2017 247 Sports top 100
For anyone who wants to feel old, 247 Sports has ranked their top 100 for the 2017 class.
http://247sports.com/Season/2017-Football/RecruitRankings?InstitutionGr…
LSU already has their number 1 player committed, and there are 3 Michigan players in the top 50 including James Ross' brother checking in at #50.
Clearly a lot will change in the next 2 years but nice to see 3 MIchigan kids ranked so highly.

That's 10 years after I graduated high school. Damn that makes me feel old.
August 11th, 2014 at 9:24 PM ^
Same here...
August 11th, 2014 at 9:32 PM ^
Pssh! 18 for me.
Crud, that means by the time those kids enroll, the memory of my high school graduation will have been old enough to graduate high school!
Mind = blown.
August 11th, 2014 at 9:39 PM ^
Nuts to both of you.
August 11th, 2014 at 9:48 PM ^
I was going to say- these kids were 4 when I graduated from high school.
And I call recruits "kids" all the time.
August 12th, 2014 at 10:50 AM ^
Same here. I guess that means my 10-year reunion is soon.
August 11th, 2014 at 9:24 PM ^
Holy crap. I'm still focusing on 2015.
August 11th, 2014 at 9:47 PM ^
Please don't make any 2017 buckle-up predictions.

These kids have only played their FR year of high school. They are entering, right now, their So year. This list means almost next to nothing. Half the kids haven't gone through puberty yet. Many kids that will eventually be great haven't gotten off their JV team yet.
This is a "here's 100 players that matured faster than their peers" list. It's really getting ridiculous. But with all the recruiting sites, now it's a race for who can get them out soonest, despite the fact it means very little. I mean, it's one thing that teams are forced to delve into recruiting a little bit this early, but do these kids, kids that are Sophs, really need to see themselves on top 100 lists and stuff? Sorry for rambling, but even as someone who follows recruiting, as a high school level coach I feel this is way out of hand and too much. I feel uncomfortable with this list. And I think it's a pretty pointless thing on top of it. Most of these kids are 14-15 years old!
August 11th, 2014 at 9:51 PM ^
They did mention he needed some time in the weight room.
August 11th, 2014 at 10:47 PM ^
Can they halt male pattern baldness in a weight room?
August 11th, 2014 at 10:03 PM ^
I completely agree that these kids are the ones who have matured the fastest, AND have gone to camps and combines to be seen and evaluated. Thousands of players in the class of 2017 have never been evaluated by Scout, Rivals, 24/7...ect.
One thing to consider though about 2017 studs...I bet most on this list are 16 years old already. And at one point in their schooling they repeated a grade.....it's a big trend for parents to do that to give their some a better chance to get a scholarship.
August 11th, 2014 at 10:22 PM ^
This is so true. So basically, these kids won't take the college field for four years? Lol cumong man
August 12th, 2014 at 1:46 AM ^
Most kids get recruited at either 8th or 9th grade.
Football is nothing compared to basketball
August 12th, 2014 at 8:29 AM ^
NFL teams bust every year on their 1st round picks, and those are the professionalis drafting 21-23 year olds. That list doesn't mean "almost next to nothing"...it means absolutely nothing.
As a guy who works with kids in that age group, it sickens me to see the rankings of basketball kids in middle school and 9th graders like this. I don't know if it's coincidence or causation that so many of them come to college and have struggles socially, academically, and/or legally because in some of their most formative years, they had websites telling them how good they were, then coaches recruiting them either telling them how good they were or flat out lying to them (Holgorsen) and I wonder how delayed their coping mechanisms are for dealing with the stress early on and then the competition once they get where they're going. For some kids, maybe this helps, but what about the kids who don't have the support network at home? I fear ranking kids in the summer after their 9th grade school year in football and earlier in basketball is a detrimental thing to do for them. Wait until they at least finish their junior seasons.

I work with 9th (going on 10th) graders every week. It is strange to me that they or their classmates are being recruited by colleges and fanboys already
August 11th, 2014 at 9:34 PM ^
It is very very early but Peoples-Jones is a UM legacy and Josh Ross comes from a UM family and has his brother here now...every reason to suspect the talent level will continue to be high for years to come
August 11th, 2014 at 9:47 PM ^
What about the third kid? The OT?
August 11th, 2014 at 10:48 PM ^
I can say definitively that Emani Mason is not the son of Shonte Peoples.
August 11th, 2014 at 9:55 PM ^
The (very) early crystal balls have Peoples-Jones to OSU, probably since they already offered him a scholarship. Didnt know he was a legacy though, who was his did?
August 11th, 2014 at 10:04 PM ^
Mr Peoples-Jones
August 11th, 2014 at 10:16 PM ^
Shonte Peoples
August 11th, 2014 at 10:34 PM ^
have predicted so far
August 11th, 2014 at 11:10 PM ^
If #14 Shaun Wade sounds familiar it's because I posted about him a while, ago after he got his OSU offer. Now top 100 in football AND basketball for 2017 #proudcoach
August 11th, 2014 at 11:12 PM ^
Also #22 Dj Matthews is one of mine. He's way too low at 22, actually better than Shaun in football. Already committed to Florida State
August 11th, 2014 at 11:59 PM ^
Damn nice job man. Is/was Michigan recruiting either of them?
August 12th, 2014 at 12:47 AM ^
Dj already committed to FSU, almost 0% chance he doesn't follow through with that.
Shaun is very interested in M but it isn't mutual yet. I will send film on him after the season, or midway through, hopefully they follow with an offer. Good chance we'll get an official visit if so

My twin 5 year old boys had their Kindergarten open house tonight...and i havn't even looked into a hudl page or signed them up for a regional 7 on 7! Am i too late....(panting and breathless)????
August 12th, 2014 at 12:22 AM ^
If the guys in the class of 2017 look like this I guess it's not too early.
August 12th, 2014 at 12:27 AM ^
How is that even ranked? These kids were freshmen a year ago. I'm guessing about 20% of them started last year?
August 12th, 2014 at 8:10 AM ^
24/7 needs to slow down with this mess
August 12th, 2014 at 12:37 PM ^
FWIW, their number one player, Dylan Moses, barely saw any playing time his freshman year due to upperclassmen and injuries. Just goes to show the weakness of these rankings thus far.
August 12th, 2014 at 1:23 PM ^
Yeah, but I heard he was Mr. Thug Nasty in Pee Wee. DOMINATION.
