Dylan said in his overview that this fills the last open slot for the 2012 class. So not sure if we'd have have room unless someone leaves. Does seem odd that we'd take a pair of 6'5 wings for the only two spots unless the idea is to straight up replace Novak and Douglass.

Glenn Robinson III to be just as tall as his dad who is 6'8"-6'9". His dad was a monster when he played for Purdue. Dominant low post scorer yet still have the touch to make mid-range jumper.  His son is a much different player(like Tim Hardaway Jr. and his dad). More of a wing player who can shoot and slash.

Reportedly, Terry MIlls was a G/F wing-type player until he had a 6-inch growth spurt.   I agree that GRIII should end up being about as tall as his dad and turn into a 4 with outside range.  Beilein is sorta like Chuck Daly was; he seems happy to let his 5 shoot 3-pointers.

I had numerous x rays done. I was told I was going to be 6'6". I'm the same 6'2" my dad was. It's not an infallible science. It's a guess. No need to be dickish about it.
Until it happens it's speculation.

What is a 5 anyway? What teams have 5's? Is Sullinger a 5? He plays like a 5 but is not really tall enough to be considered a "true" 5. Ralph Sampson III, he ain't nothing but a tall small forward. Duke has a couple 5's but they ain't anything to drool over.

I don't think we need a five, be nice to have a Tim McCormick or a Roy Tarpley but they don't come around very often. Nobody on M's NC squad was a 5. Weber and Howard weren't 5's either, only 5 on that team was Riley and he didn't even start.

Unless we get a guy like Sim Bhullar we aren't going to have a 5 and I think Belien is just fine with that. If Belien can find a 6'10'' guy who can play D in the post and step out and hit the 3, he will be happy with that.

both had very good back to the basket games.  Webber could also defend against the other teams big man because of his strength and athleticism.  You knew during crunch time if you fed Webber in the post he was going to score and on D he would clear the boards.  Kevin McHale was another guy that had a protypical 5 hole game yet he played the four.  Sullinger, while not ideal height wise, is very good with his back to the basket and is a rebounding machine.

If you want to be elite you have to have someone you know is going to get that big defensive rebound in crunch time.  To many times this team plays great D only to give up an offensive rebound when they can least afford it.

Well Duke and Butler made it to the championship game last year without a great rebounder, most teams don't have that deluxe rebounder. I agree with you though, you would love to have that guy. It would be awesome for M if Horford or Beilfeldt developed a nice outside game on O, and were able to dominate the glass on the defensive boards.

I think we will be fine once Morgan, Bielfeldt, Horford mature and gain more experience. I think we can get deep into the tourney with the roster we have now, tricky part is keeping it toghether. We need Morris and Hardaway to sign contracts binding them to M for at least 2 more years.

Stauskas for quite some time.  Got his man again.

Dylan's bottom line analysis:

Stauskas is a great fit because of his size and shooting ability. He’s versatile enough to play numerous positions in Michigan’s offense – most likely the two and three – and will be a great complement to some of the other guards on Michigan’s roster. Joining the roster after Stu Douglass and Zack Novak graduate, there’s also a pretty significant hole in regards to three point scoring production.

On another note, regarding a recruit. Trey Burke's Columbus Northland squad was just smothered by Cincinnati Lasalle.  He played shaky but looks to be a nice fit to the Beilein system.

Please don't start second guessing coach Beilein's evaluations. It is clear coach keeps his own counsel when it comes to evaluating talent. Stauskas is no slouch. He is reputed as being a dead eye perimeter shooter (better than Zack or Stu and maybe even on the same level as THJR although he can't create off the dribble like THJR does). This is a GREAT get for us. The kid was being recruited by Stanford, Wake and Georgetown. I rcently read Kansas was ready to offer. The bottom line is we're BACK!!

Driving to the hoop seems to be a pretty good part of Stauskas' game according to UMHoops' commitment post:

Stauskas has terrific shooting range but is more than just a shooter. He does a great job attacking the basket and is an able finisher in the lane. He shows a very good feel for the game and appears to be a solid passer as well. He’s not a great athlete in terms of lateral quickness but he’s an above average leaper. His skill set and shooting ability combined with his 6-foot-5 (and growing) size make him a very intriguing prospect. One scouting website called him a “high major shooter deluxe” and that’s probably fitting; a shooter first and foremost that can do enough of the little things to elevate his game.

You certainly could be right.  There are a ton of options, including kids we haven't even heard of yet.  As long as we pull in one "big", I'll be happy - whether it's Bhullar or someone else
