"Which brings me to my next point kids, don't smoke crack"
5 Reasons Not to Worry
sage advice from a man currently accused of 3rd degree rape.
He has willingly donated his sanity to others. It's a lifestyle choice.
Your glass is half full.
Isn't that good though? Michigan needs more people with their "glass half full".
I've convinced myself that Michigan is going to win a national championship every August since I was 5 but...
#1 Denard hasn't shown it in a game yet.
#2 Roundtree had exactly 2 catches in the first 8 games. Are we 100% sure that he won't be deployed as the cold-weather Odoms again in 2010?
#3 Losing Brandon Graham does not a brick wall make.
#4 The fourth reason not to worry is our secondary sucks?
#5 The fifth reason is "Our helmets got wings?"
What the OP was trying to get across was we won 5 games with a secondary that sucked. It can't get any worse (this would go for LB play as well) so we should be better.
are you? It can ALWAYS get worse.
That said, I don't expect it to, so Im looking forward to a good year. C'mon, lets have a little of that 2006 defense.
Are there any of those left. Two years and not a single win on TV unless you live out of the blackout zone. Luckily Michigan doesn't have an inept owner who is more concerned with loyalty than results i.e. see Matt Millen's extension.
At least we're not Cleveland!
....is going to 18 games, don't you? Because, that's what it would take to do worse than 0-16. (Unless they went 0-16. Twice).
And you're right, the Lions are just the team to do it.
Were you and the OP the guys yelling for Rodriguez to put in Coner in '08 (for his qb rather than rap game skills)?
but Denard dials faster.
Denard dials faster, but less accurately. Often calling someone from the opposing teams secondary. Tate dials slower but dials those long distance calls with great touch.
As a nervous nellie myself, I deserved this chastising. Yay optimism!
You deserve chastising?! I KNOW I didn't just hear you say that, worm. You deserve NOTHING, neither pleasure nor pain, and should you receive either, it is only because I, in my grace, have swallowed my pride and forced myself to look upon your weak, quivering flesh and grant you a gift. You will thank me!
Now, you will kneel, wretch, and lick the dust from my boot. If I find it perfectly clean, afterwards, perhaps I will feel more gracious still, and crush you where I know you like it.
Or perhaps not. You disgust me, coward.
This thread just went from enthusiastic to awkward. Like, fast.
What's the matter? Do I know you better than you know yourself? Black leather? Whips and Chains? Lordy, is it getting hot in here?
Come with me, sweetheart, to my toy chest. If you're good, I'll let you pick out which flog I use for you.
Always appreciate the alliteration.
always appreciate AN alliteration
Optimism is great ,but only when it is based on plausible, or something approximating plausible, reasoning. Optimism based on fantasies and just silly reasoning smacks of desperation. Most of the OPs reasons for optimism dont pass the straight face test.
I am embracing the team as much as you are, but my optimism is more measured. Nonetheless, you make a good case, and I'm coming around to unbridling any restrained enthusiasm. I can learn to unleash the enthusiasm for the '2 headed beast', for Roundtree, and for our 'brick wall'.
I can't, however, muster any enthusiasm for the self-righteous argument that "we're Michigan and therefore we not only deserve to win but will get the best recruits in the country'. That just moves from unbridling extant enthusiasm to generating functionally sterile enthusiasm. I can't get on that un-piloted, wayward bandwagon.
I fully embrace this team in all its potential for success; I don't, however, embrace some other team we create in our fantasies.
Am I the only one who thinks the board has already been delusionally backslappingly optimisitc?
a quote from Spiro Agnew, of all people, in 2010. Perhaps there's something to that 2012 talk.
without William Safire.
I am with you on this OP. It's the off season damn it so I say fuck reality for now. As for the Ohio State fans in Michigan, wouldn't you leave Ohio if you lived there?
First of all that's funny, but Is having unrealistic expectations fun for you people?
offer me two months of soaring excitement and unrestrained anticipation, which feels awesome. Happy now, sad later.
and our opponents will ony bring the team together and make us better, faster. I'm tired of so-called UM fans joining the frey ... this just makes everything worse.
We need more UM fans to bring a postive attitude and refute all the negatives out there. I expect a breakout year that starts making our opponents squirm with concern about the talent we are bringing in and future of the program. Go Blue !!!
What's a "rep"? Are you talking about "fans"? Or sales reps?
as in 'representing'. Although following OSU, it could be short for reprehensible.
Love the optimism!
The apostrophe is good. You should get acquainted.
Also, you're username is RedSox, and you are presumably from Michigan, but you are complaining about people in one state rooting for teams in another state?
argh...need more coffee. Actually, I used the apostrophe correctly, I'm just an idiot and typed the conjunctive form of you are instead of the possessive "your".
and was already worried for your sanity
#5 doesn't sound so good without a key apostrophe. You have us as Freaking Michigan in the past tense. We were Freaking Michigan. Slightly different than "We're Freaking Michigan."
Loved the optimism. I'm waiting for the wave of pessimistic posts to start coming in the next 3 weeks.
I apprieciated the positive thread.. I think that you're mostly correct. It's ok to see the world through rose colored glasses. Hello Rose Bowl!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. In September, this Michigan team will start to show glimpses of what you know they are capable of, and the "rest" of them (i.e. Michigan football naysayer "fans") will start to get excited. In October, unlike last year, this Michigan team will keep on winning, and you'll just smile as the "rest" jump on the bandwagon, secretly wishing they weren't so short sighted to say all the pessimistic stuff that they did. In November, this Michigan team will continue to keep on surprising everyone, and when you cheer, you know it'll be more meaningful than most Michigan fans around you, because you actually believed, albeit a little irrationally. Then, come 2011, when the offseason is abuzz with Michigan love, you'll know you believed in 2010 (and 2009 and 2008) when others didn't.
I'm not saying we're going to go undefeated or win the Big Ten. I'm just saying, these are the times when being unyieldingly optimistic and irrational yields dividends for future seasons of fandom.
Kuddos to OP.
#5 has really helped us the last couple years hasn't it?
You are one of the most depressing posters here..and that's saying a lot.
Hey! I just posted this! http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/5-sane-reasons-not-worry
I'll say 6-6 or 7-5. The defense scares the shit out of me, but I'm super duper pumped for Denard.
6 and 6 please. You need to stop reading the philosophy of Mediocrates. 10 and 2 or bust baby!!!
Yes it has. Recruits still look at Michigan as a top program, despite our recent win-loss records. Good try, though.
Let's be real here. You have 2 QB's and neither is any good. One is too small and slow and the other throws like a girl. This team will be lucky to win 6 games this year. 2 headed monster? lol wow. It's going to be a longggg year at weasel U. good luck
It will be a long season. That's cool with me, as I prefer to savor my ass-whippings.
"Let every OSU fan hear what I am saying! Michigan will defeat them in the next 2 years."
If this means that UM will beat OSU in each of the next 2 years, not bloody likely.
On the other hand, if it means that UM will beat OSU at least once within the next 2 years, that may be plausible. In 2011 we will be at home, and we should have a much better team than in 2010.
since a ridiculous post received so many comments.
tRCMB still thinks they can talk shit by ripping this post.
offense to the OP, but he does sound delusionally stupid. mogoblowdiehardfans can make us look foolish too.
This post deserves it.
I guess they wont be calling me stupid when we kick states ass.
Don't worry guys, were going to win a lot this year because were the leaders and best...
