2013 MI DE/DT Wyatt Shallman Offered
I know I'm usually known as the there are... guy around here, but today 2013 Detroit Catholic Central DE/DT Wyatt Shallman got his first offer, and it was from MIchigan. This is interesting that Hoke and Co. are starting already to recruit the '13 class already. Also being around the Catholic League area I think Shallman will probably project as a 4 star prospect next year. It will be interesting to see if Godin commits to Michigan that his younger teammate will follow in his footsteps. Today he seemed very excited at his first offer, and hopefully the in-state dominance will go on into 2013.
Scout says that he was offered as a TB, and they want to use him as a Brandon Jacobs type back.
A DE/DT/TB? Kid is probably a heck of an athlete.
Edit: Found a youtube video
Looks like the perfect FB for a West Coast offense. I really don't see him playing TB but if he really is almost 250 he carries it really well. He may also grow into a nice size SDE.
He almost always stops his feet on contact. A problem but one that can be fixed. He looks good!
This might be the first highlight video I've ever seen that spells "sophomore" correctly. Now I just have to find a thread that spells "Cincinnati" correctly.
Spelling snobbery aside, congrats, Wyatt -- we'd love to see you in blue.
From the camp results on ESPN, he had the best 20-yard shuttle (4.18) of any DE in his class but ran a 5.11 40. Seems a little strange, in his highlights he looks much fast than the 5.11 40 time suggests.
5.11 is, more then likely, a legit laser-timed 40 yard dash. You can take .2 of a second off a laser time to get a stopwatch 40. The majority of the times everyone sees on the recruiting sites are stopwatch times.
I saw somewhere how guys cheat on their 40 times by keeping their hand on the ground while their legs start. Timers won't start clock until they see hand move, which allows runners to shave .2 to .25 of their real time
im guessing more a fullback than brandon jacobs
It will be very interesting to see where he will play if he chose to go to MIchigan. At CC he is like Niko Palazeti, the workhorse of their offense, just a lot faster, but he is a very good defensive lineman, so if he can't see playing time at TB, I could see him becoming part of the D-Line.
Yeah, it's hard to see him not growing he is only a high school sophomore. Whatever position he lined up in the film he looked like he could eventually contribute at the next level. Good to see the coaches starting to get the ball rolling for the future classes.
This staff is getting after it that is for sure. Has anyone heard anything about O'Brien? I have heard rumors that we may have stopped recruiting him which I find hard to believe. Sorry for the thread jack. Is there any film on Wymann?
Tom VH said on Twitter (maybe this is what you're referring to) that Michigan hasn't pulled it's offer from O'Brien but has backed off. It may be that they consider him a lost cause. He sounded pretty high on Tennessee back when I last read anything about him.
That was where I heard that from, thank you. I would say that and going to Sparty's spring game should just about do it with his recruitment. I guess we really can't get them all. Michigan needs to set up a border patrol and keep anyone with Tennessee plates from entering the state. They are really starting to get annoying.
Gerg!!!
huh?
and its tough to see where exactly he projects at the next level. No denying that he is a beast, but its tough to see where he will develop on the next level. A very exciting, and surprising that he already got an offer.
he can line up as the up-back, the tailback, the second TE...gives the offense a lot of flexibility. He looks like a possible nightmare matchup to me.
Reminds me of Vincent Smith.
Lock em in early.
If there are any elite players developing on our backyard it is imperative that we offer them early. I'm all for kids deciding to go Blue two years ahead of time.
Lots of great blocking in motion without going down and sacrificing the remainer of the play on one block. I'd love ot see us make better use of the FB position. I think it's falling by the wayside at many schools, and there are some top quality athletes to be hadif you recruit the position.
We have to start recruiting 2013 now so that we can figure out the pairings for next year's commitments.
I have a hard time seeing him as a tailback, especially because a) he's a sophomore who will grow and b) we need a good tailback in 2013 if we don't get Dunn (or someone like him) this year. This offer is a bit confusing.
agreed. why this early?
i see him as a future FB, or a LB...maybe. very young though, and i could be wrong.
im hoping offers like this dont start coming out of the woodwork.
i know Hoke and Co want to really recruit the midwest hard, but the team will suffer if the staff doesnt take their time and get the best available.
Well, Cincinnati just offered as well. So its obviously not that early.
