2012 recruit you are most excited about

Submitted by Chi-Blue on

Fun time of the year with NSD approaching quickly. By far the kid I am most excited to see in 2012 is Pee Wee Pipkins, especially after seeing him look so good in the AA Game.

2. KK, especially when he starts at Ohio!!

3. James Ross, instictive as they come . . . a welcomed change!!

was my favorite, I thought he would be a killer TE or athletic DE.

Favorite Recruit: I like Mario O. now.  The skinny DE on Alabama gave me hope for fast and athleticguy who can own the edges.

2.) Funchess seems like a serious weapon if the coaches can use him.

3.) Wormley seems like he could be as good as Spence and the like if he can get coached up.

Kalis, Bolden, Ross etc are just solid and great recruits

...Chesson.  Pipkins because it is a major position of need and I can't wait to see what he looks like in the fall.  Chesson because I think his game is highly underrated and will be a great college wr.  As a whole, very excited about this class and I have a feeling 2013 will be even better.

I'm really curious about Drake Johnson and Matt Godin.  Two die-hard Wolverines that had interesting recruitments.  I'd like to see both guys have long, successful careers.

Yuri Wright as a Jr..  6'2" CB with speed = forget about it.

I'm also excited to see Drake Johnson returning kicks/punts, could be our best since Breaston.

I also think people are sleeping on Sione Houma and Drake Johnson.  Given Borges affinity for big fast backs, I can see these guys doing a lot of damage on throw back screens, wheel routes, FB dives for short yardage, etc. I have this gut feeling Drake is going to be a Playa!

GRIII will end up being the best Recruit of 2012, no disrespect to Mitch (Love his Game) but Glenn has the makings of a NBA star and I can still remember his Dad dominating the Big Ten!

What he did over Macho Grande made me really excited about the future.

Wait, we aren't talking about fictional characters from movies?  Oh then I'll take Kalis

I Can't Choose. Seriously, what makes this class, from my perspective, is the depth and breadth across so many positions.

But, if you're forcing me to choose, I'll go with position groups.

  1. Offensive Line. If we add Garnett, and even Diamond, I'd be ecstatic. We already have five, six if you count Williams. We could have eight solid recruits which would be obscene, and restore balance in what was an area of disaster.
  2. Linebacker Corps. Four solid recruits. Jenkins-Stone, Ross, & Bolden are incredible. Again, this was an area that needed to be shored up.

Generally, it is very hard to predict exactly who will shine. (which is what makes questions like the OP's query interesting, I guess.) However, with the depth at both OL & LB, we can be assured that there will be several guys who will shine. If someone gets injured, or homesick, or doesn't transition well to college, we'll be ok. All our eggs aren't in one basket.

I am much, much happier with our recruiting prowess. Between Mattison, Jackson, Hoke, Borges, Funk, Heck, Montgomery, Mallory, and Singletary, they are doing an awesome job of recruiting. It is GREAT to hear how much recruits like the coaching staff, and relate well to them.

I'm excited to see if Wormley/Godin/Strobel can make an impact on the D-Line right away as I'm petrified by our lack of depth there. But yeah, Pipkins is just awesome in so many ways so I'm most excited about him.

Darboh and Wilson honorable mentions...

Has to be Joe Bolden, watching the Under Armour All-American game he has the motor that all the coaches talk about.  Reminds me of Jared Allen (maybe a little high praise of wolverine players) in how his motor runs and is always around the football.

Strobel and Kalis. Mainly because they probably would have been at OSU if not for Tatgate. I hope they become All-Americans so it hurts the Buckeyes everytime they see their names.

But this class is good and deep. Alot of impact players in this class IMO

I'm most interested in Strobel and Houma.  I think Strobel plays some as a freshman.  Love his attitude and upside.

Houma is interesting because I have no idea what the plans are for him in the long term.  I agree that he looks like a redshirt but long term I think he adds something different to the offense.
