2013 K/P J.J. McGrath Lists Michigan in Top 10

Submitted by MGoShoe on

2103 K/P J.J. McGrath (Lutheran HS North, Macomb) just tweeted:

@_McGrath13 Top 10: MSU, LSU, South Carolina, Bama, Auburn, USF, Air Force, Cal, Florida, Michigan (No specific order/cut down to 5 after June camps)

With Matt Wile entering into his sophomore year, 2013 might be the year for the next scholarship kicker/punter.

McGrath's self reported profile/stats at kicking.com

The recruiting sites haven't begun to rate 2013 specialists yet, but kicking.com rates him the #2 2013 kicker (rankings appear to be based on 2011 HS season stats vice kicking camp results).

It appears the last camp he attended was the Kohl's Kicking Camp held 27 June 2011 at Saline HS. He compared favorably to MSU's 2012 preferred walk on Kevin Cronin of Traverse City and hit a 58 yd FG at that camp according to this ESPN recap.

According to the tweet, McGrath will attend camps this June, so we'll see if he starts garnering additional attention then.

In his freshman year, Gibbons will be a 5th year senior, Hagerup a senior, and WIle a Junior, not to mention preferred walk-on/bcs caliber punter/kicker nate allen will be a redshirt freshman, I think we can wait until 2014.

Lots of if's... I'm not overly confident with the kicking side of the ball.  Hagerup is one screw up away from Bolivia and Gibbons is one year removed from missing extra point length attempts.

...research. In this interview he lists MSU as his #1 and seems enamored with UF (says his father played soccer there and will camp there this summer).

At around 7:00, he says Michigan was "all right" and that Ann Arbor is "a cramped town" and he's "not really a city guy."

It looks like Michigan makes this top ten as a token and his "no specific order" is probably an order.
