Finally... people are coming around.  Michigan's downfall this decade is NOT DB's fault.  It's not RR's fault.  It's not Hoke's fault.  It's Carr -- the guy who thinks he can parlay his undefeated season into being a grumpy old bastard, affecting coaching searches, and not publicly supporting the program.

of the banquet occuring prior to a firing; that hardly qualifies as 'alarmist.' I am encouraged that a Hackett presser is confirmed for this afternoon. Time to turn the page and begin a new chapter. GO BLUE     (I might eat a lemon anyway for the experience)

and will not neg you. However - I just don't see how you get this.

Let's assume for a moment that we choose to summarize Lloyd Carr's ***27*** years of coaching at Michigan, 12 years as head coach, his national championship, his 5 big 10 titles,  his recommendation (according to Bacon) of Rich Rodriguez to Martin, and, we'll assume for the sake of argument, his remarks to players about Rodriguez that may have caused some of them to leave Michigan as "ruining" football at Michigan.

We'll assume that.

My question is, can we then assume that since it's unlikely that any other coach will ever do more net positive for Michigan than Carr, that EVERY OTHER COACH AND PLAYER for the history of Michigan football has, by this standard, also RUINED Michigan football?

In other words, I think it's just plain silly to say that a man with Carr's credentials has "ruined" Michigan football. If he's involved over the next month (which I doubt), I'm sure he will handle himself with class and intelligence, and will do nothing but help the process of finding a great coach, much (as I believe) as he did with RR.  I say this as a guy that seriously wishes we hadn't fired Rodriguez, and has nothing but respect for RR.

I managed to get a "503 - Backend Fetch Failed" message about three times before I could even get into this thread, which I believe means that Brian or someone had to flush the RAM. They may need to do that on an hourly basis starting around 4:30 PM or so now, or indeed earlier if we can get some more FootballScoop or CC threads going.

In all seriousness, of course, I think this means that this was an exit interview of sorts, or at least I have never seen a presser announcing that someone has been retained.

I usually don't like to see anyone fired, particuarly if that person is a "good person"...however in this case, the incompetence is so high, stubborness and unwilling to change his ways or improve his own ability as a HC warrant this firing 100%.

Hack: I've decided to retain Brady Hoke.  No one cares about our kids more than he does.

Hoke: Well, obviously I need to execute better as a coach.  Just happy to be able to stand on those sidelines and clap one more year.  I love the clap, it hides the fact that I really have no idea what's going on out there on the field.  And I am going to execute that clap on game days just as hard as I do in practice.  I am aware that this won't make some fans very happy, well, obviously not fully aware, but I have 115 sons out there, at least that I am aware of.  Go Blue Fergodsakes!
