2012 Senior Leadership

Submitted by TorontoBlue on

Regular season complete, on hold waiting for Bowl Selections, took a quick look at our senior class leadership for next year.  Appears we are in good hands with 14 solid guys.  Any thoughts on potential captains?  Here's the list:

Denard Robinson

Darryl Stonum

Roy Roundtree

Brandon Moore

Ricky Barnum

Elliot Mealer

Rocko Khoury

Patrick Omameh

Craig Roh

Will Campbell

Brandin Hawthorne

Kenny Demens

JT Floyd

Jordan Kovacs

Denard and Kovacs seem like locks at this point. Other than that, maybe JT? Demens? I doubt Stonum gets it after his suspension, but you never know. The players know these guys more than I do, obviously (I don't think many would have pegged Koger as a captain, but he's a leader on the team, for example).

On a related note: BWC is going to be senior? I guess that's right. Poor guy, we will have hardly known him.

The first two are givens and I feel as if from what ive seen of Omameh, he is a very well spoken outgoing individual who for lack of a better phrase "gets it". I feel like the loss of RVB and Molk takes a bigger toll on the team from a leadership standpoint than anything.

I'd agree that Denard and Kovacs are both locks. I'd like to see Roh as the third captain. I've always really liked him and his potential, even though he has disappointed me a little this year. I'm not sure if the whole RichRod defense hurt him when he was switching from DE to LB all the time but I feel like he has great potential for a fantastic season next year after one more year with Hoke and Mattison.

I know he's not a senior, but he's got the most experience on the offensive line, and that is a usual source for captains. Two year captains are rare, but I think Lewan really matured this year. I think the offensive captain will be Denard, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's Roundtree or Lewan. Of course, it could be someone else who is a real locker room leader type that we don't know about yet. I wasn't expecting Koger to be named captain, but he did a great job by all accounts.
