49ers owner: "performance tonight was unacceptable

Submitted by michgoblue on
Apparently, the owner of the 49ers just tweeted that the team's performance tonight was "unacceptable" and apologized to fans.

Kind of an odd tweet for an owner. If it looks like the playoffs are not in the cards, given some of the bad blood, could the 49ers possibly fire Harbaugh before the end of the season? Doubtful, but that tweet probably won't sit well with him.

Couple this with what might be a big loss in 36 hours, and perhaps the stars are aligning?

Note: apologies for creating two threads in one hour relating to the cc. The first was more of an open thread to discuss and speculate, but I felt that this was thread-worthy on its own. If the mods feel differently, please delete, delete this one or consolidate both.

This is super-newsworthy, more than anything thus far. I think York is trying to bait Harbaugh into quitting, thereby saving the Niners money. We might see movement by Monday...

Can't imagine Harbaugh quitting mid-season, if that's what you're getting at. I suspect he's sick of management, and any coach would be pretty peeved by that tweet, but quitting on your team in the middle of the year is never a good look. I think (and hope) he has too much integrity to do that to the guys who are playing for him. And they aren't out of contention for anything yet.

Yes, this is newsworthy.  It's not every day an owner tweets apologies to fans--and in doing so implies others lower down the chain are responsible . . . .

I'm hoping this means both (1) SF brass are considering a new direction and (2) Harbaugh enjoys SF less.  If so, the timing for Michigan couldn't be better.

There's a chance!

Statement was the total truth. Niners should run off Harbaugh and get the coach the front office deserves: some servile chode who will win five games next year but wax Trent Balke's car if asked.

I know a coach who was specifically hired because he was willing to be subservient to an egomaniacal boss and who is good at winning 5 games. Hell, I think he even knows the directions by which to walk from his current locale to California.

/all in good fun. I actually like hoke a lot as a person.

It would be kind of strange, but it's so much smoke that their has to be fire. All we've been hearing all year is how Harbaugh is wearing thin with the players and he's at odds with management so I think he's gone one way or the other.

Then since Hoke's gonna be gone, he has an opening to come home and resurrect his alma mater. I think everything is setting up nicely.

is so good. I think if he comes here he won't have to worry about his boss "apologizing" for him.

I will also get super sentimental if he is on the sidelines next year. I might play that "I'm coming home" song on repeat for a month straight.
