2014 BCS National Championship Open Thread

Submitted by MGoGrendel on

Last one, heald in the Grand Daddy of them all!

Florida State is favored by 13 on a neutral field, by some ESPN bottom line metric.  Will Jameis Winston with the Heisman and MNC and end the SEC's run of 6 straight?

Auburn is the self-proclaimed team of destiny.  Will they have one more miracle tonight?

Line: FSU - 10.5

Over/Under: 67.5

SLIGHT MOD EDIT - Not really OT for our purposes. We'll make this the open thread. - LSA

He posted an opinion contradicting established fact. I can say, "I believe Michigan is housing FSU in the national championship game right now" and I guess you couldn't say that it's wrong because it's my opinion, but for all practical purposes it's wrong because Michigan isn't playing in this game and that's not the OT rule.

Tonite worked out perfect.. the storm on the west side of the state has cancelled our night shift for work so i can actually watch the game..  must be a sign..  Glad i didn't have to DVR it then have the results ruined by some idiot later at work

Yeah - the line and the O/U are essentially predicting 39-29, and I have a feeling it will be a higher scoring game than that.  Both teams have great offenses, and although FSU's D is pretty good, Auburn's is not.

I'm really hoping FSU destroys Auburn, but the way Auburn has gotten lucky this year almost blows my mind. That's not to say they're not well coached since you have to be damn good to take a team from 3-9 to 12-1, but they needed so many things to go right for them this year that did. That luck might get them the win. Hope not, as it would end the SECSECSEC run.

Second time in a few years I'm going to be watching my wife's alma mater in the National Championship.  While I'm thrilled for her I'm still totally jealous.

I'd take a 90 minute over a Centennial or All-Day if we're talking currently available IPAs.  If you're talking best IPA between the two breweries it is Double Trouble I'd agree.

The Founders Imperial Stout is out, and that's what I'm drinking.  Cheers!

The downnside is that your going to have to hear the most monotonous cheer ever created- over and over again- if FSU is winning.

I really wish they would have the title game on a Saturday night instead of shitty Mondays. 1) I want to drink while watching this game and I don't drink on work night. 2) My obsession with CFB forces me to watch the entire game whilst losing sleep for said work.

to some sort of agreement though. They have somewhat of a symbiotic relationship, I've always thought Friday = Highschool Saturday = College Sunday = Pro. All leagues generally respect that don't they? Couldn't they do a 1 and 4:30pm start on Saturday for the NFL and give college the night game? Easy answer is no, they get less money. But if the NCAA were to say fuck you we want the Saturday night, they may both suffer short term but I believe that it would be better for NCAA in long run.

is that it would hurt them both short term but the NFL is both more able (as a more profitable enterprise) and more willing (as a profit-focused enterprise) to withstand the short-term losses, and college football would have to give up the time slot and go back to Monday or whenever.

I looked at Auburn's season record last year where they finished 3-9.  The three wins were a 3 point escape against Louisiana-Monroe and blowouts against New Mexico State and Alabama A&M.  They got destroyed in all their losses, even against the lower SEC teams.  And now they're playing for a national title.  I'm more amazed than I am jealous.  But I'm still jealous.

In terms of rooting interest for this game, I realize an FSU win puts an end to this SEC title winning streak.  But it's not easy.  Florida State was one of those programs I really hated growing up.  I hated the media's love affair with Bobby Bowden, hated the fact that Bowden's star players often still played in bowl games despite never going to class, hated that FSU only had to get up for two challenging games during the season; Florida and one team from the ACC, hated and STILL hate that Braves cheer the FSU marching band plays after every single down no matter what the result of the play, and yes, I still hold sour grapes for that 1991 game against them and how their fans ripped out pieces of the field so they could take portions of the Big House grass home with them.

So, while I'm still looking forward to the game, the result is a lose-lose for me.

Nick Saban should retire immediately and get into broadcasting. He is very good. I wish he would do just that. If this is an audition it is a great one.

I'm still very bitter about getting screwed over by the BCS in 2006.

Most of the people on here have seen Michigan win a national championship. I was 3 years old when that happened.
