2017 Football Promotions Schedule

Submitted by MGoLesher on

While checking MGoBlue.com today I came across the list of promotions and giveaways for this season's home games.

Below are the announced promotions for the season opener against Cincinnati:

• Michigan Marching Band Halftime Show -- A collaboration and premier you won't want to miss!
• Honorary Captain -- Adam Schefter (1989 University of Michigan graduate, NFL Insider for ESPN)
• Giveaway -- The first 10,000 Michigan students will receive a rally towel
• Men's Basketball Big Ten Tournament Championship Recognition
• Women's Basketball WNIT Championship Recognition
• Women's Tennis Big Ten Championship Recognition

Of note for the rest of the season:

  • The typical parachute jump and T-38 flyover will take place during the Air Force game on Sept. 16.
  • Announced Honorary Captains: Adam Schefter (Cincinnati), Charles Woodson (OSU)
  • The 1997 National Championship Team will be recognized during the Michigan State game on Oct. 7.
  • It appears the athletic department is moving away from pom poms and towards...rally towels. The first 10,000 students for the Cincinnati game and the first 15,000 for the MSU game will receive towels.

What's funny is that, thanks to 2010's World Cup, vuvuzelas are specifically on the banned list in a lot of major venues around the soccer world, or at least that's what I recall from the immediate aftermath of that World Cup. I know Wembley and several major venues in the UK banned them....even a few comic conventions banned them actually.

Sorry to hear they are moving to rally towels. Last batch they used were so full of lint that it looked like snow at times. Got all over people's clothes.I don't think they show up as well on TV as the maize pom poms.

This is one of the stupider and more annoying things Warde has done as AD.

Hackett smartly kept the pom poms going in 2015 for the State game.

The Big House by far looks the best in games in which we had pom poms handed out, we use those shots in nearly all of our promotion pictures. Penn State, Alabama, Auburn and plenty of other fearsome stadiums all use pom poms.

Rally towels don't look nearly as good and are much harder to use.

Either way, it's also problematic that they're only giving them out in the student section. The student section is the only part of the stadium that looks good on TV with our without them.

We really need pom poms for the OSU games so it doesn't look like half our stadium is red after hoards of non-student season ticket holders sell off seats.

When the 97 team is recognized at the MSU game, can Woodson recreate his interception?

I doubt Todd Schultz would agree to come back to throw the pass so someone would have to fill in for him.

Was in EL for a game a few years ago in the MSU student section. There were rally towels. It was raining. My head took a pounding (I was wearing M gear obviously).
