Just passing on what I hear, I make no warranty of my friend not being an idiot/wrong/confused.  He messaged me out of the blue bitching about us stealing their best recruit, I told him I'd heard Gentry decommitted and was visiting us but hadn't committed or anything.  He replied that it's a done deal from their point of view and "M is in stone."  I'm taking with many grains of salt since, as you say, it's not like this is coming from someone in the business, but I have no reason to doubt him and he has no reason to blow smoke at me about it.

biggest mistake, Russell Bellomy and Shane Morris his first 2 years. Load up on QBs to find a good one imo as a new coach, the qb will make you or get you fired in your first 3-4 years.

I thought it was Borges that fell in love with Bellomy. Hoke doesn't know how to evaluate high school QB's. Borges saw something in him....what it was I have no idea. Consider that one a recruiting "miss"

Au contraire.

Hoke's "biggest mistake" when it came to recruiting the quarterback position was not taking even a single quarterback in the 2012 class. Bellomy was a 2011 recruit, while Morris was a 2013 guy.

All the "PRO" QBs Michigan offered that year ended up transferring.

Gunner Kiel ND/LSU to Cincinnati

Connor Brewer Texas to Arizona

Jake Rodriguez Oregon to SD State

Bennie Coney Cincinnati to E. Kentucky

Looking back was 2012 a down year for QB talent? Going through the list of "PRO" QBs it looks like a wasteland. It looks like most recruits ended up transferring or was buried on the depth chart.

I don't think 2012 was a great year, but Michigan didn't cast its net wide enough. The coaches offered some guys early on, they didn't commit, and the coaches shrugged their shoulders and gave up. There are some guys from that class who have been contributing, like Tommy Armstrong (Nebraska), Travis Wilson (Utah), and Travis Knight (Oklahoma), among others.

Don't say anything that goes against the wave of praise for a new coach. New coaches are ALWAYS right.

Hoke absolutely should not have taken a QB in 2012. Hoke hiring his best buds was just fine...because, well, #chemistry.

It's the same with Harbaugh. It doesn't have to be negative, but if it's not positive...you have a ton of people negging and saying "HARBAUGH!!!!"

I will say this though, I'm not sold on the JayH, Fisch or Zordich. But at least 2 of those are not is old running mates. They're guys referred to him by people he trusts. The 3rd is his son and is in a position to greatly succeed.

It does sound like Texas WILL have their in-home visit before he leaves to come to Michigan for his visit.
