2014 Final Four Open Thread
Connecticut vs. Florida
followed by
Kentucky vs. Wisconsin
because they underachieved all year and now have played 3 good weeks of basketball. That irritates me.
Well CBB sucks now, at least I'm cresting 2000 points. Bang me.
Well ...a UConn v Kentucky final is far better than a Duke v North Carolina final, barely.
(and a great coach)
but he has much more class than Izzo.
people try to pretend like - as good as that game was - that the level of play isn't completely different than it was back in the early 90's.
Those were grown ass men waiting once you advanced in the tourney.
is that the fab 5 played pretty basketball. this was just, "hey, I'm stronger than you, so I will bull rush you out of the way and throw up a disgusting shot that I'm good enough to make go in 30% of the time, and the other 20% of the time I'll get a whistle."
that people try to pretend like the teams weren't way way way better back in the early 90's?
There's just no comparison. You look at that Duke team that won a championship beating Butler? That team would have gotten HOUSED by any of those teams back in the day.
I think this Kentucky team has players who are way stronger and faster than any of the players on teams from the 90s--that's just what 20 years of technology will do. An 18 year-old Randle is probably as strong as many of the strongest PFs in the league in the 90s.
Edit: I also think the fact that UConn, a young ass team, decisively knocked off a powerhouse, senior-laden Florida team, kind of refutes your point.
two rounds back in the day. The teams were just better.
UConn is led by a senior Napier.
Randle is a big load, but he would be dwarfed by Webber, who was an insane man-child.
I think players were just BIGGER and their games were way more refined because there were no one and dones.
You saw what Kaminsky did in this tournament - I mean, Laettner as a senior would tear up any of the teams in this tournament.
That Duke team that beat the Fab 5 returned four starters - from a team that had just won the national championship - having beaten UNLV who, I mean, those UNLV teams were sicker than anything I ever saw.
Randle is a heck of a player for today's game, but he's nothing compared to what Larry Johnson was at UNLV.
The only coach to have two different Final 4 teams have their wins vacated. And of course Jim Calhoun's follies had UConn's 2012 vacated. What a beautiful final. Of course the NCAA doesn't care because they make millions and noone knows exactly what they do.
made it to the finals, Louisville, Wisconsin and Michigan. Kentucky just got the key play when they had too! It really shows what a great season Michigan had!
