66 Michigan student-athletes earn Distinguished Scholar recognition (U-M Record)

Submitted by Kewaga. on

Well it seems last year was a fine year for Michigan Athletics both on AND off the field.

While on the field, Michigan came in 3rd nationally for the Directors Cup...  Off the field, they excelled in the class room as well with 66 Michigan athletes earning recognition as a B1G Distinguished Scholar.   The award is giving to those athletes who earn a 3.7 GPA or higher in their course work over the previous year, with eight logging a perfect 4.0.

The 66 Distinguished Scholars are the most in school history and the first time topping 60 individuals since the honor started in 2009.

It's the sixth straight year U-M has increased its total with 57 in '15, 55 in '14, 53 in '13, 49 in '12 and 37 in 2011.

Congratulations to these fine athlete-scholars!!

As any of you who have attended Michigan know, obtaining a 3.7 is an excellent accomplishment in itself but add to that the rigors of training and participating in their sport and these individuals are truely representative of Michigan's Student-Athlete ideal:

Leaders and Best, both on and off the field.

Of the 66 one was a football player. If you want to thank life coaches in the athletic department look to Greg Harden and Bitsy Ritt. (I'll admit the football player impresses me ... Michael Jocz had at least a 3.7 in Mech Engin. I might have had 2 terms with a 3.0 in ME. over 4 yrs.)

Congratulations to all the Distinguished Scholars!  I'm impressed by anyone making a 3.7 or higher at Michigan, let alone athletes (and others) who have extensive demands on their time outside their academic studies.
