I really cannot think of any reason why I would want to be outdoors watching a football game in the dark in Ann Arbor at the end of November. Much less tailgating all freaking day in said Ann Arbor weather. Bad idea.

Can you explain how Green Bay, NE, NYJ, NYG, and Chicago can play night games in January?

Those teams play in the middle of a parking lot, with plenty of easy highway connections. A football Saturday puts a significant strain on A2's transportation infrastructure - the majority of fans are parking on lawns or on the golf course, with a significant number parking a ways away and walking to the game. Which meansthere'd be heavy foot traffic as well as vehicle traffic - a public safety nightmare in the ice and snow. Recall that recently the NFL delayed a game in Philadelphia by 24 hours - from Sunday Night to Monday Night - because of concerns about how the city and fans would handle the snow. And this is also a stadium in the middle of a parking lot, just off the interstate.
I'm not saying it can't be done, but there are concerns for a college football game that don't exist for most NFL stadiums (stadia?).

The transportation infrastucture is the same regardless of the time in which the game is played and most major universities have the same stadium issues. They seem to get by just fine with their prime time games. As far as the ice and snow, its November, not January.

Your reasons are why this won't happen, as unpopular as that sounds to some.

About 12 years ago in 2002 I believe, the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party (Georgia v Florida in Jacksonville), a traditional afternoon 3:30pm kickoff, was moved to a night kickoff at around 8pm. Everyone I talked to said it was a great idea and added to the intensity and atmosphere around the game. I'm sure there were some altercations but how can you really avoid that when 80,000 people who disagree on something are packed into one place?

Been to night games all over the country and I've never seen the drunken mob that some people are convinced will happen if Michigan dares to play after dark.
Personally, I like being able to tailgate during the afternoon. It's easier to fire up the smoker in the morning and cook all day rather than starting late the night before.

Spartan fans would turn Ann Arbor to rubble. The 3:30pm games are bad enough. Spartans do not know how to hold their liquor. I would be happy if every MSU game was 12pm.

Braylonfest.
Hell, we've already played MSU at night once before, right?

I don't care if we play MSU at night...OSU should always be a day game.

I know full well what time it started (I was there).
Cumong, man. Was trying to make a (half) funny.

LSU plays at night all the time, and we know how rowdy those Cajuns get. I think it would be great. There are plenty of intense rivalry games played at night, why should B1G games be any different?
As far as potential candidates for a night game next year, I could see either Michigan State or Ohio State, with BYU as a dark horse if both teams are unbeaten in the early part of the season.

i would like msu but since it is harbaugh first game i have to say os. i think they will play a better game. same for msu. so if i had to pick i would take ohio

Utah will be a night game in 2015
February 1st, 2015 at 5:08 PM ^
My guess is it will be an 8pm eastern time kick, which is 6pm MT. I guess technically that is still a night game.

MSU maybe, but OSU, no way for me. My lungs couldn't take that cold night air. My lung health is very bad now that I have COPD, and I CAN NOT and WILL NOT promise my wife I would kept my mouth shut and remain quiet during the game and not suck in that cold air. :)

probably within the next 5 years...osu at night
I would prefer that one stay as a nooner, but it would be a blast at night
MSU should be a night game starting this season

For some reason, I thought this was the "game-that-cannot-named-unless-you're-an-NBC-affiliate" thread LOL

Picture a night-game scenario in Ann Arbor, down the road in a few years, where Michigan and OSU are going at it as two undefeated teams.
Sure, it might be borderline psycho-crazy...but that atmosphere would be off the chain, to use the parlance of our times.
Do I necessarily WANT a Michigan-OSU night game? I'm not gonna go that far. I'm just saying.
February 1st, 2015 at 8:35 PM ^
Before I even clicked the link I thought, why not ohio???
It cannot be msu. Those dregs of humanity will destroy Ann Arbor after a full day of drinking.
