The 7th athlete in the MGoUsers Poll is...
Braylon Edwards
Edwards played for the football team from 2001 to 2004. During his senior season in 2004, he set Michigan season records for receptions (97) and receiving yards (1,330), and career records with 252 receptions, 3,541 yards, and 39 touchdowns, a Big Ten record. Edwards also set the Michigan career record for the most games with 100 or more receiving yards (17).
Edwards is the only wide receiver in Big Ten history and the third in NCAA history to gain 1,000 or more receiving yards in three consecutive years. Following his senior season, he won the Fred Biletnikoff Award given to the nation's top receiver, was awarded the Chicago Tribune Silver Football as the Big Ten's most valuable player, and was recognized as a unanimous first-team All American.
Edwards was drafted 3rd overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2005 NFL draft.

Ehhhhh this is the point where this poll has come unredeemably off the rails. Love Braylon but he's ahead of an All American in there sports? Ugh.

Braylon was not only an All American, he was the best player at his position in the country. That's a huge deal, especially for a position like WR that has 2-3 starters per team. I know he has rubbed some fans the wrong way since, but let's not forget how dominant he was on the field.
August 27th, 2016 at 12:05 PM ^
Plus he was drafted third overall at a position that rarely sees top 5 draft picks. I think his professional career is what is causing stirs.
August 26th, 2016 at 11:51 PM ^
Better than Glen Rice? And I love Braylon.
August 27th, 2016 at 9:35 AM ^
That was my first thought.
August 27th, 2016 at 10:00 AM ^
and Tom Brady?
August 27th, 2016 at 10:53 AM ^
Definitely better than Tom AT Michigan. Definitely NOT better after.
August 27th, 2016 at 12:41 PM ^
Exactly. If you're judging this entirely as a "Michigan" athlete, Braylon had the better Michigan career as far as production goes. If you were to take each player's college careers and judge which one should have been the more successful professional athlete, it would be uncommon to think that Brady would be more successful in the NFL.
Obviously that wasn't the case, but to me both players professional careers are somewhat shocking. Braylon could have been Calvin Johnson before Calvin Johnson if only for his hands, and without Tom Brady's Harbaughness and competitive motor one would think he should have been closer to Orlovsky than the best QB of all time. Football and athletes are weird sometimes.

See there is no picture this time. Didn't want mix up Braylon with Funchess

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Nice work millennials....you actually Braylon fucking Edwards is a better Michigan athlete than Bennie Oosterbaan, Ron Kramer, Rickey Leach, Glenn Rice, Chris Weber and Cazzie Russell.
Ha, ha,ha,ha ha,ha.

SHAME ON YOU KIDS FOR BEING YOUNG
August 27th, 2016 at 5:46 AM ^
Not at all. Shame on you kids for being ignorant of your Michigan athletic historical achievements. On a poll claiming to list the 25 greatest Michigan athletes of all time (that's what it was) there is no WAY Braylon Edwards belongs in the top 10. No way in Hell which is why others also think it's nuts he's this high.
Shame on you for that.
August 27th, 2016 at 12:26 PM ^
It is a fact that football players right now are more ATHLETIC than a guy who played sports for Michigan in the 1930s/40s/50s/60s/70s/80s. Braylon was a great athlete for Michigan. A great wide receiver here. Quit bitching about the order, quit crying that not everyone knew it was all athletes instead of just football. Fucking enjoy your free content and reflect on a different great Michigan athlete each day.
My god, you are insufferable.
August 27th, 2016 at 1:10 AM ^
I'm not sure what makes those guys such far superior Michigan athletes than Edwards other than the majority of them are from your generation. I think your understimating Edward's accomplishments.

Didn't Oosterbaan play in the 20's? So if you were a kid when you watched him that would make you, what, 95? 100?
August 27th, 2016 at 8:32 AM ^
No that's the crazy thing. I actually believe you can vote for players you didn't actually see play yourself.
August 26th, 2016 at 11:59 PM ^
Braylon should make the top 25 but isn't a top 10 player.
August 27th, 2016 at 12:03 AM ^
Shit, I'd vote Derrick Alexander over Braylon if we're talking #1's. Not sure Braylon is Top 25, given his tendency to make the hard things look easy, the easy things look hard, the "look at me" attitude that got him "on the wrong page" with Coach Carr for pretty much two entire seasons...
August 27th, 2016 at 9:25 AM ^
Braylon absolutely ripped out the hearts of every Sparty fan. Forever epic.
August 26th, 2016 at 11:59 PM ^
Look at the voters, dropping the ball on the easy ones...
August 27th, 2016 at 12:10 AM ^
...but the order is totally fucked.
August 27th, 2016 at 12:17 AM ^
There is some recency bias, but I don't hate this. Braylon is most likely our second best WR in school history, behind only a guy who won the Heisman.
August 27th, 2016 at 12:19 AM ^
Anthony Carter never won a Heisman. So...
August 27th, 2016 at 12:27 AM ^
Yeah, it's certainly arguable that AC was better than Braylon, but I was of course referring to Desmond. All I'm saying is Braylon holds many receiving records at Michigan and was a Belitnikoff winner. That's a huge deal so I'm curious why people are so critical of this.
August 27th, 2016 at 12:31 AM ^
Yes, I know. And I'm pointing out that Desmond is and always will be second to AC. Braylon isn't even in the discussion.
3-time All-American. Finished top-10 in the Heisman voting 3 times. Team MVP twice. Conference MVP. Won a Rose Bowl. Held pretty much every record for two decades, despite playing in an offense that was maybe half as pass-happy as it would be by the 90s-00s.
Best WR in the history of Michigan Football. Period.
August 27th, 2016 at 12:45 AM ^
Anthony Carter never made the bizarre drops that Braylon did. There was rarely any pass he couldn't come down with.
I love Braylon but he is no AC.

The Brabbs kick almost never happened because of Braylon dropping an easy ball that got called a fumble. Or the OSU game in 2004, 3rd down on a comeback drive, Braylon's hands turn into paddles. He did that shit all the time.
August 27th, 2016 at 12:54 AM ^
The 2004 Rose Bowl against USC. Navarre threw a perfect bomb to him, right into his hands, and he drops it like a bar of soap. Would have gone up 7-0 in the first quarter.

And, was it that game that the ball just delicately caromed off his back heel straight into the DB's hands to set up an easy USC TD?
August 27th, 2016 at 9:11 AM ^
Yes. That happened in the second half. But as maddening as it was, it was also the least surprising. USC has been gifted that kind of luck many, many times over the decades in the Rose Bowl. There is no shock left anymore.
August 27th, 2016 at 7:03 AM ^
Ugh. That play is burned in my brain.
August 27th, 2016 at 12:48 AM ^
I'm really not debating you on that, just saying that Braylon is very good. I have to assume both AC and Desmond will be ahead of Braylon on this poll so I'm not sure what you're upset about exactly.

This poll needs a re-do
August 27th, 2016 at 12:26 AM ^
The guy's got more receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns than anyone else in Michigan history. He's also first or second in the single-game record books for all three categories. He might not be the sentimental favorite but he was more productive at Michigan than most of the guys below him on the list. Take into account some level of recency bias (athletes are objectively better now than they were 50 years ago) and football bias (one could make the case that Romero is ranked wayyy too low) and this ranking is pretty reasonable.
August 27th, 2016 at 12:33 AM ^
I wonder if people who voted for Romero know who Jennie Ritter was.
August 27th, 2016 at 1:05 AM ^
Kind of different. Hitters have the sexy stats that pop out.
Although Ritter held many records before Jordan Taylor broke them later on.
She's definitely the best pitcher we've ever had.

Also see: Hardware. Because she won some.
August 27th, 2016 at 7:45 AM ^
So you agree with the blathering idiot sports talk jocks who were trying to make a case that Eli Manning was better than Peyton because he had more SB wins?
August 27th, 2016 at 10:23 AM ^
Ritter is obviously the best pitcher Michigan ever had. But Romero's not all time just because she hit the ball well. She obliterated almost every offensive record we have. Not to mention the NCAA records she owns or is in the top 5 of. The girl created her own offensive club (300 hits, 300 runs, 300 RBIs), a club she's going to be pretty damn lonely in for quite a while.
Jennie Ritter was great. There's no denying that. And she did win a National Championship. But that's a team accomplishment (albeit one that Ritter certainly contributed to). Based purely on stats, Romero's easily the greatest softball player to ever play for Michigan.
August 27th, 2016 at 11:15 AM ^
if we're being totally honest, I got really into softball about two years ago, so while I know who Ritter was, it's hard for me to compare her Romo, whom I've seen dominate the game consistently for the past two years.
August 27th, 2016 at 12:44 AM ^
Certainly debatale, but it's not like the poll put him above Howard or Carter.

Gold Medal. No-hitter. Went straight from college ball to the MLB without playing a game in the minors. And that was after he won the Sullivan Award and pretty much everything else you could win as a college baseball player.
But, nope.
