2015 Football Season Ticket Personal Seat Donation (PSD)

Submitted by WindyCityBlue on

Just got an emailing detailing 2015 PSD levels.  The PSD for my seats ($200/seat) did not change.  It looks like there was little (if any) change at other levels as well.  We'll see what AD does to the actual price of the tickets once seating donations have been committed.

I know some of us were curious what would happen to regular season ticket holders in light of the student ticket price reduction.

With the Good/Bad home schedules I had assumed that the AD would keep prices flat in "bad" home schedule years like 2014 and 2016, and bump them during the "good" years with MSU and OSU at home. That may still happen with ticket prices themselves, but at least the PSDs stayed flat.

Last year, the schedule looked "Bad" but hope for the team was "Good".  Weeuull, if the level of competition is any measure of the schedule for 2014, the schedule was more "Good" and the team was certainly "Bad".  How's two dreadful 16 point losses for ya?

In contrast, in terms of rivalries, the schedule is certainly "Good" for 2015.  Furthermore, it looks like the level of competitiveness will be even better, if you're into watching losses of more than 16 points.

Will Michigan secure Harbaugh or an elite coach for 2015?  There is hope, but until it actually happens, there is quite the fear of more middling-at-best coaching and results from Hoke or another middling hire.

I.e., the outlook for the team for 2015 is "Bad" in its present form.  Until that is addressed with a signed contract, there's no getting around the natural skepticism.

I remember the first time I heard of PSLs it was Al Davis screwing Raider fans. I thought it was the most obnoxious thing I'd ever heard of. Paying for the right to pay again. I can't believe how it's spread and is now the norm.

It's not done everywhere the same though.  Here in Cleveland my late Father-in-Law paid for his Browns PSL once and that was it.  Sort of like a country club membership in that he "owns" the PSL in perpetuity (he got it transferred to our name once he passed away) but you only pay once and that's it.

The Cavs, however, this year launched the "Wine & Gold" club which is very similar to the Michigan model.  I paid $38/seat for three seats in a 10 game package but before they would transfer the seats to my account I had to pay an additional $900 ($300/seat) for my "membership".  Obviously they are taking advantadge of the surge in ticket demand because it never existed before this year.

The problem Michigan has now is that they've already spent the PSL money in building projects s they can't dial it back without running out money elsewhere.  They are definitely between a rock and a hard place financially.

A PSL is different than a PSD.  A PSL is a license that you purchase - it gives you the right to purchase the season tickets.  Many pro teams have PSL's (including the Jets, Giants and Cowboys) which have been used to offset the cost of building new stadiums.  Once the useful life of the stadium has passed and there is a new stadium, there will also be a new PSL requirement.

A PSD is a donation that gives you the right to purchase the season tickets for that year.  A PSD is 80% deductible and is often used by college teams to fund their operations and non-revenue sports.

Well, PSD is also deductible since it's a donation.

PSL is transferable, but they typically decline in value from the initial price (there have been a number of case studies on Giants, Jets and Cowboys PSLs and the vast majority of seat locations have declined in value).  In addition, a key point is that the PSL is essentially worthless once they decide to go build another stadium (in other words, it is tied to the current physical stadium and not to any future stadiums).

Just paid my PSD...  Pretty expensive, but I guess it's good that we had the option to pay it this tax year to get the deduction instead of having to wait another year.

Sent an email to the athletic department and was told that season ticket prices will remain unchanged as well for the 2015 season for non-students.

Hope to upgrade in the Spring. Currently in the Blue tier. $200 per seat (closer to $120 with the tax break), same as last year. I'll keep showing up irregardless of who the coach is... but I really hope its Jim Harbaugh.
