Ha.....who in the blue hell gave us a first place vote? I love me some preseason polls: I swear half these guys just put teams high so they can drop them massively when they lose one.

Is this for real? It has finally happened? Wow, people may have actually thought about some of their votes. I must have looked over them.

Fuck the SEC. Bunch of " I beat someone in the best conference so I am the best" bullshit.

SOS

LSU 29
Bama - 28
Georgia - 48
South Carolina - Outside top 50
Arkansas - 18

This is a self fulfilling prophecy. Essentially the SEC has decided "If we refuse to schedule large non-conference games unless they are a top-2 (LSU vs Oregon, Bama v. Michigan), we can hedge our bets that we win that one game and can parade conference superiority."

These polls aren't just fun speculation like pre-season mags.  Ranking teams before they've played a game and before anyone knows how good they really are has had ramifications all the way through the season, right up to the BCS.

The BCS will soon be a memory, but in a better world, no rankings would be released until everyone had played at least 4 games.  It'll never happen, of course...the media wouldn't sit still for that, since they'd have a lot harder time hyping their September games.

Why people talk about where we are ranked compared to Sparty, they have kicked our ass the past 4 years, I couldn't give 2 shits about rankings, just win. Unfortunately Spart can talk crap because they have had our number, no point in reasoning with them until we finally beat them and there is no guarantee we do it this year...

Because I'm not getting all excited because of preseason rankings? Why...because I'm not worried about where Sparty is ranked? I want to beat their ass, I want to beat Ohio's ass...like I said, I couldn't give two shits about our ranking right now nor am I gonna get pissed if Sparty is ahead of us or behind us in the polls...

I think pretty much everyone on this board understands that preseason rankings are meaningless.  I don't care where MSU or OSU are ranked, but what entertains me is watching their fanbases get fired up about being ranked behind us.  The only people who put any credence in polls before a single snap is played don't know much about college football.

For him to be the second best QB in conference, he'll be trying to beat out Martinez (who will be playing without the best LT on their team) and Vandenberg, who he was definitely better than at the end of last season. I would go into saying that Meyer happens to have a strong history with developing dual threat quarterbacks, but I've been reading way too much about that lately.

Best DL in the conference (including the best defensive player by far, John Simon); young and very talented LBs; good enough DBs.  They always have good DBs.

Multiple options at RB, and they'll find somebody to play WR.  Braxton Miller is going to be an unholy terror in that offense for 3 years.  They'll be our second toughest opponent this year.

On the other hand, Miller looked awful throwing last year, they lost some significant talent--especially at WR, and they're installing a new system. Meyer is good, and they definitely have talent, but they also have far more question marks than many other teams. Among many talking heads, OSU had very high expectations in the preseason last year--they were expected to compete for a B1G title and be much better than us, for example. I give them a high ceiling and a low floor. I wouldn't be surprised at 10-2 or 7-5.

I truly think he's going to excel in Meyer's offense.  I thought the kid played incredible for a true freshman in "The Game."  I know he missed some passes, but the Ohio offense was an abortion for much of the season.

People will compare this transition to ours with RR.  No comparison.  They have a QB in year one who was meant to run this offense, and he's only a sophomore so no missed value in year 2.

That being said, we are still going to beat them this year.
