#25 WBB clinches double bye, blows out Nebraska

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

After a rough game on Sunday in front of a sold out Crisler for the first time ever, the #25 ranked Wolverine Women once again played at Crisler Center.

This time it was against last place Nebraska in front of a sparse crowd on senior night.

We honored Siera Thompson and Danielle Williams tonight. Thompson was the all-time leader in 3-pointers here until her teammate Katelynn Flaherty passed her up. She's been a great PG for us and will be missed next season.

Michigan raced out to a 28-11 lead after the 1st quarter before allowing Nebraska to keep what little chance they had alive, by holding Michigan scoreless for a little bit late to end the half which ended in a Nebraska triple.

It took a bit in the second half, but the Wolverines eventually pulled away midway through the 3rd, and would take this one 88-60.

Katelynn Flaherty was back tonight. A 25 point outing with five 3s for the all-time leader. Great response by her.

Kysre Gondrezick had 21 off the bench (Danielle Williams got the start on senior night).

Michigan has officially clinched 3rd place in the B1G, the highest finish for the program outright since 1999-00.

This means we will get the coveted double bye in the B1G Tournament next week in Indianapolis and the 3 seed. Our B1G Tournament Quarterfinal game will take place at 9pm on BTN next Friday.

But before we do any of that, the regular season finale still has to happen. It'll come to a wrap on Sunday when we head to Penn State for a 2pm tilt on BTN.

While losing a senior PG will no doubt take a toll, Gondrezick appears ready to replace Sierra's production and then some. With marginal development from our returning players in conjunction with the current recruiting, it wouldn't shock me to see the the girls be a top 10-15 type team for the next 2-3 years. The only thing we really lack is perimter athleticism/defense at this point. And Deja Church is going to be a big piece in solving that puzzle.

That MSU game really irks me, prime chance and got depantsed. I hope that they continue to do well and build a following.

Happy they followed it up with a strong performance.

That MSU game, while annoying to all of us, served as a reminder there is still a long road ahead for UM WBB. She cited what MSU has done in the past as what she hopes to do with Michigan. I'm glad they got the double bye, and I think the future is incredibly bright for our women's team. Go Blue and beat PSU!

i thought he did a nice job while he was here - i think he became known for that postgame rant early in his tenure, but i liked it...he was calling out his team publicly, and sometimes you need to do that.

i have to say, i don't remember an issue with the transition, though - i thought he left  by his own choice, to get closer to family...am i forgetting something?

agree 100% - arrico was a great hire.
