2014 PF/C Miroslav Jaksic - Next 2014 offer?

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

Per UMHoops.com, Beilein was in the house to catch Canadian-born 2014 PF/C Miroslav Jaksic of Walled Lake Western (MI). He's 6'10", a bit light at 200 lbs, but looks to have a very nice shooting touch, excellent coordination for a big man, good footwork, and decent athleticism.

He came to the U.S. as a 2013 player but has since reclassified to 2014. He's planning on spending a year at a prep school after finishing up at Walled Lake. He dropped 35 on Detroit Pershing earlier this season, goin 3-4 from behind the 3-pt line, and put up 9 pts and 11 boards against Walled Lake Northern recently. Apparently, Duke has entered the recruiting fray, and Northwestern has already offered.

Despite the reputation for shadiness that prep-schools receive, I like that Beilein seems to have a recent tendency to target prep-school players. That extra year of strength, conditioning, and growth makes recruits FAR more ready to play immediately in the B1G as we've seen so far this season.

Other season highlights here.

Dude needs to introduce himself to several dozen big macs.

But a big with range?  Would be deadly on the pick and roll with Albrecht/Walton.  Yes please.

Reminds me a bit of Smotrycz, but appears to have a much quicker release (always a problem for Smot against more athletic players), is more assertive, and has a lot more bounce.

but A LOT more bounce. He's throwing down pretty easily, I remember Smotz had trouble unless he had a couple of steps. Seems like he has better post moves than Smotz already, as well.

In any case, DO WANT

It takes time to learn how to carry 6'10" worth of body at an elite athletic level, and some of these kids don't even finish growing until they're 19-20.

I go to this high school and know the kid semi-well. Got to see Beilein at a couple of games this year too. Just my cool story bro. But the kid himself looks like he definitly has some promise. Very wet from behind the arc, but he's gotta bulk up a bit, luckily he's got a few years. Duke Assistant Coach Steve Wojciechowski was at the roundball classic a week ago to see him play DCD.
