4-Star DB Leon McQuay III Visiting This Weekend

Submitted by icefins26 on

Just connecting the dots through Rivals (picture of Leon McQuay) that he is visiting this weekend.  The heading also reads as "visitors" so there may be others visiting as well.  He'd be a huge pickup (6'2" 185) - Rivals has him as the 32nd best player in the country and the 3rd best safety.  Offers from virtually everyone, including the ESSSEEEECEEE.

Tremendous/Aquaman, etc. any idea on when he wants to make a decision?

He's going to be an extremely tough pull from the south but he is on campus so there is always a chance but a very small one at that.

From what I've heard he's visiting because he told the coaches he would visit at one point and his father wants him to be a man of his word. Obviously it's always a really great opportunity to get a prospect on campus, but worst case scenario it's just a formality and he's not very open about leaving the state. Here's hoping the visit blows him away.

is huge and not as easy as you make it sound (especially on an unofficial visit). It costs a lot of money to do it, and a kid like that has a lot of options.

Banner and Garnett both were on official visits, and Michigan ended up a finalist for Garnett.  Mathis visited during a camp setting and didn't really get a full tour, and Michigan is still in his top group for now.

The odds are low for pulling any top 50 recruit (especially from FL, TX, or CA).   But our odds just significantly improved by getting him on campus which is why I feel this news should be greeted with some optimism or at least wait to see what his post visit reaction is like.

Already have a great saftey coming in(Dunn) but you can never have to man DB's in my opinipion.. Offense wins games, A great D will win Championships.. We need more of a consistent secondary so a committ from consensus 4* would be nice for a great weekend!

Realistically I'll go ahead and say we have little to no chance. If he does visit there's always a chance that Hoke and Mattison put themselves into the fold, but I wouldn't hold my breath here.

It really is though. If you're a recruit, only 18 years of age, when would a coach comparing you to a NFL legend get old? And on top of that Mattison's track record speaks for itself, so when you combine it all with his commanding personality you end up with an elite recruiter. It may get old to us, but it will forever be music to the ears of recruits.

This is the highlight video linked on the Tremendous profile of Leon McQuay III. I watched it at lunch - I like that he seems to be able to see and predict plays, which I think you would want in a safety, especially one that runs a 4.5 (I think I saw that on his Tremendous profile - I'll take that in the backfield). Seems like he can get to receivers in a flash and a great INT threat.
