2014 BCS National Championship Open Thread
Last one, heald in the Grand Daddy of them all!
Florida State is favored by 13 on a neutral field, by some ESPN bottom line metric. Will Jameis Winston with the Heisman and MNC and end the SEC's run of 6 straight?
Auburn is the self-proclaimed team of destiny. Will they have one more miracle tonight?
Line: FSU - 10.5
Over/Under: 67.5

SLIGHT MOD EDIT - Not really OT for our purposes. We'll make this the open thread. - LSA

and often. Lose the split-screen and give us a full view during plays, and assign Millen to the GoDaddy bowl the night before so he can't make it back in time for the title game.

I hope it involves a plane getting shot down or a ship sinking.

Texas fans must feel so salty about Mack Brown ignoring Winston's calls.

Brent Musberger's stomach must be full from swallowing so many throat omelets.

I feel like he knows so much more than Hoke about simple nuances of the game.
For example, he saw that Winston was flustered and getting confused by the presnap Auburn movement and suggested that FSU go to a controlled no huddle so Auburn can't jump around and Winston could read the defense.
IT WORKED.
I said this about DG ALL YEAR LONG. Why not go with some control no huddle, get the ball out of Devin's hands and get a rhythm. It also stops all of the presnap confusion.
This is SUCH a simple thing. But why does Hoke have to be so hardheaded and "my way" about everything?
It's just silly common sense stuff that drives me NUTS. Little adjustments that win games.
Hoke is going to HAVE to get out of his "stuck in the 90s" mindset that he has over everything on the team and modernize everything about our program.
I'm not saying go Auburn no huddle all game, I'm not saying be a spread option team. I'm saying, we have to adjust and learn and adapt to what teams are doing. We don't be so THIS IS MICHIGAN (and this is what we do and we're not changing for anyone or anything). That doesn't work.
Team have to be flexible and teams have to adapt IN GAME.
You don't wait until the end of the year to all of a sudden combat your shitty OLine and throw screen passes to take the pressure off of them.
Hoke is a dinosaur right now and we needs to modernize his thinking while holding onto his values. The "what would Bo do?" doesn't apply to everything...

Was Hoke giving commentary on some other channel that I'm not aware of? I just don't know how you can make these conclusions since Hoke has never had this opportunity to comment on a football game as far as I know.

I certainly won't deny that Saban knows his stuff and hope networks do stuff similar to this more often. The assumptions about the football IQ of our coaching staff are getting a bit much though.

The fact that Michigan's offense failed to make adjustments to ANYTHING all season (at least prior to Ohio) and continued to do the same things that didn't work game after game after game is what was frustrating. You can claim to a certain extent that that was a lack of personnel, but at some point a great head coach can adjust for their personnel to make SOMETHING happen. Michigan's offense, by the latter half of the season, was just pathetic.

This was a very baffling season. The coaches didn't do alot of things that seemed very obvious to most fans in regards to adjustments, play calls, schemes, etc.
I wonder if Hoke and Co. know alot more about the team and what they need to do to create success then they lead on? Everything seems to be a secret with them.
The good news, I guess, is that we will probably find out next season. It's either these guys know what they are doing and have a solid plan underneath or............they don't.

Did he turn down the request and ESPN had Saban as their #2?

earlier in this thread by suggesting that Hoke would not be able to hold his own in that coach-talk megacast and admittedly crossed the line into attacking his propensity to not form a complete sentence ... but I'm not backing off it in the offseason and I appreciate posts that share my concerns. He's being paid millions, but there is hard evidence to suggest that his "strategic acumen" or "range" if you will is still limited to recruiter/D-line guru/cheerleader. After what we heard from the team before the BDub Bowl, I'm scratching off 'motivator' for now.
