2017 football PSDs and season tickets are increasing

Submitted by FabFiver5 on

In a surprise to probably no one, the Athletic Department has announced in an email to season ticket holders that the Personal Seat Donations and season tickets are increasing next year. I guess with the success of Harbaugh comes the opening of the wallets...

We are committed to ensuring our football program has everything it needs to compete at the highest level, and your support is pivotal. Since 2014, our investment in our success has increased significantly, however revenue has not kept pace at nearly the same rate. Consequently, I want to inform you of an increase in PSD and season ticket prices for the 2017 and 2018 football seasons, marking our first change in four years.

Season Tickets

The price of a season ticket will also increase by five percent (5%) to $68.33 per game with an additional $10 charge for premium home games. For the 2017 season, MSU and OSU will be designated as premium games, bringing the cost of a season ticket to $430. A season ticket cost $65 per game for the five-year period between 2012 and 2016.

This was always going to be part of the Dave Brandon Master Plan (R)

Once OSU & MSU were the same year, they had one really crappy home year - say 2016. The AD could claim "we don't have a marquee home game, so we'll keep ticket prices flat!"

Then raise it the "good" year.

Michigan winning will make this easier for the fans to accept, but the schedule is why prices are going up.

I can handle that $3 per ticket for my end zone seats!  But looks as though the Club Seats had -0- increase ($4K to $4K).  Ticket increase really means little as we have fewer home games next season ... so an easy time to increase.  Oh yeah ... BEAT ohio

Can anyone explain the "revenue has not kept pace at nearly the same rate" comment?  I thought Nike gave Michigan all of the money and I also thought that the demand for tickets spiked the day the Harbaugh hire was announced nearly two years ago.

Given the Nike contract, Harbaugh hire and what we've heard about the upcoming TV deal it's hard to imagine a scenario where revenue growth would ever be better than it is right now....?  Right???

Wasn't it already known this year was the year for increasing PSDs? It's such a marginal number for just about every level (between $3-30 for the bowl seats is way lower than anticipated), this isn't near the money grab it could have been.

Why not?  As long as you have a good product on the field, life is good. If that changes, all hell will break loose as it has with most other programs and the NFL.

they are getting a bigger year-end donation as well.  I trust the stweards of the program, and they are showing tangible results on the field.  Money chases success.

And this comes out. Not much money but they creep up on you like the cell companies. You sign a contract but the rates keep going up. I will pay big $ for a great game .. how do you sell Maryland, Indy et al for more than 50. Talk to me Dave ... Better win some championships. I thought the pressure was on Ohio but Dave must think we got this...

Yeah and to me Iowa clearly should be the 'premium' game with how rare it is and how bad MSU sucks right now. I also laugh at the idea of charging more for particular games, like isn't the point of SEASON tickets that you get a discount? $500 endzone to see Iowa, MSU, Ohio St, i can get those cheaper online. As for the other 3 games, couldn't pay me to go
