6 Years Ago Today, Bo left us

Bo left us 6 years ago today. Hard to believe it has been that long. 

I'm sure he is proud of what he saw today and loves the job Brady is doing. Restoring the Michigan defense and transitioning the offense back to what Bo once ran. 

Hope he enjoyed the game today next to Fielding Yost, Friz Crisler, Bob Ufer and other great Michigan Men in "football's valhalla" as Ufe once put. Hopefully he can watch another Michigan victory next week as well and have bragging rights with woody. 

Thanks Bo, for all that you did in your time with us.

We beat that damn 11-0 Ohio team we were supposed to beat the day after he passed. 

Just re-read his "Lasting Lessons" book with Bacon.  Can almost hear his voice in that book.

I have no doubt Bo would be extremely proud of this team and these coaches. They embody everything that he wanted a Michigan team to be. I can't believe it has been 6 years, RIP Bo.

Honestly, Bo's passing hit me about as hard as any I've ever felt.  My dad passed from kidney failure two years before Bo, and I can say I felt about the same for each.  My dad wasn't in my life growing up very much, so I think Bo was a pseudo father figure for me, one I never met, but always admired from afar.  RIP Bo.

He was such a hard nosed guy.  I'm not sure you can get away with his style today of being so unapolagetic and stern...then again Saban is that way too.  But, his strong will was amazing.  I sitll love hearing and reading stories about him.  He will always be remembered fondly.  He was the first coach I knew of so he will always be kind of the father of Michigan football in me and for folks in their 30's.

I just watched some of Les Miles' presser from today, and if he isn't channeling Bo, even just a little bit, then I must be crazy. He sounded just like Bo.

How fitting his last speech to the team in 06 was about Tom Slade, Michigan Man, whose funeral Bo had just been to... Bo told them, per press reports, "If you work hard, hang together, listen to the coaches, one day that might be as good a Michigan Man like Tom Slade."

My grandmother died same day,1 year earlier. She wasn't a big M fan, but was very proud I went there. Odd how life has certain symmetries.

Kathy had me cancel one of his accounts at the colorant I worked for. She was great and told me about taking a social science class with him. He was a huge republican and she said this fired up the class. She said he always won the disagreements in the end and laughed. What an awesome man!

I was actually listening to the radio in my car when I heard that he had died. Indeed, it was 1270 AM (now also 97.1 FM in Detroit) and I was driving back to my office in Belleville from a meeting in Detroit when the news broke that he had passed away at Providence Hospital in Southfield. It hit me hard enough that I literally pulled off I-94 westbound at Oakwood Blvd, parked in the nearest open lot (Dearborn Public Library, that day) and just listened to the news and tributes for about an hour. That was a very sad day indeed. 

Rest in peace, coach.

and this great program. His time to join the legends before him had come. Sadly before the biggest game of the Ohio St Michigan rivalry. The result was a game for the ages as #1 Ohio State and #2 Michigan battled hard head to head but in the end the Wolverines fell to the Buckeyes 42-39 and the B10 title went to OSU. It was a dark day and a day of sadness in Columbus as Carr and his defeated Wolverines left for home. 6 years ago.

6 years later Bo's memory still and forever lives on inside every Michigan fan player and student. His spirit never leaves us. This time it's Ohio St who is undefeated and Michigan is 8-3 now looking to end the season with sweeps over their two biggest rivals in MSU and OSU.

12 years ago the Wolverines beat Ohio St on the road in 2000 38-26. It is the last time OSU has lost to Michigan at home. It's time to end that. It's time for Michigan to end Ohio St's undefeated season. It's Michigan's time.

I was flying in from CA for The Game and when the plane landed I turned on my phone and it just started buzzing out of control with the news.  An awful start to a surreal weekend if there ever was one.

I'll always remember the day Bo died because one of my female co-workers who knew I was a big Michigan fan came running into my office saying that Michigan's coach had died.  I was horrified and couldn't believe Coach Carr dropped dead right in the middle of the season.  After frantically looking around the internet I realized it was Bo, not Lloyd that had passed.

As demonstrated by these posts, Bo has not left us and never will.  When he's not the 12th man on the field (you don't think Roundtree caught that ball in the NW game on his own, do you?) he's sharing Fritz Crisler's seat on the 50.

I remember riding in the truck with my dad to take a deer to the taxadermist in Addison, MI.  Clear as day I remember listening to his radio show that morning.  And dad and I talked about Bo and Michigan football and the big game that was the next day.  When we got home we saw on TV that he had died.  It was so strange because I had heard him on the radio not 2 hours before that and now they were saying he was dead.  I remember thinking about just how quickly and suddenly the Lord can call a man home.  Maybe it was his time, maybe it wasn't, but I'll be damned if he is ever forgotten. We miss you, Bo. I hope he is enjoying the resurrection of Michigan Football just as much as we all are down here. RIP and Go Blue

I was on driving through Perrysburg, OH on my way to Columbus for The Game when I heard the news break.  It was a depressing couple of hours after that.

On a positive note, the Ohio fans toned down the douchebaggery quite a bit the next day out of respect for Bo.
