2014 BCS National Championship Open Thread
Last one, heald in the Grand Daddy of them all!
Florida State is favored by 13 on a neutral field, by some ESPN bottom line metric. Will Jameis Winston with the Heisman and MNC and end the SEC's run of 6 straight?
Auburn is the self-proclaimed team of destiny. Will they have one more miracle tonight?
Line: FSU - 10.5
Over/Under: 67.5

SLIGHT MOD EDIT - Not really OT for our purposes. We'll make this the open thread. - LSA

I literally had to mute the TV because I can't listen to this dumb fuck Musberger anymore. It also doesn't help that they show Malzahn after almost every Auburn offensive play.

It amazes me how he has kept his job all these years. Annoying as hell.

Yeah, he wasn't some fly-by-night guy.
That said, he also did quite a bit of that with a transcedent offensive talent in Newton. What he's doing here with relative humans is pretty impressive.

We'll find out NEXT year how great Malzahn is? He took a team that was 3-9 last season and has them winning at halftime of the national championship game. He's already established he's pretty great.
And stop trying to compare him to Hoke. their experiences as coordinators are not the same. Hoke has never been an offensive or defensive coordinator.

He was coaching HS football in Arkansas in '05!

Nick Saban looks like he wants to offer me an extended warranty on that 2006 Buick. Nice sportcoat.

protein shakes with it, try to talk down the price on the big drum at GNC.

FSU needs to listen to Saban and run the damn ball

No he won't
January 6th, 2014 at 10:21 PM ^
Because he's the best football coach in college ball and knows his stuff.

I don't think Auburn gets to pick and choose the halftime panel.

Haha watching Lee Corso and crew try to talk smart football when they have Saban at the table is such a joke.

You are all right. It is really outstanding! I can't turn the channel now that I switched. The only kink is Millen on the set, but outside of that incredible.

It's all about the front 7 especially the DL. Every single SEC team in the championship has among the best DL in the country that can consistently blow up plays.
man UM has got to get the DL going. Watch these teams dominate the LOS its like UM is light years away....
Sure they are doing press coverage but the DL for Aub was/is blowing these plays up..very few "coverage" sacks or hurries against FSU.
Meanwile UM. Hopefully Taco and Henry can make a leap next season. Pipkins was just a guy with weight issues before the knee injury. I think it takes him a full season to recover and even potentially be good.

As much as I hate to admit it, I think you are right. The front 7 always look dominant in these games. Last time Auburn won the NC, it was Fairley who was unstoppable.
January 6th, 2014 at 10:24 PM ^
I don't care you your DBs are, nobody can cover forever.
Sure they've had good RBs, WRs, OL, LBs but other conferences have that. Nobody else has these DLs...

FSU's D line is and was far superior to Auburn. Jernigan is the best NT in the country and Mario Edwards Jr is one of the top 3 DE's in the country. They showed why last night.
January 6th, 2014 at 10:22 PM ^
Agreed. I think Hoke and co. would love to sell themselves as DL/OL University, they've done well w/ recruiting but need to get results very soon to keep the trend up.

This might be the night Jameis really becomes famous, with a big comeback.
January 6th, 2014 at 10:28 PM ^
If FSU can open with a TD to start the 2nd half, that will change everything. This is by far the most critical point in the game for them. The defense will be charged up and you will probably see Auburn start to struggle. On the other side a stop out of the gate and I would bet that Auburn will have all the energy and will immediately score to go up 28-10 (Game Over).

With Auburn up 21-3 in the second quarter, who else would have had the insighfulness to observe: "Auburn is in the perfect spot right now."

as long as it's not football talent.

That Jan Door commercial is painful to watch.

Love watching the analysis by the top college coaches. Pretty good stuff!
January 6th, 2014 at 10:32 PM ^
Ok it's time for the second half to start, I'm sick of listening to people talk about it. Not to mention the commercials.
