2013 NBA Mock Draft Projections

Submitted by Indonacious on

I realize its very early for these...but it's pretty interesting stuff!

GRIII going in the 1st round - #11
Burke going in the 1st round - # 20
Hardaway Jr. going at the top of the 2nd round - #32

When is the last time, even in projections like this, michigan had 3 essentially top 30 draft picks in basketball?

Other Big 10 players...

Zeller (Indiana) #1
Rodney Williams (Minnesota) #28
Mbakwe (Minnesota) #33
Oladipo (Indiana) #37
Paul (Illinois) #39

You are evaluating based on current capabilities.  That makes you out of touch with NBA reality.

NBA draft is all about one thing:  POTENTIAL.  They draft a guy not based not on how he is doing now, but how he MIGHT do in 2-3 years.

GRIII has body size, pedigree, skill sets that scream NBA.  So he'll be highly coveted.  Some schmuck team like the Zards will draft him, hoping he gets to that potential faster than normal, spend 2-3 years training him... THEN he'll go free agent to some other team and actually get good.

Tis life in the NBA.

The problem is that in my eyes the MBA is horrible at developing talent. The majority of coaches are hugely overrated in the pros and for the most part the ones who have success have it because of talent level and their ability as glorified personal assistants who can keep the stars happy. NBA drafts on potential but doesn't give enough time/minutes to really develop these guys and them draft the next big thing. The NBA is by far my least favorite league pro or college. For these and a multitude of other reasons.

Remember when recruiting sites said Mcgary might not even go to Michigan and right to pros?? Instead, I have to worry about this..Wow, Michigan BBall has come a long way.

This will be the year the Pistons get lucky in the lottery and get the #1 pick when the reward is Cody frickin' Zeller.

There isn't a lot of trading down from 1 in the draft. I was saying that this would probably be the year when they actually win the lottery with a lucky bounce, in a year where you'll probably get a better guy somewhere 2-6 than Zeller will be in the pros.

And man was that an awful trade. Best front court of all time given up so they can match Shaq with a guy that is going to take enough spotlight to have him ditch the team for LA.

I suppose. I just not know if I trust Joe enough to not get infatuated with Cody, trade it, and actually get omething useful out of it, AND find the unheralded draft pick that's going to be a superstar in this draft.

GRIII's game is not technichally refined enough to go in the first round. He is our 4th or 5th scoring option on offense and is not a lock down defender. Kid has a ton of potential but I see him coming back from a sophomore year.

You're not wrong. GRIII has not been forced to carry to much of the load, but he is still a very effective player averaging 12 points and 6 rebounds for a top 5 team. The NBA drafts much more on potential and raw ability than production, and it's pretty clear that GRIII has the NBA athleticism to be a pretty strong SF prospect.

I can't imagine the Pistons taking Burke when Knight is their PG of the future.

The Pistons need to be done with Austin Daye, since he'll obviously never play.  Stuckey shoots about 13%, but he's either going to be the starting SG or 1st off the bench.

PF, C, and PG are set for the Pistons - so they need wings.  Guys no smaller than 6'4" that can hit outside shots and drive to the basket without turning the ball over.  A little defense would be nice as well.  The only way they take someone at a different position is if William Clay Ford buys the team from Tom Gores.

These projections are always entertaining to look at; nevertheless, Burke to Chicago? Rose coming back and Chicago took a PG with their 1st pick last year, makes it hard to believe they would take another point guard.

NBADraft.net updates their mocks, but they don't make significant changes too often.

GRIII was up there going into this college season, I think he'll be taken off the board all together and moved to the 2014 mock draft by mid-season.

Right now he's a first rounder off potential, but he's not a lottery player. Next year he's a lottery player off both potential and results.
