this may be of some local interest
Oh look, the most unoriginal, lazy, inane post that can be made! This must be the millionth time this year someone has come up with this hilarious, witty response! Bravo, Dave! I look forward to what other gems you can come up with! Perhaps something else that requires absolutely zero thought and intelligence? I hope so!
What more do you want? I don't think they win 9 games either. Did you want an analysis of each game and his theories on why they wouldn't win the remaining games? Get a life. I'm sure there are about 100 people who would have had the same response.
The only thing lazier than a single-word "no" post is telling someone to get a life! I don't even know what that means. "Get a life." You could use that insult for any occasion and it would still mean nothing. "I disagree with this guy, so I'm going to tell him to get a life. That will show him!"
I can't stop now, I have to ride this thing all the way to the end. Thanks for your suggestion, though. And might I suggest something to you in return: get a life. And stop arguing with strangers on the internet all day.
Someone has a case of the Mondays.
Well, if one asks a closed ended question like, "Is 9-4 possible?" then they really shouldn't have any expectation of receiving any thing other than a one word, yes-or-no response.
If you want to call some one out for being lazy then maybe start with the quality of the question posed.
Northwestern is worse than we are.
The bookies disagree. Look, I'm trying to be objective here. Who says they're "worse" than us?
Iowa is not too tall of a task if we adjust our offensive gameplan.
Yes, and marrying Kate Upton is not too tall a task if I adjust my ability to throw a 96-mph fastball.
Did anyone think 6-3 was possible after ND? No.
I know winning the next two games doesn't seem likely right now, but northwestern is really bad and just as down as we are. Iowa is playing well, but they are the kind of team we can beat. They don't blitz much and aren't flashy on offense. We CAN win the next two! And it would be huge in terms of recruiting to do so.
I'm pessimistic and thought 6-3 but b/c I was so sure that there would be a rash of serious injuries to Lewan and Gardener.
I was starting to feel like Jerry Maguire lol. We can do this and we will do this because it's vital to sustaining the program. We cannot afford a 6-6 or 7-5 season. This needs to get done.
And the Lions can still go on to win the Super Bowl this season, too. And it needs to get done. But realistically?
I thought I heard the coaches say they didn't think Nebraska blitzed that much before this game. If their D-coordinator is even remotely smart, he'll blitz to plow through our o-line and rattle DG. Iowa's offense - MSU is not flashy on offense either but they did enough to win against us. So whats your point?
Um, my point is that NW and Iowa are beatable teams. Thought I made that pretty clear.
Iowa =/= MSU. Don't really think that needs any further explanation. What is YOUR point?
what IS your point???
they were also "beaten," despite the fact that we played two of the worst games we've played in 20 years.
"we played two of the worst games we've played in 20 years."
=> damn, we managed to play two of the worst games in the past 20 years in a few week span? if this is true, Michigan's problem is far deeper than I thought...
you only need to go back 15. in 1998, notre dame and syracuse absolutely bombed the shit out of us...and we responded by reeling off eight straight from there...some of those wins were real ugly.
that team had a lousy offense and good defense, too, and a coaching staff that looked too conservative, especially when they lost. then in 1999, we went 10-2 and finished in the top ten with a senior quarterback that turned out to be pretty good, despite fans not being too fond of him the previous season.
We couldn't handle Jarius Jackson or Donovan McNabb. They were mobile QBs in spread offenses. That's where you heard the "we can't defend mobile QBs" and "we can't stop the spread" start up. That's why we lost, not because of conservative offense. They were also our first two games of the season after after we replaced our starting QB and Woodson, not to mention some other key players.
In each loss that year, including the OSU game, we gave up over 30 points. And those teams were ranked at the time. There was progress made throughout the season. We beat top 10 Wisconsin and Penn State in November. In fact we outscored them 54-10. That shows progress. Now we can't score against statistically poor defenses.
If those were the two worst games we've played in 20 years (the entire 2008 season disagrees, and a multitude of others), then what were the Akron and UConn games?
Means they're worse than us. Michigan would likely be favored by 1 on a neutral field and 4.5 at home.
But it's clearly not pessimism.
So sure. We could finish 9-4. I'll ignore Akron, UConn, PSU, MSU, Nebraska, historically bad rushing games, which includes rushing for roughly 230 yds against NU than Wyoming, an just say, sure - anything's possible. But that expectation can't be based on what we've seen 9 games in, is all.
Like the attitude. Thank you
Also possible that I'll run into Emma Stone at Blockbuster, we'll get married, have a kid named Fijsfg. I fully expect to lose the rest of our games and continue to rush for negative yards.
Obviously false. Blockbuster is no longer around.
You busted that lie RIGHT OPEN! Well done.
Lost in this news are about 50 remaining Blockbuster stores owned by franchisees that will remain open.
Alan Payne of Austin, Texas, owns 26 of them: 13 in Alaska and 13 along the Mexican border from El Paso to Brownsville.
Wow thanks. The more you know.
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE !!!!!!!!
I fucked a mermaid!
If I didn't think they could prevail I wouldn't keep going to the games.
Of course, it's possible they could win the next 3 and the bowl game. Changes need to happen in scheme/playcalling and players need to execute better.
Greg Mattison can keep doing what he's doing.
Those who stay...
Sometimes the difference between a mediocre team and a good team is quite small and correctable as the season progresses, but it's pretty damn late in the year to expect some kind of transformation. There are just a combination of things snowballing, and it's not just on the offense. Nebraska at home was the best shot of getting a win of the last games on the schedule, and we saw how that went.
This was going to be a tough game even when we thought we had a good team.
Considering Michigan has been to only three Rose Bowls as B1G champion since 1993 and won only one of them, maybe there needs to be some perspective about what this program has actually accomplished since the early 90s.
I don't think you can really extrapolate to the 90s. Going three times as B10 champs between '93 and '04 is pretty solid in the modern Big Ten era. It's just that since 2004 we've really, really stunk up the joint with one of the worst decades in Michgan history. Good thing I started my serious fandom in 2002.
...as the game I traveled to see Michigan play in this year. While I prefer the optimism of this thread more than the torch and pitchfork mob in the other threads, I do to see 9-4 happening.
Anything is possible. Truly.
Probable? Hell no, but I'm going to watch and find out. There's no hope, so there's nothing to lose if the outcome is as the odds decree. But...since the odds are, in fact, so far against it, if we do go 9-4 then it will have to have taken some sort of apotheosis of Gardner or Clark And if that happens it will be fun to see live.
whichever you're using is starting to cause drain bamage. Unless something truly miraculous happens between now and Saturday, this team is pretty much toast. I like optimism as much as the next guy, but in this case, realism makes much more sense.
Michigan has a very slim chance to beat Northwestern. There is very little chance of winning at Iowa. The OSU game is a forgone conclusion. It should be a beatdown of epic proportions. When Tressel was there he wouldn't run up the score, Urbs might try to score 70.
There is no evidence that anything with this team is improving. The Oline is a mess, the QB is constantly running for his life, the RBS can;t even get to the LOS. The secondary seems to be getting depleated and those still in there can't cover much. The best play of the game was Wile's 70-yard punt.
What if anything mentioned above gives you the idea that Michigan can win the next three games? It looks like 6-6 and a crappy bowl game. After that, cleaing house of a couple of assistants is mandatory.
"michigan has a very slim chance to beat northwestern. there is very little chance of winning at iowa." really? slim? very little? have you even seen those teams? they are both terrible football teams. we're pretty lousy right now, but the simple fact is that we have more talent than both. go ahead and bitch about coaching, but those two teams have at least as many holes as we do right now.
you know what gives me the idea that we can win the next two games? the fact that if we make...what three plays, total, against penn state and nebraska we're 8-1. argue that we didn't "deserve" to win those two, and i won't disagree, but we still had both of them won with even the tiniest of breaks.
Your last argument cuts both ways though. One or two plays, and we're looking at losses to Akron and UCONN. And if Jerry Kill doesn't have his seizure the day of the game, you could make the case that Minnesota probably beats us too..
So now we're 3-6 and probably not going to a bowl
...at some point the breaks cut the other way, which means we're probably right about where we deserve to be, record-wise. i'd also submit that 6-3 is right about where our talent level is, too, OC fiascoes notwithstanding.
OP Michiganman14 - I love your optimism! I vote YOU! for the imaginary inaugural INTERNATIONAL WORLD PEACE ALLIANCE! We can do this!
Forget it, man!!! Michiganman14 has finally snapped. Somebody call Nurse Ratched!!
I don't buy for a second that the coaches are 100% at fault with this tire fire.
No way. Northwestern might be the most winnable game left on the schedule. Iowa is basically MSU Lite and OSU will destroy us. No confidence in any bowl match up scenarios.
It's amazing how over the top people go after a few short weeks.
After the CMU and ND games it was a foregone conclusion that Gardner was going to leave early and be drafted in the first round. I bet most people around here thought there was not way in hell we would lose to PSU or MSU. Remember how bad MSU looked? Or Iowa for that matter? They looked like crap losing to Northern Illinois. Remember the Michigan - Minnesota game? Minny looked like they probably weren't going to make a bowl at that point.
Now, everything is horrible and this is the worst Michigan team in history. They have no shot, even against a team that is 0-5 in conference. Come on people... Anyone who thinks they've got this figured out is wrong. So stop being so matter of fact about us losing out (or winning out for that matter). Michigan is a fairly talented team who, at times, can do some good things. The defense is at least solid and sometimes that is enough to win some games. Those kids and coaches aren't giving up and conceding the next four games and neither will I.
I agree with you that we shouldn't feel defeated before the games are played. However, I do like to point out that there's a big difference between looking good/bad in the beginning of the season vs. later part of the season. Many here are alarmed by the lack of progression this team is making, which is in sharp contrast with MSU/Minny you mentioned.
And it's not "few short weeks", it's been two full months since the CMU/ND game....good enough sample size to predict the trajectory of the team (rightly or wrongly).
At times they can do some good things? Ya, I remember those times- one was Indiana, the other was way back against the Irishmen. I have no recollection of any other good things.
Michiagan has been regressing over the entire season while lots of other teams are improving. Michigan is regressing over the 3 year's of Hoke especially on offense and on both lines. You've gone beyond drinking the kool aid, you're mixing it brother.
Maybe M will luck out a win before 2014, but I doubt it.
I'm not so sure the coaching staff hasn't given up and I'm not convinced the kids have any faith left. After Hoke blaming the kids for 'poor exectution' all year, I think you're starting to see this team fracture apart. I'm guessing we'll pull one win out of our ass before the seasons comes to a merciful end, but it won't be the win we all want and need it to be.
This team is embarrassing. I would honestly be shocked if this team wins a game before next September. Our road record speaks for itself. We lost to a Penn State team that was paved over by. Ohio State. We were paved over in Lansing. Two years ago our best team in recent memory was beaten at Iowa. Northwestern and Iowa are much better than UCONN and we will lose. It's not even worth mentioning what the Buckeyes are going to do to this hapless group of circus clowns. It will be along the lines of aggravated rape.
Wow buddy, you certainly went for the triple threat on that post. The only thing I'm embarrassed about is that you post on the same blog as me.
You certainly have a low tolerance for language, don't you? If what I said really offends you, you're a really sensitive guy or girl. I suggest you pull your covers up tight tonight. There are some real bad people out there.
I am not that sensitive and I think it is offensive, but I attribute that to you just being a dick.
Ya? Well I say you're sensitive. I have extra tissue, sweetheart
It's not the language you use. It's the fact that you resort to name-calling when talking about student athletes that do nothing but work their asses off for the program. Have a little respect.
I'm on a roll! Next question!
We can win the next two, we can also lose the next two but I lean towards winning maybe, I think, possibly, I hope..... BUT please stop talking about the OSU beat down that we are likely going to face..... We are not going to win that game. I just don't want the players to be embarrassed by a lack of preparation (coaching) and awful play calling (coaching)
anything more will be gravy. NW and Iowa are playing better than Michigan. Michigan could play better all the sudden. Weird things happen.
You could make that argument for Iowa, but to say Northwestern an out and out lie.
We have the same roster that we had the second week of September. I think this staff has to know by now that these are must wins. Again....we are on the verge of losing recruits and freshman to transferring. They will prepare these kids enough to beat Northwestern.
Stop the senseless sky is falling talk. We are not a top 25 team....we are also NOT Eastern Michigan for crying out loud. Im as dissapointed as the next but let's not get carried away. The B1G is not an elite conference and ANY team in this conference is beatable. Even Ohio.....
I like your opinion, but you don't need to dismiss others' opinions.
BTW, I sure thought/expected that the coaching staff understood that the last two games were so-called "must win" games...if they didn't look at them that way, and if it took this long for them to reach that level of urgency, I'll be tremendously disappointed....
The sky is not falling, but I wouldn't boast that OSU is "beatable" until someone, hopefully us, will show that on the field.
We aren't Eastern Michigan. They have more rushing yards this season than we do!!!!
Im for whatever record gets Borges fired..9-4, 8-5 who gives a shit..
Sure, Nate: Fire Borges. Then someone else can come in and coach manball, but with better results.
The problem isn't the coordinator, it's Dave Brandon's manball directive. Why run against a team with 8 or 9 in the box? Because Dave Brandon said so and can fire anyone who doesn't do his bidding.
Football is evolving. I am betting that Borges would have no problem coaching a modern offense, but he will never be allowed to at the University of Michigan, even if Ohio beats them ten times in a row.
Auburn brought it one of the best modern offensive minds (Malzahn) and a new OL coach, etc. Dave Brandon and Hoke have consistently taken the position that such offenses lead to weaker defenses. The coaches that could bring us into modern era college football might also need a "map to Ann Arbor," another huge strike for Brandon. Probably better to simply watch Auburn football if you want to see offensive competency. Watching the Brandon/Hoke/Borges/Funk/Wellman ensemble put together an offense is kind of like watching your relatives in an awful community theatre play. It's painful, they apparently don't realize how bad they are, and there are much better forms of entertainment out there, but because of familial ties, this is how you will be spending your Saturday. Our Town for the win.
The blueprint on how to beat this team is out and everyone is using it with great success. Pressure/blitz all game long and Michigan can't move the ball. 9-4 is unattainable, 8-5 looks like a climb up Mount Everest and 7-6 is staring them in face hard if they don't get their act together this Saturday. I'm an optimist and looking at how bad this team is, Ohio State is going to have a field day on this O-Line unless by some miracle for that one game the stars align and being in "The Game" is enough to put up an effort know one sees coming. This isn't a sinking ship season but it sure doesn't inspire a fan base when you can't even rush for positive yards against one of the worst statistical defenses in college football. I think this team can be good in 2014 if the changes are made at OC, RB, and OL position coaches.
9-4 is possible. So are aliens visiting from outer space.
Maybe these two possibilities will intersect, and the aliens visiting from outer space will either (a) create a giant wormhole and send our remaining opponents to Mars, or (b) give our team Flubber cleats, thus enabling them to perform miraculous feats. With their feets.
6-6 is more likely.
There are here now. They are called Reptillians.
The talent is there, and I think with a better, more "modern" offense you could turn things around next year for sure. tOSU might be a little vulnerable replacing a QB, WR and 4 O-Linemen. Beyond that I'm guessing the window closes for you pretty quickly.
Isn't Miller a junior? Or is there chatter of him heading to the draft?
The answer to both of the OP's questions is no. For the first we are going 6-7. For the second football is a season to season thing.
You're never as bad as you think you are after a loss or as good as you think after a win.
Sagarin has Northwestern about even with us and Iowa 5 points better. They're winnable games. The 9-4 is probably our realistic ceiling. The bowl is a real wild card.
Using Massey's projections, the projected probability of 3-0 (bowls aside for the moment) is approximately 1.84%, and indeed, the probability of winning the next two would currently stand at 10.80%. It's definitely possible, but the major predictive models would say that it isn't every likely. The same might be true of projected bowl opponents - we've been tracking the predictions here as well, and I think the highest probability we've had in a head-to-head simulations was about 40% or so. Again, possible but perhaps not exceedingly probable.
That being said, though we might be projected underdogs the remainder of the way, the next two games do not come with unmanageable point margin projections attached. If we're going to win a couple more, the next two games are the best opportunity. If we do that, the projections for Ohio State definitely change and the gap - which would make us an estimated 2 TD underdog right now - will narrow. Again, possible.
We have the talent but I think with Al calling the plays there is no way we win on the road vs NW or Iowa...and Ohio? Please, that is the game I feel most upbeat about because they will have all the pressure to kill us and get to a mnc game and we will have nothing to lose. I see us hanging with them for one and a half quarters, maybe two, until they adjust and ... Shocker! We don't.
It's not pessimism. it's called being a realist.
Until we prove that we're not horrible on the road under this regime, there is no way we compete for a B1G championship with a schedule like 2014's.
2015 is a realistic expectation. Hoke's first full recruiting class will be true seniors by then, and we get MSU and OSU at home.
We won't win another game this season.
Absolutely. If the team from the first two weeks plays, they can beat every team on their schedule.
I think they haven't recovered psychologically from that akron scare yet. That brought them crashing back to Earth from the highest of highs since 2011.
Yes that team from the first two weeks which played a MAC school and an overrated ND team.
The same overrated ND team that actually was competitive against MSU? A team from the same MAC that Akron is in? I'd gladly take the team from weeks 1 and 2 versus whatever the hell it is that exists currently. At least that team had some semblance of confidence.
How about we agree that we would love a team coached by a drunk MSC the rest of the season
If we didn't have such a glaring weakness at the oline/run game is say anything is possible. The recipe to beat us is so easy. Even the worst teams figured that out. I do follow u though. Winning two of these last three games is really no different than it would have been losing the three close games to Akron, uconn, and Indiana. Winners find a way to win. It may sound like silly coach speak but look at msu last year. Look at how many close games they lost. That's all I heard from their fans..."we were 7 points away from winning 5 more games". Or something to that extent. I tell u what...the next two years will define our team and our coaching staff. Find a way brady. Find a way. You have the talent...there's no reason we shouldn't be able to become an elite program.
No and Yes
Apparently someone hasn't heard about Dave Brandon's negotiations with a global corporation to rename the entire university - the sbarro school fighting cinnabons.
At least that is what Ace Williams tweetrd
Read the transcript of Hoke's press conference on the front page - it's like this coaching staff refuses to acknowledge what's wrong with the gameplan. Until they recognize their shortcomings and do something to actually attempt to fix them, this team isn't going anywhere or beating anybody.
Northwestern? Sure, they're 0-5, but I guarantee you Fitzgerald smells blood in the water with this program.
Iowa? They have a very good front 7, so hello another negative rushing performance.
OSU? Haha, no chance.
Bowl game? Depends against who, but with the Big Ten being bad overall, we'll get bumped up a spot or two above where we should be and will likely draw a team better than us. Plus, they'll get a month to prepare their defense to sit with 9 in the box because it's obvious we refuse to take advantage of defenses cheating against certain formations.
7-5 at best. With or without Borges and his epic fail play calling.
Go home, Mary Sue
I typed a rant for no reason. Your comment nailed it. LOL
That depends, are you on crack?
"Michigan will always be Michigan". That is true, problem is we are not the Michiganof Bo's era or even from the 1990s and early 2000s. When I was growing up and going to school, fielding great teams and dominating the Big Ten was a given. With the benefit of hindsight I see how special that era was. Michigan hasn't won the big ten in a decade. Lost 5/6 to sparty and 9/10 to Ohio. We are Tennessee or ND, a once great program holding on to the past, except ND actually went to the title game last year. Football has changed, and is more competitive than ever. I see no signs that Michigan can be a consistently great program like in the past other than some recruiting success. Problem is, other teams have put up great recruiting (according to rankings only) for years with poor teams to show for it.
We need transformational coaches. Rrod failed. Borges is a disaster and I am losing faith in Hoke fast. He is not transformational, but I thought he could be successful as a recruiter amd motivator with the right coordinators.
I'll save the optimism for when we FIRE FUNK AMD BORGES and Fred Jackson retires.
Brady has to do a better job coaching them!
We still have 3 games left. We could possibly win 2 of the 3. More importantly we have Ohio coming in. I do not want to be in the stadium like I was in 2009 with 60% Ohio fans and a half empty student section. This is our senior day. Don't give up your seats. Come out and thank the seniors for 4 years of dedication to the school and program in what was really trying times for most of them. Go Blue!
Not interested in paying hundreds $ to watch M get curbstomped by Ohio, thanks though. I did stay in the stadium for all of Braylonfest, and went to the Fandom Endurance II Northwestern game that Brian wrote about. Michigan is terrible, and borderline unwatchable on offense (see defense, RichRod). The sooner everyone accepts that, the sooner we might be able to hire a competent OC and OLine coach.
Is not about bitching at the coaching staff or remembering losses from years past. It is about recognizing the commitment and the dedication of a group of young men who stayed through all the turmoil and represented the University with class. I am not happy about the way the team has played this year, but for one game the focus should be on the seniors. Thank you seniors.
Have a good time. Tailgating with MSC should help.
A lot of those kids will be gone. Same thing happened in 1995. I thought I was in Columbus with all the red in the stadium. I think a lot of the non-student season ticket holders and family of the players will be there. But when those truck drivers from Columbus show up willing to spend hundreds on tix, some folks will part with their them.
Calling them Ohio really annoys their fans, and Sparty fans for some reason. It's all we have.
Sad but true.
We are Notre Dame. Hanging onto Bo and a 97. Good lord.
Yup. My belief in M footba was strong enough to deny it for a long time but it is true. Even ND went to a title game last year though. And they beat their rivals occasionally.
2014: too many road games, lose the only 2 OLs that are any good. clearly this line needs at least 2 years so looks like it'll be...
2015: eh, breaking in a new starter @ QB, losing the LBing corps... maybe it'll be,..,
2016: ooof, MSU and OSU on the road again... how about...
2017: welp, Morris is out of eligibility at this point...
2018: [looks at the 2014 recruiting class shaping up..] eh only 15-18 guys some of whom will be gone by 2018 due to attrition, let's try...
I think we might get to the B10 title game sometime around the time cold fusion becomes sustainable.
the 2021 class looks very good at this point.
The truth in this made me laugh
In 2016, we'll have Morris handing off to our thunder and lightning (Derrick Green and Damien Harris) and throwing to our big matchup nightmares (Drake Harris and George Campbell). And when they're done scoring points, Peppers and hopefully Hand will be stopping opposing offenses.
To be honest, the only reason I want Hoke around is so we don't lose these recruits that are still committed to us. Since Borges doesn't do much on the recruiting front, we should be able to replace him as long as we get a good OC that can sell his offense to kids.
"This is Michigan and will always be Michigan."
We all need to think about what that means nowadays. We have had one season above mediocrity since 2006. We have had one undefeated season in what, 25 years now? And that was the first one since 1948 (with no ties)! I am coming to terms with the fact that we are a mediocre program. We have been for years. We are nowhere near Ohio State any longer. They beat us for years before Meyer, and Meyer now has their program miles above where Hoke has ours. OSU has surpassed us and is not looking back. The reasons don't matter. Its time to start facing the music - we are a middle-range Big Ten program. We should start hoping for middle-range performance, and then anything above that is gravy. That's where my fandom is moving. Its time to face reality. And I hope I am very, very wrong.
"They cheat us for years before Meyer..."
Clarrett, Troy, Terrell and St. Tress agree!
(yes I know it does nothing about the current state of the program, couldn't resist)
Agreed. This is why I have little patience for running plays over and over that dont work or holding on to coaches that arent effective. I think the establishment acts like they are preserving aomething special, but really they're just staying mediocre.
I also hope you are wrong.
It's going to be hard to win a game against anyone when the entire world knows you can't run the ball. It will be even harder when we're on the road and then back at home against a team that hasn't lost since we beat them two years ago. Could we do it? Yes anythings possible. At this point if be happy if we split the road games and have Ohio all they can handle. A win would be amazing.
What have you seen so far this year that makes you believe we will an adjustment? Nebraska's defense was as bad as anyone in the B1G and we made them look good. We will do this with any team, no matter how bad they are.
As long as Borges keeps calling games like he has, we won't beat anyone. Everyone and their mother knows that we can't run the ball, but Borges will keep insisting that we can and will have no problems running into a stacked box.
Unless there are some major star alingments, injuries, etc. Urban has that program humming beautifully and they are in excellent shape; we've got RR recruiting issues, playcalling issues, and look sluggish and confused.
I am hoping the last four games serve as a real platform for next season, getting a W at Northwestern is the key. We need some confidence, it is hard to be aggressive when you don't know what you are doing (coaching or playing). Playing Ohio State tough and winning a bowl game would help tremendously.
I think that has to be the fan's measure of success right now (since our old measures got thrown down the toilet the last two weeks). Personally, if they went 9-4, which likely implies a bowl win in a not God awful bowl, I would be ecstatic with how the season ended post the Nebraska debacle (unless we lose by 40+ or more to OSU).
For the team, I am hoping they are still diluting themselves into thinking about winning everyone, however, unlikely that may be.
Either this team rallies, the coaches finally coach to the realities of this team, and the seniors keep their last season from sinking into the toilet, or we will finish 0-3. Pretty clear. I will be at the game cheering for the former and fearing the latter.
Let us assume that we beat NW and Iowa and lose to OSU. That puts us at 4-4 in the conference and most likely 5th place in the standings order. We travel well and bowls will pick us over other teams in conference if there are ties. This means we will most likely be matched up against a the 5-7th SEC team. So a possible bowl matchup could be a LSU, Georgia, Texas A&M. If we are so bad that were talking about grinding victories against NW & Iowa, what are the odds of a victory against a good SEC team? I would say zero.
here in Columbus they are giddy over the struggles that Michigan is having. The sports talk radio is talking about how Mchigan's recruiting prowess will stop if we don't win big games, go to good bowl games, and if Hoke doesn't develop talent. They see nothing on the field that makes them believe that we will be better next year. Hard to disagree. They also think that Hoke will be coaching for his job next year when The Game is played. Oh, and they were nice enough to remind everyone that The Game will be in Columbus next year, with a senior quarterback in Miller. I shudder at the thought of another 3 game losing streak to these assholes.
Are you still drunk from Saturday/Sunday? Wow.
Honestly, it's hard to say. I thought we were going to demolish Nebraska. I was obviously wrong there, and we may just be broken beyond repair for this season. Who knows, I'm just going to watch and cheer for Michigan.
Time to face the facts my fellow fans. Michigan is no longer an elite program or even a good one. We've had 3 good seasons in the past 10 years; 2004, 2006 and 2011. We've barely sniffed the NC and the one time we did our nemesis stopped us cold.
Worst 2 games in a decade? Must have missed the Akron and UConn games just from this season. Must have missed almost every OSU game in the past decade. Must have missed 2008 or how about the Appy ST/Oregon back to back disasters of 2007. Fact is in the past decade we've had more disasterous games than great ones. Even the best game in recent memory was a loss, OSU game in 2006.
This program is in a hot mess of being rebuilt. I think the question is are we heading in the right direction? Until this season the vast majority of us trusted whole-heartedly in Hoke and had some semblance of hoping Borges would prove us wrong. Now the vast majority want Borges kicked to the curb yesterday and Funk along with him and many are voicing misgivings in Hoke and perhaps even the direction of the team. I still have a hope that Hoke's vision is the way to go but man is it getting hard. I was a big supporter of RR and going through this again is not something I look forward too.
To answer the question, can Michigan finish 9-3? Not unless we can bring back our former NFL players. Any DC with a brain will be blitzing the snot out of us the rest of the year. OSU has to be salivating right now knowing how to beat us. NW may not be good, but they still have a scary spread offense. With our horrific offense it'll leave our defense in a lot of bad spots. Our recent history at Kinnick says we will not have a good or easy day there as well and OSU, it'll be an ugly day for Wolverine fans. Fact is our offense has nothing; no OL that can block outside maybe Lewan and he's a head case now, our QB is banged up and running for his life, our RB's can't run or block, our WR's can't get open or the play is dead before they can get 10 yards and our play calling is horrific on a good day. Our defense and ST's would be ok if our offense could do anything but like 2008 they're being put in some bad spots and are suffering the consequences. Fact is we'll be lucky to make the BWW Bowl and more than likely will get crushed to finish the seaosn at 6-7.
I've not felt this pessimistic since the back to back disasters of 2007-2008. Wanna help the settle down the fanbase Hoke? Fire Borges immediately.
Go home OP, you're drunk
9-4 is possible since NW and Iowa are basically toss up games and you never know what you are goingto get from 2 teams in a bowl game after 30 days off. The problem is that simply winning doesnt really gain any momentum. Clearly ending up 7-6 wouldn't help recruiting, but they seem to be doing ok on that front. More importantly they need to get some momentum from the offensive line. I think if you can get a few games where the young interior plays better and can get some confidence that the is more important than just winning in regards to next year. If you beat Iowa 6-3 and the o-line gets run over again, how does that help build momentum? It just shows you can beat other average teams. The only win that could build momentum would be OSU. That game with some big recruits for 2015 in attendance could have lasting effects.
After last year's Nebraska game, when Denard went out and Bellomy was clearly not ready, I posted that Hoke (and Borges) were not so good at their jobs, and the negbomb blew me into "never create content again" land.
Now that it is apparent that a kid with 3 years of video game experience would be an upgrade over Borges......and Hoke is talking about the players not executing? that he liked the offensive calls?
And for all the talk about Hoke being such a great recruiter, this is Year 3. About the only impact player he recruited is Funchess (maybe Ryan?).......
Time to roll out the RichRod metrics. Even RichRod's teams improved each year.
Now, a team with a losing record on the road has to win a game on the road to salvage a winning season......and when OSU runs it up, 1968 style, we will again be in the market for a new coach.
Prepare to deal with : 7-5 in Year 3 with embarrassments at the hands of MSU & OSU, with the talent we have, and with 3 of the wins being Central, Akron and UConn
We have already established that is unacceptable.
Worst case scenario from this point, this team should finish 10-3.
