Getting him would be huge. Adding him to the current d-line class along with all the young d-linemen already on the roster would make losing out on Hand a minimal loss. Either way, d-line should be a strength on the team moving forward if coached properly.

One team has Hand, no other team does. This is the only part that matters as far as impact on Michigan (other impacts may exist, but they're pretty debatable). Which hats were on the table has no bearing on what he'll add to one team and won't add to the 119 others. Having the hat on the table may feel like more of a loss because hopes were higher, but that's it.

He gave the impression that he would be surprised if he went somewhere else.  He didn't have any information, but he simply indicated, that McDowell grew up a Michigan fan.  And his parents are extremely enthusiastic Michigan fans. . .

so that makes me feel a little bit better at the possibility of him coming to Michigan.  But I was  a lifelong Spartan fan before I took my talents to Ann Arbor.  So you never know.

Seeing what Joey Bosa can do as a freshman, missing out on both Hand and McDowell would be a pretty big hit.  With all due respect to the rest of the kids coming in.  Great defenses usually start with some special player on the D-line at some position.  We have a lot of pluggers right now and a lot of recruiting stars but I did not see anyone in the underclassmen who does things like Bosa.  Henry is looking like a nice DT and hopefully Taco and Mario O take some steps next year but plugging in an A grade end into that line would really help especially if Peppers is 80% of the hype and Stribling can be a poor man's Ty Law type.  Sounds like the coaches want him at current weight and to go out to end if he goes Blue from recent reports from the family.

We need our next Brandon Graham - could come from anyone of course but the more high level raw material you have the easier it is to chance onto that player.

If you're looking for an instant impact true frosh on the DL next year, Mone is your best bet whether or not McDowell is a part of the class.  Not only is he enrolling early, but he's a monster who was playing at D1 size as a HS senior.  He doesn't need a whole lot of body sculpting and will get a lot of reps in spring with Pipkins out.  He won't start, but he'll be a regular contributer next fall.

I don't know about that... I wasn't as impressed with Mone's senior highlights as I was with his junior highlights. I think he's gotten a little too big. I also think those really big interior guys are tough to project as instant-impact types. They can "play" because of their size, but they're not usually impact guys that young. The edge guys seem to have more success. I actually think McDowell would have more of an *impact* or maybe Lawrence Marshall, even though Mone probably has higher upside than Marshall.

That highlight reel is beyond impressive. It wasn't surprising when he dominated at Loyola, but in this new tape he's tearing through Cass Tech's O-Line like a wet kleenex.

He has always been so hard to get a bead on. I really have no prediction. I think everyone sees Michigan as a leader just because it's close and he's been there a lot, but if you go off of what he has said it really is a toss up.

After watching that tape he needs to be priority #1 if he isn't already. Full court press.

When a kid supposedly grows up loving Michigan, and his parents are enthusiastic Michigan supporters, and yet he can't bring himself to commit, it says to me he's searching for reasons to not come here. The other schools he's going to visit will be only too happy to supply him with those reasons.

I'm glad they have that little yellow arrow or I would wonder if that behemoth of a man ragdolling offensive linemen and then obliterating ball carriers was McDowell or not.

about Malik that some do. He is going to love all these visits, especially the very first one he goes on, which is to Alabama, and he's basically the ONLY prospect their for this visit. At least, the only major one. Also, his parents weren't with him, which is kind of big.
