2015 Football Season Ticket Personal Seat Donation (PSD)
Just got an emailing detailing 2015 PSD levels. The PSD for my seats ($200/seat) did not change. It looks like there was little (if any) change at other levels as well. We'll see what AD does to the actual price of the tickets once seating donations have been committed.
I know some of us were curious what would happen to regular season ticket holders in light of the student ticket price reduction.

Need a great coach next year if we are still asking PSDs.

If they are still hitting us up for full-price PSD's, they must already know we are getting Harbaugh.
It's all lining up!

Then they'll need to lower it to keep the seats full, short of a Mullen/Miles/Stoops kind of hire.

Cripes - there are PSD's at Minnesota. Ain't going away.

I got excited. Nope, my 5 are still $600 per seat.
Thank you sir, may I have another!

I am waiting to see how things go. I always have donated within the year for Tax purposes, but not this time.
November 19th, 2014 at 2:27 PM ^
thankfully the deadline is January 31st so we should know who the coach will be well before then.

My couch also remained unchanged at $0 per seat.

Hell, if you look underneath the cushions you'll probably come out ahead on the deal.
November 19th, 2014 at 11:08 AM ^
Endzone section is still 75 per seat....

Yep, received the PSD Renewal email for all 3 major sports. May have to dump one of them this time. Hmmm...which one...?
November 19th, 2014 at 11:47 AM ^
Prob football if I were you. Basketball and Hockey arenas are smaller so if you have good seats, they are harder to come by.
November 19th, 2014 at 1:46 PM ^
My cheapest PSD (football endzone) has the worst product. My most expensive (hockey club seats) has 2nd best/worst product and then Basketball has great seats and great product. F' it, I'll keep them all and get a home equity loan to cover them. I hate PSD time.
November 19th, 2014 at 1:57 PM ^
Great, now you get to deduct interest on the home equity loan and your PSD contributions. :P

With the Good/Bad home schedules I had assumed that the AD would keep prices flat in "bad" home schedule years like 2014 and 2016, and bump them during the "good" years with MSU and OSU at home. That may still happen with ticket prices themselves, but at least the PSDs stayed flat.
November 19th, 2014 at 11:33 AM ^
I'm not sure that we are at a point where we can say having msu and osu at home is a "good" year. *sigh*
Hopefully Señor Harbaugh will change that.
November 19th, 2014 at 11:40 AM ^
Last year, the schedule looked "Bad" but hope for the team was "Good". Weeuull, if the level of competition is any measure of the schedule for 2014, the schedule was more "Good" and the team was certainly "Bad". How's two dreadful 16 point losses for ya?
In contrast, in terms of rivalries, the schedule is certainly "Good" for 2015. Furthermore, it looks like the level of competitiveness will be even better, if you're into watching losses of more than 16 points.
Will Michigan secure Harbaugh or an elite coach for 2015? There is hope, but until it actually happens, there is quite the fear of more middling-at-best coaching and results from Hoke or another middling hire.
I.e., the outlook for the team for 2015 is "Bad" in its present form. Until that is addressed with a signed contract, there's no getting around the natural skepticism.
November 19th, 2014 at 11:27 AM ^
They have until the end of January to hire a home run of there will be a mass exodus.

I'm glad they didn't raise it considering that next year's schedule is so much better.

I remember the first time I heard of PSLs it was Al Davis screwing Raider fans. I thought it was the most obnoxious thing I'd ever heard of. Paying for the right to pay again. I can't believe how it's spread and is now the norm.
November 19th, 2014 at 12:14 PM ^
One of the most Orwellian things ever. Blindly ripping you off and then branding it as some knid of personal right you have to pay for.
And everyone bought into it like it's the norm.
November 19th, 2014 at 12:41 PM ^
It's not done everywhere the same though. Here in Cleveland my late Father-in-Law paid for his Browns PSL once and that was it. Sort of like a country club membership in that he "owns" the PSL in perpetuity (he got it transferred to our name once he passed away) but you only pay once and that's it.
The Cavs, however, this year launched the "Wine & Gold" club which is very similar to the Michigan model. I paid $38/seat for three seats in a 10 game package but before they would transfer the seats to my account I had to pay an additional $900 ($300/seat) for my "membership". Obviously they are taking advantadge of the surge in ticket demand because it never existed before this year.
The problem Michigan has now is that they've already spent the PSL money in building projects s they can't dial it back without running out money elsewhere. They are definitely between a rock and a hard place financially.
November 19th, 2014 at 12:52 PM ^
Back in town and still screwing Clevelanders.
Also, if you buy the "Wine and Gold" club package, make sure there is Wine. or Gold. I'm sensing there's neither.

A PSL is different than a PSD. A PSL is a license that you purchase - it gives you the right to purchase the season tickets. Many pro teams have PSL's (including the Jets, Giants and Cowboys) which have been used to offset the cost of building new stadiums. Once the useful life of the stadium has passed and there is a new stadium, there will also be a new PSL requirement.
A PSD is a donation that gives you the right to purchase the season tickets for that year. A PSD is 80% deductible and is often used by college teams to fund their operations and non-revenue sports.
November 19th, 2014 at 2:58 PM ^
PSL = one time fee and in most cases sellable, so if there is enough demand, you can potentially sell your license to someone else and come out even or ahead.
PSD = no recurring benefit. You get bent over and violated every year.
November 19th, 2014 at 3:42 PM ^
Well, PSD is also deductible since it's a donation.
PSL is transferable, but they typically decline in value from the initial price (there have been a number of case studies on Giants, Jets and Cowboys PSLs and the vast majority of seat locations have declined in value). In addition, a key point is that the PSL is essentially worthless once they decide to go build another stadium (in other words, it is tied to the current physical stadium and not to any future stadiums).

And if anyone is unclear, Jameis can tell you how and where....
November 19th, 2014 at 11:38 AM ^
I'm waiting to what happens with the head coaching position before I renew. If Harbaugh is hired, I'm certain my PSD payment will be made same day.
November 19th, 2014 at 11:45 AM ^
Just paid my PSD... Pretty expensive, but I guess it's good that we had the option to pay it this tax year to get the deduction instead of having to wait another year.
November 19th, 2014 at 12:18 PM ^
I renewed my basketball PSD . . . but I am not renewing football until I know who the new coach will be.
November 19th, 2014 at 12:55 PM ^
Damn, this is really shaping up to be the most important M athletics personnel decision in a long, long time. Maybe ever.
November 19th, 2014 at 4:17 PM ^
Sent an email to the athletic department and was told that season ticket prices will remain unchanged as well for the 2015 season for non-students.
November 19th, 2014 at 4:19 PM ^
I'm just glad I didn't get a reply telling me to quit drinking and go to bed.
November 19th, 2014 at 5:46 PM ^
PSDs at this point are more proof that the Athletic Department remains rather piggy.

We have to pay for a good coach some way. You either have cheap tickets and a MAC coach or a Jim Harbaugh/Les Miles and expensive seats. I know which one I'll take.
