2014 NBA Draft Open Thread
Will tonight be the first time since 1990 where Michigan has a trio of first rounders?
Will the Pistons take a Wolverine if one is available?
Will Jordan Morgan sneak in the draft?
John Beilein said he will wait out all 60 picks to see if JMo gets drafted.
You would think so, but they didn't even qualify for this year's World Cup.
Cavs are going to take Wiggins, I think. There's no way they take Embiid. Their fanbase is in borderline full meltdown mode, with Bennett last year, the Kyrie wanting out rumors, and the Dion and Kyrie hate each other and have had fist fights in the locker room reports. They can't afford to take an injured guy with medical questions on top of all that.
How can my Cavs screw this up?
Now all they need is a SF who can score...
LeBron can do that.
Canada, man.
Are belong to us
...I'm sure he's loving going to Milwaukee.
That's the correct pick...how could the Cavs not select Joel "Greg Oden" Embiid?
They could still trade Wiggins for other picks. There were rumors they might do just that.
Anything is possible.
Canada is developing a strong youth basketball program
Good for them
Stauskas, Wiggins, Bennett, et cetera
Who do you guys think the Pistons take at #9? Oh wait....
/ZING
/Weeps
I've heard the Pistons were calling around possibly trying to buy a draft pick late in the 1st round because they're one of a few teams who have the money to do that.
Remind me again how Charlotte ended up with Detroit's pick
Seriously I do not know as I do not follow the NBA
Detroit traded Ben Gordon and a future 1st round pick for Corey Maggette in what amounted to a salary dump a few years ago.
The pick was top 8 protected, meaning if it was in the top 8 the Pistons would keep it, and of course Cleveland won the lottery, and pushed Detroit's pick from 8 to 9, so they lost it.
They were going to eventually lose the pick regardless, but it hurt that it happened this year.
Long story short, the Ben Gordon trade.
Thanks, Joe.
'nuff said
I simply found it refreshing that Silver was greeted with cheers for the most part and that fans have found a more targeted approach to expressing their displeasure with specific aspects of the NBA. That is to say, the fact that Cleveland won the lottery and had the #1 pick was greeted with a nice non-verbal way to tell the lottery to go to hell.
Mostly for being a disingenous SOB
Parker is going to be the pick for Milwaukee. It'll be interesting see what happens with the 76ers at 3. If they don't take Embiid he could fall a little bit.
How high is Embiid? The fuck was that reaction..
I think he had his heart set on LA.
Or he got a text from his agent that said "cheer the fuck up, NOW."
Bilas finally acknowledged it.
"Enjoy your favorite beverage, there will be more to come later" after saying wingspan...
Grew to like a little now that he isn't crying about his Duke buddy being fired.
The 76ers are totally gaming the system, man. They'll probably have a top 3 pick next year, too.
Should be an interesting team to watch over the next few years.
Sixers draft Sam Bowie. Err....
This is going to be the interesting part of the draft. The big 3 are off the board and basically went chalk.
Now there is a cluster of guys (Exum, Randle, Vonleh, Gordon, Smart, Stauskas, Payton) and it seems like all of the draft gurus have no clue how this will shake down.
Wow. That's kind of a surprise. Gordon at 4.
Dante Exum seemed like the choice there...they have no PG and Oladipo isn't the answer.
Jimmy Darmody Sighting!
I've heard Dante Exum, which might not be great for Burke's future with the Jazz.
Utah has to go big don't they?
Could take Exum for trade bait.
People are saying Dante Exum is headed to Utah....
I'm sure the team would call him first so he still should have looked more excited.
5. Vonleh - Jazz
6. Randle - Celtics
7. Exum - Lakers
8. Smart - Kings
9. McDermott/Stauskas - Hornets
10. McDermott/Stauskas - 76ers
Burke is not going to prevent the Jazz from drafting Dante Exum.
Via Andy Katz on the ESPN.com twitter feed.
Andy Katz: "Source: Utah Jazz will take Dante Exum at No. 5. Trey Burke told me here he would be a great fit for them, can play either guard."
I stand corrected...Exum to the Jazz
Just saying.
Does Exum really fit well with Burke in Utah? Or is there only room for one of them?
Both of them are slightly interchangeable on offense (Burke can shoot, Exum can pass it) so it's worth taking a gamble to see what kind of guard Exum can develop into.
None of those teams won anything...
