2013 OL David Dawson Blowing Up

David Dawson, a 2013 OL who just moved back to Michigan and will be attending Cass Tech, just got offered by Alabama.  He is now reporting offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida State, Missouri, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M.  Considering Michigan is going to take 4-5 OL for the 2013 class, and Dawson is attending Cass Tech, a major Michigan pipeline school, so it seems like an offer should be forthcoming soon.  With all the OL offers Michigan has sent, any reason why we haven't offered him yet?

Dawson is also #199 in latest release of Rivals Top 250 list

He'll be offered on his visit this weekend.

It was only a matter of time until this guy blew up. He's totally legit. If he improves his footwork in the pass blocking aspect of his game, he could move up the rankings quickly.

One would imagine that if he intended to play college ball in Texas he probably would have found a way to stay down there another year.   If you wanted to attend school her, you might well come back and try to enroll early.

.. aquaman I am having some difficulties with your last statement. I have an issue with literally every sentence. I just thought i would let you know this, because normally I am a fan of your work and think your a nice spark to a down site #nohomo.

It was conversation bait. Thanks for blocking it out, I guess I will explain myself:

"He'll be offered on his visit this weekend." [assumption, lacks reasoning (although highly likely, yes)]

"It was only a matter of time until this guy blew up." [Assumption]

"He is totally legit."  [Reasoning for assumption. I hope U of M gets all of the totally legit players for 2013.]

If he improves his footwork & pass blocking aspect of his game. [Thanks, These are (generally) the two areas of improvement for every OL prospect, even more so for juniors]

He could shoot up the rankings. [Rankings? These are the earliest released rankings, ever.  Rankings are usually influenced by their offers sheet and most of these kids don't have half of the number offers they will have by the start of summer.

Since when is posting one's thoughts flamebait. Nothing I wrote was irrerational. We (myself included) spend a lot of time praising aquaman for his work. But sorry  for expecting slightly more insightful posts from someone who has one on one interaction with the recruits. Again, I am a fan aquaman and enjoy watching you "build your rep."

Although Rivals lists seemingly every offensive lineman as an OT, I think he looks more like a guard than a tackle to me.  He's like Chris Bryant or Kyle Kalis - could play tackle, most likely right tackle, but probably projects best at guard.  It might come down to where we need him more, but ideally he's a guard.

Again - this is not from any source, just my take on him.

The thing is, most high schools play their best lineman at tackle.  So even if they're best suited for guard or even center, these high school kids either think they can play tackle at the next level or Rivals just projects them there because they're lazy or something.

I'm going to go out on a limb and offer him right now. Though I hold no "official" power to make such offer, I'm confident it will hold up when all is said and done.

That he previously attended Cypress Ridge HS (Houston suburb) previously. I imagine there's a good chance that in spite of the Cass Tech pipeline, that the Texas schools will be major players in his recruitment.

A lot of schools are interested in him. He had a pretty good offer sheet before Bama, but that definitely helps put him in an elite group. We're certainly going to offer, apparently (going off of what was said above) Texas is too. That's pretty much all I need to know about this kid to know that I want him to go blue, especially since he's a Cass Tech kid. Our O-line is going to be an immovable force for years to come if we continue to pull in talent like this. LTT and Dawson would be an alright start for 2013 O-line class. Just alright.

Any chance he could play C? Our OL would be totally stacked and massive if he could hold down the middle and have LTT play LT along with the recruits we pulled in this year and players like Chris Bryant. LTT Kalis Dawson Bryant Magnuson/Braden sounds like it would be one hell of a unit if we could get them on the field together.
