4-Star RB to... the MAC?!?!?

Obviously, his offered list is a bit telling. I'm assuming his options were limited for a reason

But I am always surprised when a 4-star goes non-BCS. Couple years ago Southern Miss got a 4-star WR (top 100) and he's been their star player... that is never talked about or seen.

Anyone remember any other 4-star recruits that succeeded (or vanished) at non-BCS schools?

He is a 4-start with the recruiting websites. I personally look into offer sheets a lot more then some e-rating. The coaches know way more than any online recruiting 'guru'. It's like being surprised when somebody in Mel Kipers first round get dropped to the fifth round.

Wasn't DeAngelo Williams pretty highly ranked when he committed to Memphis? Brian Brohm going to Louisville before they left CUSA also comes to mind.

If he wants to play in the NFL, attending a non-BCS college is hardly a deathknell. If you distinguish yourself even in the MAC, you'll get the looks you need.

I would say maybe he wants to stay close to home, but Toledo and Columbus are about the same distance away, with Columbus maybe being a little closer.

Toledo picked up a 4-star DB, Jermaine Robinson, last year from NY. He went to prep school for one year and then started at safety his first year on campus. Minnesota was in on his for awhile, but that's the only BCS team that gave him a serious look.

Toledo picked up 4-start WR, James Green, this year who was committed to Minny at one time. My Rockets own the Gophers.

What I can't understand is why the heck he committed to the Zips when he had a Toledo offer? I mean, okay, Akron had a nice little run for a couple of years, but they have NO tradition at all.

The Glass Bowl is actually a pretty historical venue and the new Athletic Complex at Savage Hall is fantastic.

Reasoning from his local paper is that he may qualify right away and may have to go the prep school route, which scared off the bigger schools. Also, he is an undersized running back according to things I have read

MSU and OSU would have offered him if he had the academics, IIRC, he said something about trying to transfer to a bigger school once it was certain that he'd be able to do so, which drew some ire from fan(s) of the MAC schools recruiting him.

Going to a smaller program can be a huge advantage in that usually those programs will make you a star and give you every oppurtunity to shine. And you don't have the stress of winning the BCS National Popularity Contest.
