5* DT A'Shawn Robinson flips to Alabama

5 star DT A'Shawn Robinson, the prized recruit in Texas' class, has flipped to Alabama after being committed for over a year. This should probably end all speculation on Henry Poggi. On another note, Texas probably picked the worst time to turn into a dumpster fire. A&M leaves for the SEC and Manziel wins the Heisman, and now Texas is losing its grip on in-state recruiting.

At least Texas fans have the Longhorn Network. Hope it was worth it.

Geoff Ketchum ‏@gkketch

OB has confirmed that A'Shawn Robinson has informed the Texas coaches in an in-home visit that he will sign with Alabama on Wednesday.

Poggi hasn't come out and outright squashed all rumors.

We have 4 major outlets and not one can get a quote?

“True loyalty is that quality of service that grows under adversity and expands in defeat. Any street urchin can shout applause in victory, but it takes character to stand fast in defeat. One is noise — the other, loyalty.”

Not really news, so I'll share it.....

TomVH said they don't answer any questions regarding the whole recruiting thing.  So you won't get anything out of the family one way or another.  Might be why the 247 guy likes to start rumors with Poggi, he knows it will have a longer life because no one will squash them.

I'm almost positive he gave interviews on his recruitment during the H.S. all-star game week. Squashed the Alabama rumors and had some nice things to say about his peers in the U-M class.

I agree that it's strange that he hasn't publically denied the Bama buzz this time around, especially since he, you know, visited there.

"There was a time I could have been mistaken for Burt Reynolds. I had a moustache and so did he. But he was the number one star in the world, so there wasn't really much confusion."

The only statement he really gave about his recruitment was a terse statement vehemently denying considering Bama. And the only reason he even gave that was because he really couldn't get away from reporters at the UA game. The Poggi's have generally shied away from the media throughout Henry's recruitment.

We played a much more diffucult schedule.  With all the in-state talent and reach into west coast and various parts of the South, there's no excuse for Texas.  Imagine if McCoy doesn't get hurt on the first play back in 09.  Texas probably wins and Mack isn't on such a hot seat.  Still, OU has been to Texas what OSU was to us under Tressell.  Remember when McFarland's mom said she was so put off by Brown that she told her son OU would be a better fit? I don't think UT goes the RR route.  They just need some fresh young blood in there.  Maybe Manny Diaz gets promoted? Young guy, minority so maybe he connects a little better with the kids he's recruiting?

2012: 9-4

Michigan in the same period:

2010: 7-6

2011: 11-2

2012: 8-5

And considering the comparison of recruiting classes and expectation of fans at the time, I think you can fairly say that Texas fans are much more disappointed about the state of their program. Michigan is coming from a much different place than Texas the past 3 years.

Look at our schedules, first off, and compare losses.

Second, they've got a coach that (while once great) seems to be losing his grip on the team and in-state dominance of recruiting. In the past they always got who they wanted as far as Texas recruiting; this year, they've completely crumbled.

Finally, we were a dumpster fire.. two years ago. Now we clearly are rebuilding under a new coach both on the field and in recruiting. This comparison is baseless.

P.S. They lost by 40 to their biggest rival.

Regardless of who had the better 9-4 season, the Texas program is still in excellent shape.  The Texas A&M is better talk is not unlike the MSU is better argument.  It COULD come true (like it did in basketball wrt to UM vs MSU - for a decade or so), but there's a lot of history to overcome.  Texas is still going to have one of the top 5 most talented teams in the country.  Mac Brown has obviously struggled, but it's nothing close to a "dumpster fire"

Sumlin is not going to be there long term.  There is a very good chance he will be in the NFL after next season.  He had alot of schools looking at him and the extension he signed will do nothing to stop that.

This sucks. I'm starting my MBA at UT in Aug., and I thought I could look forward to football Saturdays w/ the typical UT prowess. They grabbed the last two #1 RBs in the nation, but it seems like I should pack for some Alamo Bowls.

I'm not sure if anyone's noticing, but Alabama has recruited really well over the past few years. If they keep this up, they could turn into serious contenders for SEC and even national titles.
