foremost.
To imply they were more important to keep safe. Just pointing out that we have players at the game. Notice I did say hope that "everyone" is safe
Cass Tech goes 3&out. Under 7 left to play in the game, and Cass leads 19-12.
Huge pass by BR. Ball on the 5yd line with under 5 minutes left. Cass leads 19-12. 1st and goal.
Brother Rice touchdown run.
Timeout Cass Tech......with 4 minutes left in the game.......on an XP.......what.
Not set and worried BR might go for two? Can you go for two in HS fball?
Yes. You can go for two in HS.
My guess would have been either 10 or 12 guys on the field.
Y U doubt Wilcher??
NO GOOD! NO GOOD! NO GOOD! FUMBLES THE SNAP!
19-18 Cass Tech!
Thanks for these updates Wolverine Devotee...sounds like an exciting game!
Cass Tech needs to just run the ball now with under 3 minutes left in the game.
They used Stone to great effect in the playoffs. Who is the rb now?
Combo of Keshawn Gilmore and Deon Drake.
TOUCHDOWN CASS TECH! That seals the deal! Gary Hosey on a huge 72yd run.
Unless they get the 2 point conversion, that doesn't seal anything quite yet. 2 would push it to 27-18. That would seal it.
Illinois scores a late TD to go up 8. One TV announcer realized the Illini RB could have ended the game by taking a knee past the sticks, the other TV announcer just couldn't wrap his head around it. (Not saying this is the same situation. It depends on timeouts, etc.) Even after a would-be TD pass from Brady to Terrell grazed off of Terrell's outstretched hands/fingers.
Cass Tech misses the XP, and suddenly this game is not over. Cass Tech leads 25-18.
or is he still in jail?
He's playing in Canada, right?
2 minutes left. Cass Tech needs a turnover or a stop here to win it.
PICKED OFF BY DAMON WEBB! A career night for Webb!
Wouldn't be a terrible strategy. Otherwise, Tech could have run out the clock.
Under 2 minutes left. Cass just running the ball. BR still has their timeouts and has just used one.
First down Cass Tech, and that will do it here at Adams Field at Wayne State in the Prep Kickoff Classic. Cass Tech will just take a knee the next play and they will beat their 3rd catholic league team in the past 4 games they have played dating back to last season.
FINAL SCORE: #9 Cass Tech 25 #2 Brother Rice 18!
Player of the game: Damon Webb
2 receptions for 100yds 2 TD Catches
Game winning INT, 2 FF, 1 Fumble Rec.
Mattison needs to start camping out at Cass Tech for Damon Webb....
My God, what a stat line against a perennial powerhouse. Good to see a DPL school having success against Rice.
Honestly it is not an ideal place to go during the night.
That's nothing. WSU is in Midtown. I've been to King and Denby for Cass Tech games and those schools are in East Side.
Just curious, but do you have any special connection to Cass Tech? I'm from the Catholic League so I was pulling for Rice a bit.
Good stuff WD. I was thoroughly entertained by that. I don't know if this was asked before or not, but do you cover HS football, or did you attend the game for personal reasons (ex. friend or family member playing, following current/potential UM recruits, or just knew that this was going to be a barn burner?)
I'm a Renaissance alum. I'm expecting for the Cass game to be a blowout.
This thread would have been a lot more interesting if WolverineDevotee caught a bullet in the leg.
I've been in that corner before. Not a fun place.
Luckily I know enough people and have a lot of friends in the CT community that "have my back".
Tonight on the CW50 at 6pm.
But this was a pretty damn cool thread to read through, even after the fact. Nice work WD.
