Gotta pull the offer. Sucks for them, big time recruit, but that was a troubling incident. That wasn't Marcus Smart level of aggression, that was attempt to injure. I don think it is worth it to them to take that chance. They have too much positive momentum to go with a wild card in that regard.

Not sure he was a "big time recruit." He had one big program offer in Notre Dame. I feel like you need at least a couple high profile offers to be a big time recruit.

I think a lot of programs saw reasons to be concerned.

Ask Nussmeier what about the Bama offer?  Since the kid is a recruit, it's not like Nussmeier can say anything.

Unless you know something that you'd like to share...

I guess it's sort of possibly ok that Sparty didn't cut him loose until he was at least charged. you could make the argument about sticking up for your guys until all the facts come out. That said, now that charges have been filed they need to cut the cord and every day they don't rubs off worse on them. Further, why the hell hasn't Cass Tech expelled him.

I actually hope they keep him provided he is able to graduate. I would like to see him get an automatic redshirt and the support he needs to straighten out everything in his life.
What he did was absolutely wrong but I think we (society) give up on people too fast. Give him that redshirt and make him keep his nose clean.

you have raised a couple of questions....

1. why do you think Michigan State University's football program is a place that he will get the "support he need to straighten out everything in his life"?

2. Why do you think we give up too fast? Didn't Michael Vick get a second chance after serving prison time? Didn't Ray Lewis continue to play after his homicide related charges? Didn't Riley Cooper continue to play despite racist comments? How about Roethlisberger and his multiple reported sexual misconducts?

i don't know maybe its just me

I think it was Channel 4 that said something about how per MSU's admissions policy, a felony conviction - if that happened in the end (obviously, there's been no trial or anything) - would not necessarily prevent his admission into the university per se. The representative had no comment on the scholarship situation, which makes sense since that's not what he was there to discuss. That, and MSU cannot comment - by rule, I think - unless there is an LOI involved. As Campbell is only a verbal commit, the Spartans could find - if they desired - a way to say "Thanks, but no thanks" at any moment without directly addressing the situation.

I'm pretty certain they pulled his offer immediately. Hopefully this young man can learn to control his anger issues and doesn't completely throw away his chance at a scholarship somewhere.

I'm a bit torn on the situation, 'cause I hate the entire green existence of sparty, but I also hate when a kid who probably doesn't have a better backup plan at this point shits the bed like this. of course, the kid's still young, so it's not the end of the world, but pulling the rug out from under his own feet isn't the best way to get started.

If he really does learn from this and has somewhat of a decent head on his shoulders he can go JUCO route or something and if the talent is really there he can work his way back up to a D-1 level.  This is not an easy route at all but like you say, he's young enough he can make something of himself, still.  (It was a terrible thing to do, though.  I've not much sympathy as it is.)

And not just some random security guard in a video? I don't have too much sympathy for Jayru. He was the offender and the guard was victimized. I have worked in a school and it's tough to not respect these guards. I hope Jayru gets counseling help, but a free college ride seems a bit generous at this point.

MSU will still take him. Dantonio isn't stupid and likes to win. You will see, and our staff will say we are better than that in private. F it pains me playing with a handicap always. We need to go after this kid to help him in life.

It takes getting the top athletes, and we don't have the pull to say no and still win. I hate to say it, but we aren't Bama or ohio. We don't have a kid nearly as good waiting. He was given the red carpet by Saban. The last time I checked he was a tad better evaluating talent then our coaches. I get it "we are young", but we have been for 7 years. We can't be picky. We need to take some JuCos and some risks. I just want to see the team win, and don't care how if legal.

I guess it depends on what service you go by, but according to ESPN Gardner, Morris, and Speight are all better than Campbell.  Morris had a Bama offer, Speight had a Miami offer, etc.

or is ever going to be as a program or as a university. As an aside, do you really care if what we do to win is legal? It's okay as long as we don't get caught. right?

If Hoke started taking risks with kids like this and allowed them to represent our team and our university after committing acts like this, I honestly don't think I could, in good conscience, be a fan of this team anymore. Some things are more important than winning football games, and if you think this is the only way to win at a high level, then I just feel sorry for you.

You're an idiot.  Win at what cost?  I would rather go 0-12 every freaking year than have a bunch of troublemakers on the team who are constant distractions.  Plus, as others have pointed out, there are at LEAST equal athletes out there without the baggage.

To me, Michigan has always meant more than just winning games.  I honestly think you should consider following State or Ohio.  You might be happier in that camp.

He is saying the playing field with respect to the quality of player taken is uneven. How is that an excuse? Has Dantonio disciplined a kid or two? Yeah? Does he concern himself as much with taking kids who have big questions (Burbridge, Evans, Campbell, Eric.)? Nope.

It is similar to the RichRod flyers on Demar Dorset, Pryor, Forcier etc.

I am glad you see my point and it is killing us. The mean, crazy, physical athletes sometimes have a screw loose. They get results in a violent game, and that's why Dantonio looks away.
