While I see progress, the competition has been relatively weak.  Still not buying some of the optimism that others are showing. OSU is a BAD team.  Still not a lot of quality coming before we meet MSU.

That being said, it's good to wake up on Sunday with something to be happy about.

I saw some progress...in fact, I feel like a handle on the team.

Rudock is exactly what he was at Iowa. He's a game manager and when he has time - he's lights out. He's VERY good on the short/intermediate throws he's not as good down field. When he's pressured, he's a below average QB.

I also don't think he trusts his OL. He had a BAD case of the yips in the first half and never got comfortable.

IMO, we just have to baby him with the playcalling and he'll be fine - he's not a playmaker - but if you call the right plays he's not going to lose you the game either. He should be fine.

-------

Smith is a beast and I saw that in game 1 - people overreated too much to the missed holes, but there were really only 2 of them. It felt like more, but he doesn't have the speed to get to some of the holes people think are holes. He's much better off just using his momentum and strength and running someone over than trying to get an edge where they may be a hole. That said, the 2 holes he missed - crucial.

Yesterday he was beast mode against a bad defense. I think the Utah RB will do the exact same thing...he and Smith looked almost identical to me.

I STILL think Isaac and Green are more talented, but they need space and running lanes. Something we're not going to have a lot of this year, IMO. Especially not against good teams. For me it's simple...when we're not blocking - Smith is our best option (mixed with Johnson when healthy). When we're blocking...play all 4.

-------

WRs are better than I thought they'd be...but Chesson is awful to adjusting to the ball in the air and Perry still makes too many freshman mistakes. I hope we see more of Harris and Canteen against UNLV

-------

I said Butt was the best TE in college football - I didn't do any research to back that claim...but I still believe it.

-------

Better - weak opponent. Braden could start for OSU =)

-------

Chris Wormley is a beast and he and Henry are RVB/Mike Martin 2.0 --- the DL is FUN to watch, I know Mattison is extremely proud of those guys. He called it. He said they just needed one more year to put it together and they've done it. They'd be unfair with Mone on the DL.

-------

LB are consistent, but no athleticism - very little playmaking. Need more playmaking. I miss healthy Jake Ryan.

-------

Still not sold on Stribling or Clark. Both were very shaky at times. This spring I'd move Peppers back to CB just to work becoming a blanket CB, then move him back to his current position over the summer/fall. If he can just get a touch better in coverage - he'll be ELITE. That hit was insane.

-------

Safties are just like the LBs.

That's how you'll beat MSU.  Their LBs are still suspect and their secondary is not what it was in previous years.  If they can spread them out with throws to the WRs and TEs, that should slow down the pass rush and free up some rushing lanes when we do run.  I liked the early down passing yesterday and hope we keep it up.

Michigan will improve through the year. I'm not really worried about our schedule. As bad as we were against Utah, we still were in a position to win, on the road, in the first game of the year. Between now and Sparty we don't have a real test. Maybe BYU or Northwestern at home, but still plenty of time to iron out any kinks and get some momentum.

Collectively, we don't tell you how much we love you as often as we should.

Thanks for posting these.

And we love you.

And hell, that goes for the rest of you as well (except, you know, that one guy)
