2016 Football Ticket Prices (stubhub)
So, I was just checking Stubhub for ticket prices to a few games and with that I have a couple questions to ask you guys.
I know there is a lot of hype and excitment around this years team and that might be partially why some ticket prices are higher than previous years, but is there any reason the Penn State and Wisconsin games are listed so high? PSU starts at $165 and Wisconsin at $125.
Yes, I understand those are big games. PSU is the conference opener and we haven't played Wisconsin in awhile. So maybe that is another reason for higher prices. To be honest, I thought prices we're jacked up for those games because they we're thought to be potential night games and people we're basing their value off of that, but once night games got the boot this year I was thinking they would fall to a more reasonable level...
I'm wanting to buy tickets to the Wisconsin game and I don't know if I should buy now or wait until closer to the season?
Any advice out there for buying tickets?
(I mostly use stubhub because I'm familar with the site and have never had any problems getting my tickets)
I personally would wait. More will be posted as more people get their tix, especially students
Did you not learn anything from the Ticket Watch posted on the front page of this blog last Fall?
wait, wait, wait it out
Wait it out. The three game ticket packages and singles are about to go on sale and have those games included. Prices will come down when more tickets hit the market.
Face value on those tickets will probably be around $100+ so it really isn't all that high, not to mention there won't be very many left for those 2 games once single game tickets go on sale to the public.
I've been doing this ever since I graduated college. Just buy off scalpers the day of the game.
You can usually find some pretty reasoably priced tickets, sometimes even cheaper than average becuase some people just want to get rid of them.
The closer to game time it gets, the lower the price drops in most cases.
Your mileage may vary, but my last experience with Stubhub was amazing. I had looked for tix to the 2013 Iowa game at Iowa City, and there was nothing available in the months leading to the game with a reasonable price. Then, as it became clear it was going to be about 17 degrees that day, ticket prices started to drop. After my wife said that there was no way she was going to freeze her ass off, I looked one more time on the Thursday before the game. And lo, there was a single $80 ticket for a great seat at about the 45 yardline.
Point is, wait, if you can due to logistics. There is always someone trying to dump tix nearing game day.
Talking stubhub prices in May is essentially pointless.
Wait until the day of the game. Only time this didn't work for me was UTL 1.

I'm looking to buy 3 tix to the Maryland game. just in case anyone out there...
You will be just fine flying in. There will be plenty of instant download tickets on stubhub and scalpers out there selling as well.
Part of the reason is that the amount you pay Stubhub is not the amount the seller receives. People will consciously mark up prices in order to cover seller fees (as well as make a profit).
"The waiting is the hardest part...every day you get one more yard"
In prior years, I would have totally agreed with those who are saying to wait it out. One major difference now- Harbaugh. This team will be highly ranked, and probably undefeated going into the Penn State game. Add to that the higher number of season ticket sales, and the supply of tickets may dry up for those games quickly. You may still do OK by waiting to buy, but it's not the sure thing that it's been in prior years, IMHO.
Having said that, I don't find those prices that outrageous depending upon where the seats are located and whether a pair (normally pricier), or a single (should be cheaper). Also consider that many of the people with season tix, are paying the seat license on top of the price for the tickets. Wisconsin is the first Big game- and we SHOULD be undefeated then, so hype and enthusiasm should be high.
Penn State tickets will be much, much, much lower.
Wisconsin, may not drop that much, but it's probably still smart to wait.
Only way Wisconsin prices will stay steady or rise is if the Badgers beat LSU (opening day) and Michigan State (Sept. 24th in East Lansing) before they get to Ann Arbor. Assuming we'd be undefeated, that would be a top 10 matchup between two programs with large fanbases that haven't played in 6 years.
