Per the various sites today; that's in order, btw. He plans on taking officials to all three. The general feeling given by Steve L. at 247 is that Michigan really likes him and would take him if he wanted to commit now (obviously he doesn't). It sounds like Stanford will be tough to beat, but U-M being ahead of Northwestern (where his brother plays) is newsworthy in itself, IMO. Obviously Michigan wouldn't take him at the risk of having Hand or McDowell get shut out...but Dickerson's timeline should make that moot.
4* NJ TE/DE Garrett Dickerson's top 3: Stanford, M, Northwestern
Would be quite a logjam at DE if Dickerson, Hand AND McDowell all committed... in addition to Marshall.
Are recruiting Dickerson for TE or DE? McDowell is looking like a candidate for a move inside.
It seems like they want him at DE. They have told their other TE targets that they are full there, so I would assume that's where he gets his first look. Who knows though, maybe they get him on campus and he is too good on offense to ignore.
Nothing to see here...I was beat to the question by 2 minutes. Who ya got in game 6? I am picking the Spurs to close things out.
After Bunting committed, Michigan told Dickerson they would continue to recruit him exclusively at DE now. Although if U-M lands Hand and McDowell and still wants Dickerson (and Dickerson decides he wants U-M), I imagine they'd bring him in as an "athlete" and find a spot for him, either at DE or TE.
Sounds like a smart guy.
Last time I checked he's being recruited as an ATH. So probably get moved around and tried out. The Norfleet treatment.
If we land Dickerson, Hand, McDowell and Marshall, would that be the best DE recruiting in the history of recruiting? Yes, I believe it would be.
Nope, Florida2010 is probably a DL class that can never be topped, the numbers 1, 4, and 7 prospects nationally on the DL with a couple more top 150 DL prospects as well. It would be the equivilant of Michigan landing Hand, Brown and Lorenzo Carter along with their current commits.
Aren't we forgetting Mone, who's pretty damned good too?
I was including Mone and Marshall in saying their current commits. That 2010 Florida class on paper was insane, Their DL recruits consisted of the #s 1, 4, 7, 95, 123 players in the country and another 4 star outside the top 250. So if Mone is about equal to the #95 player and Marshall is about like the #123 player then you need 3 top 7 DL players to match that Florida class.
Now that's a kid who you can definitely take seriously when he says that academics are a major factor. I wouldn't be surprised if Hoke continues recruiting him even if he lands Hand, Marshall, and/or McDowell, since Dickerson seems like a kid with a good head on his shoulders.
I really like kids like this who can think not only beyond college, beyond the NFL (if they are lucky enough), to their future "real" career. After watching "Broke", it really struck me that even a good (maybe not great) NFL player is retired by 30-33. That means they either, 1. have to live off their earnings for fifty years, or 2. starting working. And that's if they're good enough to make it to the NFL for a few years. I know it's hard to sell a lot of kids on their lives 15 years later, but you'd have to figure it's a factor for many. That list makes me happy, it actually shows he's a STUDENT-athlete; student first. I'll be pulling for Michigan to get this kid as much as Hand.
...okay, almost as much as Hand.
With that top 3, here's hoping he wants to stay close to home.
Northwestern has to be the front runner imo. His brother plays there, as well as his high school teammate from Bergen Catholic has also commited.
Dickerson himself said his final three is in order: Stanford first, Michigan second, Northwestern third.
Off topic but I suggest you change your profile picture
And I feel so strongly about it that I posted it twice
Not to say anything about your name, signature or content of your sole post.
unless the class size gets to be over 20, or unless both Hand and McDowell go elsewhere in the meantime. Otherwise, too many other needs and not enough slots for them to take another DE or TE.
Here is Dickerson's junior year highlight reel via YouTube...
Nice film. Dickerson looks like an even better athlete than I had imagined. He has quick feet and good balance, but in his film he did a nice job using his hands to shed blockers. Would love it if we landed him.
is his decision date expected to be?
He seems set on taking officials to all three schools, and he said yesterday that he might not be able to do so during the fall because Bergen Catholic plays a lot of games on Saturdays. So this one could very well go into December or January (which would be just fine for us, since Hand and McDowell will likely be off the board one way or another by then), and we'll have a better idea of what the numbers look like.
/ someone who actually takes his education really seriously to have a top 3 of Stanford, Michigan, and Northwestern. If he had some Vandy in there he'd have completed the nerd-trifecta (plus Michigan)
At 2:25, you can see him bowl over Jabrill Peppers.
