2015 non student season ticket prices not going up..... or down.

Submitted by Bosch on

My apologies if discussed previously as I know that redundancy is akin to the apocalypse around here.

Season football ticket holders were resently sent solicitations via both email and regular mail for 2015 seat donations.  I had not seen an announcement for 2015 ticket prices and since I'm on the fence for renewing, I replied to the email message and asked if season prices were set.

Ticket office response:

Thank you for your support of Michigan Athletics and the 931 student-athletes wearing the Block M. Season ticket prices will remain at $455/ticket ($65/game) for the 2015 season.

Ticket prices versus value has been discussed ad nauseum here so I'll refrain from ranting.  I will say that I do expect a pretty decent turn over in season tickets purchases next year.  There will be some non renewals from those who no longer feel that the product validates the price.  However, it is an attractive home schedule so there will be some new interest, especially if we land a certain coach.

My grandma has been a season ticket holder for over 50 years and she said this was the first time she considered not renewing them. However even after this season she will be renewing them and hoping for a good change in the coaching regime like the rest of us!

!) The schedule is MUCH better next year with OSU and MSU at home, so even if the price stays the same that's a much better value for the price

2) It's probably too late to completely change pricing structure for the next year anyway, especially given that the AD has much more important things to worry about at the moment and has a lot of buyouts on the table  to take care of, as well as hiring decisions.

If the Michigan fanbase really wants to be top tier, they may have to live with these prices. I don't think there will be a significant drop in season ticket buyers if the next coach is in any way exciting...fans will come back and want to see what he does in year one with honestly a pretty good roster, talent-wise.

If dynamic pricing was actually legit they could charge about 100 for the State and Ohio State games, maybe $30-40 for the Oregon State and BYU games, probably $50 for Rutgers since that will be homecoming and then $20 tops for the rest of the games.

Of all the stupid things Brandon did his failure to do shit about the schedule always made me the most mad. He either drove away or did nothing to hang onto the ND rivalry, and he let Delany walk all over us moving the State game to even years. Ticket prices this year should have been half what they were in 2013 because of how bad the schedule is even if the team was better. We had one rivalry game (such that it is) at home with Minnesota.

PSD in amateur athletics in almost unconscionable.  Football ticket holders always foot the bill, never rowing or tennis season ticket holders.  Yet those athletes get the same full ride.

I think most people will re-up just because logic holds Michigan SHOULD get better at some point, and the home slate next year is way more appealing.  Secondary market might differ, but you can't beat $65/seat for OSU and MSU in the same year.

If we hire a winner, too bad if we lose at Utah to open the season. That loss would be on Brady for not preparing ANYONE to be the starter next year. As long as the team is better later in the season and can beat one or both MSU and OSU all is well.

2016? Therein lies the challenge. Hire a dufus like Schiano and see those numbers dip into the 90s like we saw pre-1975 except for the big games.

What I'm expecting (but with NO true "pay back" or refund for this awful 2-yr stretch) is some form of "apology" letter to season tix holders from Schlissel and Hackett after Hoke is dumped. The recognition of season tix holders in the stands and allowing fans to enter the field after the game last weekend (not that anyone stayed around after that debacle) shows someone knows the fan base has been alienated.

We need to pay for the new coach somehow. Everyone will complain like crazy if we don't get Harbaugh but people still complain if the price isn't decreasing. You can't have one without the other.

Alabama Has Far Fewer Sports
They only have 400 student athletes and Michigan has 930. Both programs run about the same profit per year. Michigan has about 30M$ per year in higher expenses for the additional sports. Apples and oranges. Bama is a football heavy program.

Me and my buddy have sat together for the last 18 years, each with a pair of season tickets, but we're both calling it quits.  Too much $$.  Too easy to use the secondary market.  The PSL is outrageous.  The even years schedules are terrible.  The game day experience is.....blah.  I'm confident Hackett is going to make a good hire, but equally as confident the days of ticket scarcity at Stadium and State are over.

If Brandon were back and held the line on ticket prices, we'd be passing out pitchforks and torches. Amiright?
