2013 WR Csont'e York Offered

According to both Sam Webb and Josh Helmholdt, Michigan just offered 2013 WR Csont'e York from Harper Woods (MI) Chandler Park Academy. York visited campus today. Junior highlights:

York also has offers from Bowling Green and Toledo. He's a three-star to Scout and 247, unranked on Rivals, and isn't in the ESPN database. York was at the Columbus NFTC, and Allen Trieu had a nice writeup of him ($):

We felt the guy who really emerged here was Csont'e York from Chandler Park (Mich.) He's a tall, lean kid with fantastic ball skills. He's effortless when it comes to adjusting to the ball in the air and making tough grabs that are high or not right on target. He's not a burner, but can create separation and gave a lot of the top DBs trouble.

Looks pretty good on film, and Michigan might be getting in on a late riser just before he blows up.

6'2" 180lbs. or 6'3" 190lbs, depending on which site you believe.  So stats on speed.

Hard to judge his YAC when 75% of his catches are in the corner of the end zone.  Anyone know anything about the competition this school faces?

It appears that Burrows did play because he had an 80 yard pick six in this game that sealed the victory for Trotwood.  Just seems like some buckeye propoganda that he wasn't playing in this game.

My guess is this isn't the last major offer he's received. Cincinnati and 'Cuse just offered as well. This is a classic under the radar prospect, and my guess is he'll provide a nice contingency plan if we miss out on a couple of other WR prospects. I'm guessing if he wanted to commit right now, Hoke would tell him to wait, both because his recruitment is clearly about to blow up, and because we're in wait and see mode with a lot of WRs.

The coaches saw him today and offered on the spot, but you think they'd turn him away if he said yes today? That doesn't make any sense. Every single recruit to give an interview has mentioned how honest Hoke and Co. are about their potential role on the team. Why would they have offered him today if they were unsure about it? They want him at camp.. they could've just waited til then to offer if he is only a contingency plan.

There's no way of knowing what happened in their conversation, so it's all moot, really.

Aww, come on, Bo. Brady's just doing the best he can. Not every recruit can be a 4-star + blue-chipper. Plus, and I mean this with all due respect, I trust Brady's evaluation skills from the field a bit better than your evaluation skills from the grave. RIP, buddy.

Almost committed the worst internet crime of creating an identical thread.  Good thing I took the time to reload mgoboard before I hit submit.

This is what 247sports had to say about him as #5 preformer at the recent Columbus Nike camp:

5. C’sonte York, WR, Harper Woods (Mich.) Chandler Park Academy – With only offers from Toledo and Bowling Green York continues to quietly go about his business, demanding more offers with his play. For much of Saturday, the wide receiver group seemed to be screaming for someone to step up and emerge as a challenge to the defensive backs and during one-on-ones, York did exactly that.

The 6-2 prospect took countless reps, winning most of them and showing great ball skills, route-running and mismatch size. York has impressed us in several different settings and he deserves a lot more college interest than he is receiving

Ace, do you think this offer is a result of his talent level, or indicative of potential struggles to come with our current WR recruits? I am hoping that the coaches think he is a real talent, as they didn't even wait to offer after camp, which seems to be the norm for borderline local recruits (Gibbs).

It's wayyyy too early in the recruiting cycle—I think I need to put "IT'S MAY" in my sig line—for the coaches to be putting out flier offers to borderline guys. If they offer a kid at this point, it's because they think he's talented enough to play. Period.

Plus, Michigan is in the driver's seat for Treadwell. They only need one other receiver. With the number of WR offers being put out there, they shouldn't have any trouble filling that spot.

Not sure it says anything other than that they don't view him as anything close to a sure thing. Considering he hasn't visited or narrowed down his field, has a ton of top-flight offers, and is from the West, that's probably the right way to play it. Allen would be great to have in the class, but he's not a guy you can hold up your class waiting on, especially with Michigan's need for wideouts.

Time, space, and recruiting are mysteries to me. I appreciate the insight into what is going on behind the curtain. Most of the information out there is from the perspective of the players and the third party sites, so the coaching decisions and rationale remain relatively obscure--at least to me and many others who do not follow recruiting super closely.

Just wondering since this offer comes just after that camp.

6. Csont’e York, WR – Though he had a couple of of offers heading into the event this weekend, York is not exactly heavily recruited to date. On both Saturday and Sunday, he played as if he is a name that college coaches need to learn quickly. York has extremely long arms making his 6-2 height play even longer. He made some spectacular grabs, in both beating defenders deep and out-jumping corners for the football. Some of those catches came at crucial points during the game.

Even when he’s not getting the ball, York just runs and moves with the natural athleticism you want out of a wide receiver. Look for his stock to rise.
