2013 OT David Knevel Offered
the alabama offer is surprising! Rarely expect a National Champion SEC team to offer someone from Canada...why take a risk? Must have talent
2015 QB Michael O'Connor from Ottawa, who I believe Michigan has interest in, also has offers from Miss St. MSU, and Vandy. Seeing alot more Canadians having NFL success with Akeem Hicks, Tyrone Crawford and Phillip Blake all drafted last year.
But Alabama is located in the heart of SEC country...why take a risk on a Canadian when you are competitive for most 5 star/4 star SEC talent...talent that plays competitive football year round
I thought you were joking, but you asked this twice. Pretty much every recruit is a risk. Whether it's because they live in the north, play basketball, baseball, run track, picked up the sport late, are coming off an injury or it's just the nature of transitioning from HS to high BCS level football. Alabama doesn't get everyone they want and they don't pile up top recruiting classes by ignoring talent and potential from outside their region. They also run through a lot more recruits than most schools by utilizing medical exemptions.
Eating is murder.
Alabama offers a lot of kids. Not necessarily a commentary on the talent they offer, but it's a wider scattershot than many other elite schools.
Which seems to be working out fine for them.
Again, it kills me that we let prospects like Pocic, Levenberry, and O'Daniel get away early. With classes filling up so fast, there's just no way to forecast if there will spots down the road

The coaches pursued Levenberry until he committed to FSU, yes?
We definitely didn't let Levenberry "get away." The coaches pursued him pretty aggressively until he decided to commit to FSU.
It's been a lot. Its been a roller coaster that for some reason seemed like it would never get good. But you know what? We kept fighting. It's like that old saying goes, "Those Who Stay Will Be Champions." -David Molk
Jerald Robinson leaving and from the sounds of things a lb leaving due to a knee injury have opened up a few more slots. This is not the sec where you recruit 30 kids and cross your fingers or send a few packing when the scholarships aren't available. Some fans really are clueless. I doubt this post clears anything up for some but it was worth a shot.
I doubt any commits look elsewhere. Probably preparing for a Lewan early entry
If the staff was this unprepared for Lewan leaving we have bigger problems. EVERYONE projected Lewan as a 1st Round pick entering the year, so staff should have projected his departure long before now.
The staff has made some iffy judgments in key situations (Russ B)
3-3-5 til the day I die y'all
We have five linemen committed. They are all highly ranked. How is that unprepared?
No I'm saying if they are taking a 6th OL commit because Lewan is leaving, than they should have known all along they would be taking that many. Turning away the talent they did early because "They were only taking 5 OL" should have factored in Lewan leaving from the start.
The chances that Knevel would step in and play as a true freshman seem pretty remote. Lewan leaving a year early would hardly seem to necessitate replacing him with a player destined to redshirt.
Eating is murder.
They did not, however, know the other attrition that would occur. They lost extra players and decided they could use another Olineman. What's the big deal? This class is sick. I guess some people just can't be pleased.
"Michigan Defense" is dominating everything, in every aspect of life. That's a rough definition.

So...Michigan should have taken a commit from a guy who could potentially not fit into the class if Lewan got injured or pulled a Jake Long and stayed for 2013?
I like Pocic about as much as any other offensive lineman in the country for 2013, but you can't just take commitments from 10 offensive linemen, 14 wide receivers, and 9 cornerbacks... At some point you have to draw the line.
I read elsewhere that Knevel is aanouncing on Tuesday and has a final three of Nebraska, Alabama and West Virginia. I doubt this offer will amount to much. Got in on him way too late...
You never know. Some offers can change things. Michigan has the advantage of being fairly close to home, which may (or may not) have an effect.
Does anyone have any film on this kid?

I wandered over to RCMB for some Dawson schadenfreude, and they were consoling themselves with "let's go after Knevel"
it's consistent with Hoke and what he values with the importance of the line of scrimmage. Can never have enough linemen. . .
Sure you can. Extra offensive linemen are a waste of scholarships.
Extra DBs, safeties, linebackers, RBs and WRs can play special teams. You can move extra defensive lineman to the offensive line. You can move DBs to safety, safeties to LB, etc.. Not much you can do with offensive linemen numbers 11 to whatever.
not the other way around? Q. Washington begs to differ.
Eating is murder.
Extra offensive linemen are a waste of scholarships.
Hi, I'm 2009 through 2012. Have we met?
What position are you willing to sacrifice for an extra offensive lineman (the 10th or 11th in 2 years)? Backup QB? Those come in handy. Defensive tackle? Safety? Running back?
Safety.
The recruiting, attrition from the RR years will be VERY apparent next year on the interior of our OL. We're going to have RS frosh all over the place....regardless of how talented we are, it may be rough sledding the first half of the year.
More big uglies? yes please
But a broad statement that extra OL are a waste is... tough to defend
We only took four OL last class, not five, when we were very shorthanded. At the same time we took 5 DL. With 85 scholarships, I don't know what the ideal number is to allocate to o-line, but with so few proven players on the roster and so much playing time coming open, it seems prudent to aim a little higher now. While you mentioned not moving OL to other positions, you might have forgotten that with five OL spots they often move around more than other players.
Eating is murder.
Extra offensive linemen give you depth. What are the chances that all five or six of these class of 2013 offensive linemen will still be on the team in four or five years? A Lewan type might enter the draft. A Schifano type might quit. A Pace type might get injured. There's a pretty good chance that at least two of these guys will be gone by, say, 2015 or 2016.
didn't happen according to a scout update. Miscommunication
2014 Offer List BOYCOTT ADIDAS
The offer is still listed on Scout.
Be on the lookout for future recruits to be named Steve Austin, Starsky, Jack Tripper, McGarrett and Horseshack.
I guess this means Ohio will come offering

Interesting offer... Looks like their looking for a 6th as you said. Hopefully this doesn't upset any current committs.
