3-3-5 Early Returns
It has been alluded to that UM will be running at least some 3-3-5 this season. Some have gone so far as to argue that this will be our new base defense: http://www.annarbor.com/sports/um-football/michigan-hoping-3-3-5-defens…
I'm curious, and would like to solicit the opinion of those more informed than me, what this alignment would look like in terms of personnel. I'm particularly concerned with the defensive line - are we still going to be able to get Big Will and Martin on the field at the same time?
Insight is much appreciated.

I am really confused as to how this all relates to my original question but w/e.

I believe the tangential occurred with BornInAA's post; I was just taking your bait.
My general gut says your assumptions are correct, but I'm really more of a hockey x's and o's guy than I am football.

yeah all I basically know is what NCAA college football for the 360 taught me, which isn't a whole lot. I have read a couple informed posts since I asked the question but it doesn't seem quite like I originally thought.

Did you seriously just post a bunch of pictures from a game Notre Dame lost? I just watched the Tiger Woods episode of South Park and your post might be funnier.
there was a video too =)

Me too!! I want to play too!
I can't believe no one else go to these yet.

I think Rich Rod does plan to run a lot of the 3-3-5 just based on the number of defensive backs he recruited last year. I thought we pulled in quite alot in the 2010 recruiting class, more than made sense even with the poor play and thin depth in the defensive backfield last year.
How many true freshmen are really going to help next season? Then later you may be stuck with a glut of DB's and guys not contributing because of depth. It really only makes sense to recruit so many, given the limited numbers of scholarships, if you plan on needing a lot more.

We really don't have an overabundance of defensive backs - it's just that they're mostly crammed into the 2010 and 2011 classes. We still will only have about 12 or 13 defensive backs (to fill 5 positions) in the fall, I think.
