Submitted by Brady Elliott on

Slow day on the board so I looked at the 2016 schedules for the top 3 BIG10 east teams. Who has the easiest path to big ten title and/or the playoff?

I hope the formatting is readable. Posted on phone so apologize for original post. thanks to west quad as I figured out the

MOD EDIT - Thank you, M-Dog, for the save. - LSA

Michigan
 9/24 Penn State
 10/1 Wisconsin
 10/15 Bye
 10/29 at MSU
 11/12 at Iowa
 11/26 at OSU

Michigan State:
 9/10 Bye
 9/17 at Notre Dame
 9/24 Wisconsin
 10/8 BYU
 10/29 Michigan
 11/19 OSU
 11/26 at Penn State

Ohio State:
 9/17 at Oklahoma
 9/24 Bye
 10/15 at Wisconsin
 10/22 at Penn State
 11/5 Nebraska
 11/19 at MSU
 11/26 Michigan

General Observations - Michigan has the clear edge in ease of games in OOC scheduling but travels to OSU and MSU with a tricky game at Iowa for a cross over.

Michigan’s bye is perhaps best if you desire a mid-season bye to heal up and regroup.

OSU plays at Oklahoma in their OOC and plays both Wisconsin and Nebraska in their cross over games.

MSU plays both Notre Dame and BYU in OOC and Wisconsin in their cross over. Gets to play Michigan and OSU at home.

(Sidenote - So both MSU and Michigan play their biggest BIG10 east rivals home or away on varying years. Why Delaney? Why?)

Commonalities – All play each other, Penn State, Indiana, Rutgers, and Maryland.

Hopefully, M-Dog, you don't mind that used your version to usurp the OP's version so that people can get the much more legible formatting right from the beginning. Good save on this one, and I did give you proper credit above.

It should serve as a reminder that posting tabular information or lists straight from a phone sometimes does not end well.

Ohio State and Michigan State both skip Iowa...Ohio State gets us in Columbus...Michigan State gets both Michigan and Michigan State in East Lansing...but we have the easiest path to winning the BIG (which is the only way to guarantee making the playoffs)...ok got it...great post.

After UM won the '69 OSU game, the team presented the game ball to Elliott, and Schembechler noted that, "I don't remember when I felt happier about anything in life." Will Brady be our next Bump?

A lock to be in Big Ten Championship Game if M has only one loss in Big Ten.  OSU loses a game in conference and loses to OU away.  MSU will have down year.  No chance for PSU/Maryland/IU/Rutgers.

to be 7-0 heading into rivalry week in EL. So again, I see that as the most pivotal game of the season in terms of the grandest expectations for next season, winning the conference and going to Indianapolis. The first half of the season is easiest for the Wolverines than the other contenders with no real threats in out of conference matchups which are all at home.

That should give O'Korn time to get his game together before facing the Spartans and the first in a stretch of brutal road tests with Iowa and, of course, the Buckeyes. The key is to build on the foundation of winning early so that confidence and execution is climaxing when most required in the late season. A dynamic take-no-prisoners defense, which this team will field next year, ought to be scary enough for any opponent, but when combined with a methodical offense with sudden quick strike ability on the outside, ought to make the Wolverines an early national title contender.

I expect this team to be very special given the makeup and emotional personality of this roster molded in the Harbaugh mindset and operating out of Brown's pressure defense.

The OP is unreadable. Illegible. If you're going to put up a table or a list, please don't post from your phone. Just don't.

Now, to my way of thinking, it would make sense to have two tables.

The first table would have dates down the side, with a column for UM, MSU, and OSU, and unique opponent for each combination of date and column.

The second table would have teams down the side, with a column for UM, MSU, and OSU, and the unique date for each combination of opponent vs. M, MSU, & OSU.

It appears that you arbitrarily chose opponents of each which were "worthy," along with including the bye date. You have 5 opponents listed for Michigan, and 6 opponents each for MSU and OSU, respectively adding ND and OK.

The commonalities is kind of trite:  every team in the East Division plays every other team in the East Division. Perhaps the hardest scheduling I see is that OSU faces two tough teams (MSU and UM) back to back, week to week.

OSU actually has a good OOC schedule as well.  UM's isn't exactly what I would call tough.  I like when we play a tough OOC schedule since it gives us something early to weigh ourselves on as well as a moral point to hold over rivals heads (I'm positive OSU and MSU scheduled high school teams last year).  That said, I'm good with us taking a year off and sliding into the B1G season with some good warm up times.

The real sleeper hazard, I think, is M at Iowa (well, to the extent that last season's Rose Bowl team can be considered a sleeper). The Hawkeyes will likely be good enough. Most pre-season polls, for what they're worth, have Iowa solidly in the Top 20. And Kinnick is always a tough place to play. Michigan hasn't fared well there in years. And this year's game will no doubt be a night game, which makes things trickier.
