Ray Lewis III
Committed to Miami (YTM)
As next years linebackers coach? Not a bad idea.
I don't care how big of a long shot people say he is. A visit to UM would no longer make him a long shot. You don't visit of you are not seriously interested in most cases.
Exactly why everyone is so skeptical right now...
He just wants free trips and free shit.
I think all of them should take every opportunity to travel and have fun that presents itself. If the thought of a 17 year old enjoying life does anything but put a smile on your face, I feel sorry for you.
Yeah but, it's January. You go visity USC, UCLA, Miami (YTM) or something. Places that are warm, have hot chicks, and have been known to have boosters who like to have a layer of hundred dollar bills in their hand when they shake yours so they don't get your germs, and who know said hot chicks and can set up a little one on one time if you like. You don't go to Ann Arbor Michigan in January unless you've got serious interest.
Never thought about this, but I have a theoretical question. Say a kid goes on an official to a school and gets a cash handshake at that school from a booster. Then, he ultimately decides not to go to that school and go somewhere else. If it became public that he accepted money, would it just be the school with the booster that gets in trouble, or could his eligibility be threatened?
I mean, what 18 year old wouldn't like traveling all over the country hanging out on college campuses for free.
I'd hate to think about what things I would have taken advantage of if I was the #1 RB recruit in the country as a 17/18 year old... No wait, I like thinking about the things I would have done in that situation.
As our old friend TomVH used to say on this very board, "visits can change things."
Have to. Get a cheap subscription to that magazine..the large sized one that i never read...and you can hear from him daily.
Its not the same. We don't feel as special anymore. He doesn't answer our TomVH emergency beacon like he used to.
that magazine is simply the worst. i mean, it needs to go away and go away quickly.
He has a four year old kid apparently. Wait WHAT?
Weren't you sexually active at 14? Everyone I knew was, and this could have happened to ANY of us.
Maybe he adopted a kid at 14...
Totally. But seriously pretty sure that wouldn't be legal.
I don't like to start rumors, but I heard that REUBEN FOSTER IS INVOLVED IN ILLEGAL HUMAN TRAFFICKING.
Wait..... you're serious?
I wish I ran with your crowd when I was 14.
Seriously, though, having a kid doesn't make him a bad...kid.
would easily be shunned from the Amish community.
Yeah, but you're a sheep.
I can't stand that term. Then I realized he is actually a sheep.
(((la la la la! I'm not listening. I'm not listening)))
If you have a kid who is 14+, I promise you they're having sex. At the very least oral.
Didn't expect this response to come from you of all people. Really?
Lighten up, folks. As if I really know the sexual habits of kids I don't know.
I'm sorry I let you down. You probably thought too highly of me.
I don't even think I had discovered the wonders of the internet by 14.
Virginity ran rampant amongst my cohorts at age 14. Ya know, cooties and all.
Why are you surprised?
Lots of high schoolers have four-year-old kids.
This is along the lines of bragging about your new Carly Rae Jepsen CD.
I just listen to that and the glee soundtrack IRONICALLY, OK? Dang.
So glad I had to look that up...
Not be a parent yet.
Wish i new how to downvote things so i could downvote this.
you'll get there. once you're at 100 points you can up and down vote to your heart's content
"Everybody knocks up people" - Terrelle Pryor
Comment of the day.
There are a lot players on the team right now that have kids. Well maybe not a lot, but there are definitely a few of them.
And two of them - J.T. Floyd and Fitzgerald Toussaint - have been suspended for doing illegal things this season.
Hawthorne also has a kid. Although I wouldn't support any generalization based on that.
Trent Richardson does too and he seems to have done just fine for himself.
He's doing terribly - he has to play for Cleveland!
So you are telling me that if you had the opportunity at the age of 14 you wouldn't go for it?
I heard Clowney is thinking of transferring after some Michigan (helmet paint) rubbed off on him.
I heard Clowney now wishes he already had kids.
does have kids.....for breakfast. He thought Smith was a big meal.
leading up to signing day. Does anyone have a good handle how many more we can include in this class?
If you like that rumor, this guy has some others I'm sure you'd love to hear.
That's one pissed off cat.
He visits, we got a shot. This should hopefully obliterate all discussion regarding Poggi's visit to Forrest Gump's alma mater.
I think it's a peculiar connection.
The Singletary part is more of an indicator to me than anything. At the very least, it's showing that Michigan is looking into his perceived interest to try to set up a visit. Obvious longshot is obvious, but even having the attention of the top players in the country is a win for the program, especially when it's so far outside their normal recruiting footprint.
We can debate moral victories and all that, but the amount of big-time players whom Coach Hoke and Co. have at least had a chance with has been really nice to see.
Yea, but when you go fishing you can tell all the stories you want if you don't get them in the boat.
So you can follow who's following who on Twitter?
The more I learn about this technology, the creepier it gets.
Twitter is pretty much like everything else; it's a valuable resource if you use it correctly. Many do. Many don't.
There are a lot of creepy things about twitter. That, to me, is not one of them
Really no different than Facebook, if your friends with someone you can see who they are friends with.
If this were Northwestern or Vanderbilt having "interest" or landing a visit from a 5 star would be a win as far as perception. At Michigan it's not going to raise anyone's eyebrows. Out of the 26 five stars on Rivals I can count around 10 who at one point had us in a top group or visited.
Yes, but that's a victory. 2-3 years ago, very few of those guys were considering us or visiting us, and you can't get them to commit without first being on their radar. Being in the final group for these guys has no on-field benefit when they pick someone else, but it helps the image of the program and will probably convince other recruits to consider us as well, some of whom will pick Michigan.
This young man is ULTRA talented, but his recruitment is a circus right now.
This is awesome. Big difference between just being interested and visiting. Even if he doesnt commit, him visiting and talking about it is great for our recruiting.
I find it interesting he is visiting Washington, they seem like the odd man out in the group he has with medium interest.
“I like the atmosphere at Washington,” Foster said. “When I see the sunshine, pretty trees, and people having fun on yachts; it reminds me of Florida.”
Sunshine in Washington?
In summer, sure.
Well, I understand that there is indeed sunshine there; but to compare it to Florida seems a stretch. Anyway, I think it'd qualify as a shocker to have this kid come to UM.
Anyone know what his mom thinks about all of this?
Sunshine yes. Also 200 days of rain, and a shitload of snow. It's not like Florida here sorry. But yea, legalization makes it easier to stay inside
Now if only will still had Bill Martin...
Colorado and Washington should totally put that at the forefront of their recruiting pitches.
I do seriously wonder if, in states where pot has been legalized, if some teams will change suspension policies related to marijuana use (I may be making a leap here in thinking that UW has such a policy or that CU even continues to field a football team).
Even though it's legal, it's still a substance that isn't allowed by the NCAA and athletes are still subject to random testing.
Is there not an age limit associated with the legalization of pot in CO and WA like there is with alcohol?
It's still a banned substance at the federal level.
Not to get political, but how aggressively is the Obama administration pursuing the enforcement where medical marijuana is legal or legalized? I guess legalized on the level of WA and CO has yet to be seen but as I recall, Obama told Holder to back off on places that were in compliance with local laws when medical marijuana laws were being passed left and right but then he backed off on that? Still a lot of things are legal that teams prohibit during the season.
I've read that Obama publicly stated that the federal government wouldn't pursue marijuana cases in states where it has been legalized but I've also read about cases where they have done so anyway. The real issue, though, is that schools aren't going to let their players do something that is illegal in the United States and neither is the NCAA.
Wonder if he still has the Auburn tattoo...
Do you have any sense of whether or not the idea that Sebastian LaRue has interest in Michigan has any truth to it? I don't have a Twitter account, so I'm asking here.
LaRue said that Shane Morris told him that the coaches are still interested. Not sure if anything has changed, but that is how the LaRue interest in Michigan thing started.
But, seems unquestionable that a visit puts us in a better position than no visit. I know the board is down on the numbers of top kids that we lose out on, but have a little perspective. Everyone wants four- and five-star kids. Hoke & Co. have definitely landed a very nice share of the four-star crowd since arriving in Ann Arbor; only way to start hitting that mark for five-stars is to have more irons in the fire. Welcome to the fire, young man. We hope you join the greatest program in the country.
I'm not getting my hopes up. I think he'll stay in SEC country, but everything I've heard about him is that he is a force to be reckoned with at linebacker. He's already got the size and physicality to play, and perhaps start right away at almost any school.
Wanting and doing are two comepletely different things
Here we go, he's got a spot reserved on the bus with Dee Hart, Demar Dorsey, Leon McQuay and anyone else who has been highly touted and still never made it here.
Is that parked next to the bus with Ryan Mallett, Sam McGuffie, Chad Henne, William Campbell, and Shane Morris?
dont mention henne and morris with the rest the others are busts
Mallet turned out to be pretty damn good, but at Arkansas. Casualty of The Process, Carr/Rodriguez edition.
The point is that they were all 5* recruits who made it to campus.
If anything Morris doesn't belong on that bus, the kid hasn't even played a snap at the University of Michigan, let alone production and accuracy concerns that abound him.
Nope. It's parked over by the one with Devin Gardner and Kyle Kalis on it. They're trying to make room for Patrick Kugler, but it's a tight fit with Kalis there.
That bus is in A lot, this one usually parks in C lot
to find Reuben Foster and recruit him for us
All this Reuben talk made me hungry, so I went to the local sandwich shop and picked one up. May be that's why Hoke & Co are interested. They're hungry and they want a Reuben. A giant one at that. They just have to pick him up.
Was he able to come back from injury this year? Didn't he have an ACL boo boo?
I doubt he'll end up here, but damn, I can't help but get excited, the kid is a monster. If we got Foster that would be five 4-star and one 5-star recruits at linebacker the past two years. Not to mention we still have Jake Ryan for two years, god willing. Michigan would be turning into linebacker-u if we nabbed Foster.
Five star recruit....one star attitude. If half of what I've heard about him is true....I'm completely fine with him going elsewhere.
Are you also the guy that follows TMZ and takes their word as if it were facts in The Wall Street Journal? The kid is in high school...give him a break
I was able to watch the video interview with Foster and Poggi. Foster doesn't seem like the most intelligent person but he seems like a good guy. I don't know what you've heard (probably something to do with pay for play) but he reminds me of Dorsey in the fact that he might want a fresh start somewhere far away. That is yet to be determined but I would welcome a talent like that and have faith that they staff would help mold him into not only a great player but a great man.
Fine, maybe that was a bit harsh. I'd be floored if he actually committed though - the gravitational pull of the south is massive, as is having a kid in the region.
Is all of that "good" weight?
Not putting too many eggs in that basket, but what a nice basket that would be.
seems like he is too big to have decent pad level
...we did need some beef on the interior.
Is all that "good" weight?
For crying out ducks, it was a joke- "2013 LB" kinda looks like 2013 pounds. Foster is a rock, I wasn't suggesting he was fat. Good grief, does anyone have any sort of sense of humor?
but he is definitely a long shot. It's strange to see a 5* prospect from Alabama that hasn't fallen into the clutches (yet) of either The Tide or Auburn. Pulling players like this out of the deep south is very hard to do. But, a campus visit makes it at least possible.
If I remember correctly, kid was committed to Bama, flipped to Auburn, and now with their issues he's obviously looking elsewhere now.
What a long shot he is for us. Now I understand the hype, but that kid bounces from school to school. If for some divine reason he decides to come here it better be the day before or the day of signing day because if it's sooner that gives him enough time to voice to another school. I hope we get him though, after watching his film he is really fast and can tackle really well.
Bounce to another school*
but a teenager in Foster's position and location coming all the way up north to attend Michigan strikes me about as likely as Brady leaving for an NFL job. Neither are worth spending any time thinking about for Michigan fans at the moment. Teenagers are generally fickle as hell, constantly falling in and out of love with new things, and Michigan is a new thing for Foster. If he actually takes a visit that will be an achievement by itself.
Saban would free up a scholarship for him in about 15 seconds.
