Stretchable pants work
January 10th, 2017 at 2:55 PM ^
can because I touch myself at night. That and a couple grey shirts I would guess.
January 10th, 2017 at 3:03 PM ^
That doesn't help with the 25 a year cap though. I think that's his question.
January 10th, 2017 at 3:14 PM ^
Yea, should have given it more thought
January 10th, 2017 at 3:01 PM ^
It will work out.
January 10th, 2017 at 3:06 PM ^
cousin, blueshirts. Blueshirts can be on scholarship and play right away. The difference between them and regular recruits is that they can't have been formally recruited: no official visits, no in-home visits from coaches, no LOI. They are basically free agents who show up in the fall.
January 10th, 2017 at 3:18 PM ^
Blueshirts. I don't know if any of our likely targets would qualify within the rules, but any "late flyers" probably would for those last few spots. Would hate to have to gray-shirt a kid who has already committed.
Side note - has anyone heard anything recently on the legacy 3* TE from Michigan that decomitted early in the process? (blanking on the name) Last I checked a few months back he was still not committed to a school - I wonder if he is a PWO possibility or if that ship has sailed.
January 10th, 2017 at 3:42 PM ^
Could be why his recruitment has been so quiet. I think we'd much prefer blueshirts over grayshirts. Another possibility could be a recruit with academic issues. If they qualify after LOI day, they could be added without risking a wasted spot on them if they missed. I don't know who fits in that category, maybe Bateman?
January 10th, 2017 at 3:49 PM ^
Do we have any current commits who didn't take officials? If so that's intentionally done for the blueshirt, which isn't really a bad thing for the kids at all.
January 10th, 2017 at 4:23 PM ^
Samuels too and he's also supposed to take one soon.
If you're looking for a reason Honigford's was scheduled for the last weekend before LOIs, that' could be it.
January 10th, 2017 at 3:11 PM ^
I'd imagine to get to 25 per class they'd be able to back date a few of the early enrollees. Not sure how that all works really, but I'd imagine the coaching staff already has that figured out. Doesn't seem like there are any greyshirts ahead but who knows.
January 10th, 2017 at 3:12 PM ^
to get to 30-32, but that certainly doesn't mean it will happen. Herbert is gone, Samuels might not get in, and you never know if someone is going to pull D-move Hamilton on us. Nico, Gay, Solomon are no where close to locks.
Adds look like Sebastian, Becton, and my off the radar 4-5 star Harbaugh special. My guess is the number is 28 and only gets to 30 if Nico, Gay or Solomon come. I think we should consider ourself blessed if we get one of those 3. So with back-dating 25 is not going to be an issue.

NCAA rule is only 25 can sign between signing day and May1st. EE's only have to have room in the 85 player roster for Winter Term. If members of the team graduate in December, they can be replaced by EEs and count toward last years limit.
It sounds like it helps if Seniors graduate early to allow more EEs.
Basically, 25 + EEs (as long as there are only 85 on scholarship in Winter Term).
Need to get down to 85 by August.
January 10th, 2017 at 3:46 PM ^
into the previous class to bring it up to 25
we can do 5 since that class was 20 (26-6 EE's back to 2015)
January 10th, 2017 at 3:47 PM ^
Above is the actual answer. We also have space for so many EEs because we have a lot of guys who won't be in school/on the roster as they get ready for the draft.
Harbaugh really does cares about the classroom; he also cares about guys graduating in 3.5 years instead of 4 because that creates more recruiting roster flexibility. Hence the emphasis on it and record number of academic all B1G players this year.
January 10th, 2017 at 4:10 PM ^
but he can still only backdate 5 of them this time.
January 10th, 2017 at 4:19 PM ^
He can backdate as many as guys that graduate in Dec.
January 10th, 2017 at 4:36 PM ^
There were officially 20, so there's room for 5 more. You have both 85 total and 25 per class limits to deal with.
January 10th, 2017 at 4:15 PM ^
30 is the class limit for enrolling come fall, for the reasons you state.
However, you can oversign by 3 in the B1G, so they could sign up to 33. But 3 would not be able to be on scholly for fall 2017.
January 10th, 2017 at 6:09 PM ^
According to Big Ten associate commissioner Chad Hawley, schools are allowed three over the 85-man limit, not the annual 25-man limit. If, for example, Michigan ends a season with 20 open scholarship spots, then Michigan may sign 23 players. No more.
If a Big Ten program chooses to oversign, Hawley said, it then must document exactly how it came under the 85-scholarship limit.
January 10th, 2017 at 4:16 PM ^
Midyear enrollees (EEs) are exempt from the 25 limit. See Rule 13.9.2.3.1
on page 317 of PDF
January 10th, 2017 at 4:28 PM ^
They are exempt, but basically only 85 players can be receiving financial aid in the Winter Term and guys leaving early (i.e. Peppers) still count against that 85 limit because he didn't graduate.
January 10th, 2017 at 4:47 PM ^
IF they become initial counters for the current academic year, in other words they are backdated into the previous class. You still have a cap of 25 for that class.

If, as some have speculated, (a) Kai-Leon Herbert de-commits, (b) O’Maury Samuels doesn’t qualify, and (c) Aubrey Solomon, Jay Tufele, Tedarrell Slaton, Nico Collins, and Willie Gay all go elsewhere, who are the five prospects who would have a reasonably good chance to be added to the recruiting Class of 2017 in order to get to 30?
Uncommitted OT Mekhi Becton? Boston College commit CB Brandon Sebastian? Uncommitted LB Ellis Brooks? Uncommitted WR Oliver Martin? Uncommitted DT Corey Bolds from Paramus (NJ) Catholic? . . . ?
January 10th, 2017 at 7:58 PM ^
I guess if he leaves the 2016 class we can back date one more to get to 31
Not aware of any others considering leaving the 2016 class though
