Submitted by MaizenBlue93 on

After body slamming a security guard at Cass Tech High School last month, Jayru Campbell was charged with two counts of assault today.

Are you really comparing Burbridge and Evans' academic issues to what Campbell did? I've never seen someone go to jail for failing math class.

FWIW, a bunch of QBs have been on unofficial visits to EL lately. I don't see Campbell signing with MSU, thankfully.

Dantonio took chances in the past but he doesn't need to anymore.  He's built a strong program and has shown that he can get the most out of his players through solid coaching, even when they're not highly touted recruits.  He has Connor Cook and Damien Terry after that and he can get just as good of a recruit as Campbell without the headache.

The uneven playing field is not from a lack of talent but rather our coaching.  Dantonio gets 2 and 3 stars and coaches them up to play like 5 stars.  We get 4 and 5 stars and complain about them playing like 3 stars.

Seriously, how can anyone look at our past recruiting classes and MSU's and say MSU's level of talent  is uneven because MSU takes chances? Our classes are literally stacked with highly touted players.

Someone on reddit was claiming the guard was following him throughout the day and taunting him which made him snap. Fwiw. He had weak sources but I thought I'd just throw it out there in case anyone wants to investigate further.

I saw this the other day (kind of a tables are turned type of thing)

The difference being that the inmate died, and the cop in THIS video is awaiting sentence, while Campbell narrowly avoided a fate worse than death(playing football for Staee)

I was struck by the similarities between this and the Campbell video. Kid is lucky the cop is okay. Not to be a jerk, but if I hadn't told you that the guy died would you have thought it was worse than the Campbell video?

I hope MSU takes him, I believe that Malzone is much better than Campbell and wouldn't wanna see Malzone in EL.

For Jayru, and for Sparty.

When someone refers to Frank Clark as a "felon," you can correct them because under the HYTA, Frank Clark is not a felon.  He completed his year under the Act, and no record of conviction was entered.

Jayru would likely qualify;  there would be good reason to put him into the program, and I suspect there'd be a good chance of his completing it successfully, with lots of attention.  I am not aware of Jayru's having any other sort of a record.

By the fall of 2015, Jayru could be out of the program with no felony record.

"Two counts" of assault is a bit of a puzzlement to me; anybody know exactly why two counts?  (They might work a plea as to just one count.  I am not sure as to whether "two counts" might disqualify HYTA application.)

He's not being "tried" as anything, yet.

He's been booked, and a charge of assault has been referred to the Wayne County Prosecutor's office.  He'll be arraigned (a pro forma proceeding at which he will say nothing) in the 36th District Court.  Only then -- probably in a few weeks -- will they talk about a preliminary exam, a plea, a trial, etc.  Everybody gets charged, all the same.  Adults and utes.

The big problem now for Jayru is that he'll be looking at a "no contact" order with anybody involved in the case.  Routine, in an assault case.  He is suspended from school, and I expect he's going to stay suspended and maybe through the end of the school year.  At that point, Jayru ain't come to play school or football.  His standing as an athlete and a member of any school's 2015 class gets a little wierd by then.

I am surprised the guard wasn't seriously hurt. Did he have any major injuries? Kid is lucky he didn't kill the guy by breaking his neck or crack his head open on that tile floor. The reaction of the kids is what made me sick to my stomach. I was young once too but I don't know if I would be that excited about what just happened.

Open head wound is where the skull is... opened. Closed head wound is where the skull is... wait for it...Closed. An open, bleeding cut is a laceration. There is quite a difference. Your response was actually quite ignorant and it pains me you got up-voted and that an appropriate response got down-voted.

I hate situations like this. My instant gut reaction is to assume the kid is a thug who needs to get what's coming to him. Then I think and read about it and I find out that he's had a pretty rough upbringing with a broken family life. I find myself oscillating between thinking kids like this are good-for-nothings who just got lucky that they were blessed with natural talents and thinking he might be a great kid trying to prevail over the circumstances of a broken family, poverty, and thug culture. He seems to be embracing thug culture instead of running from it, and unless he drastically changes course, he's bound to fail.

I think he is a first timer in the system and will get off relatively easy.

I think he has an attitude problem.  If he doesn't fix it right now his big breaks in life will dry up

quickly.  Its sad. .

Is still in school. He should have been expelled thus his worries about what college he is going to attend would be a moot point. I believe in second chances but that assault was really bad.

He is suspended from Cass Tech.  Has been, since the day it happened, I think.

As for being expelled, I think that only the University of Michigan expels student-athletes for alleged crimes without anything being proven against them in a court of law.  Oh and Xavier too.  And Xavier might just have a hard lesson to learn, in civil court.

TVH isn't an expert nor does he know a thing about violent behavior. Not sure why the tv station ia going to him for comments on a kid that has some serious anger management issues and not sure why he even attempted to answer. Maybe because he was the only one to take the TV reporters up on their questions when others wouldn't and rightfully so. It's not about recruiting but the psychological/mental make up of a kid. The kid is a ticking time bomb and his coaches are not the answer in this case. If MSU is smart, they will rescind the offer and wash their hands of this kid. And how do I know this? I deal with this type of issue day in and day out. This behavior is very difficult to correct as it typically is deeply rooted. Hell, his mom even knows it. The kid needs therapy and lots of it.

But then again,  is this the type of player Larry Foote thinks Michigan needs to be successful?

He punched that kid in line after the football game??? I was more disturbed with how he acted after, he acted like a 6 year old kid throwing a temper tantrum.

Go to YARDBARKER.COM and check out his act after. Kid is screaming and pulling away from his coach and running away, the kid drops to the ground and just lays there when the adults are there on him. I am so glad that MICHIGAN said thanks but no thanks to this kid!!!

Looks like Detroit's pulpit pimps are out in full force defending him.

The guy could easily be paralyzed or dead.  I don't get how assault with intent to do great bodily harm is excessive.  They're trying to garner public sympathy, I get that, but no one is going to buy that.  This wasn't a push or a shove.  Change the way the guy's head hits the ground and he's paralyzed or dead.  As to the officer's issues at other schools...what about Jayru's other assault and battery incidents?
