Submitted by robbyt003 on

Todd McShay came out with his 7 round mock draft today.

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2012/story/_/id/7852469/2012-nfl-draft-complete-seven-round-mock-draft

Here is how he has the Michigan players:

Mike Martin          NO SAINTS   26th pick, 3rd round

David Molk                  DENVER          2nd pick,   5th round

Junior Hemingway NYJ                  37th pick, 7th round

Kevin Koger                PITT                  41st pick, 7th round

A first-round mock draft might have some predictive value, but after that it's just silly.  Mocks rarely even hit on anyone near the end of the first round - what's the point of forecasting that the Jets will take Hemingway in the seventh round?  May as well just say that he's expected to be a seventh round pick rather than adding a guess that has almost a zero percent chance of being right.

I'm hoping if Molk is there in the 3rd he goes to the lions...it may be my homer glases, but he just seems like a great player to backup this year, then start in 13

Compensatory picks

In addition to the 32 selections in each of the seven rounds, a total of 32 compensatory picks are awarded to teams that have lost more or better compensatory free agents than they signed in the previous year.[58] Teams that gain and lose the same number of players but lose higher-valued players than they gain also can be awarded a pick, but only in the seventh round, after the other compensatory picks. Compensatory picks cannot be traded, and the placement of the picks is determined by a proprietary formula based on the player's salary, playing time, and postseason honors with his new team, with salary being the primary factor. So, for example, a team that lost a linebacker who signed for $2.5 million per year in free agency might get a sixth-round compensatory pick, while a team that lost a wide receiver who signed for $5 million per year might receive a fourth-round pick. awarded at the ends of Rounds 3 through 7

If fewer than 32 such picks are awarded, the remaining picks are awarded in the order in which teams would pick in a hypothetical eighth round of the draft (These are known as "supplemental compensatory selections").

Compensatory picks are awarded each year at the NFL annual meeting which is held at the end of March; typically, about three or four weeks before the draft.

Eh, I think this sounds about right. Junior is a playmaker, but he was often injured. He could go as high as the 5th round, IME. I do hope that Koger gets drafted and RVB finds his way into the draft as well.

7 round mock draft?  Isn't that like "pin the tail on the donkey" at that point?  And why does ESPN keep shoving McShay down our throats?  We already have one draft expert who gets everything wrong, why do we need 2?

I'm not trying to troll or be the spelling police, but Junior Hemingway is one of those guys who has been on the team for what feels like 16 years. It's Hemingway.

Whenever you have to start a sentence with, "I'm not trying to", you are trying to.

BUT I apologize for double tapping the M key and misspelling his name.  He is my favorite player from this past season and I have made the appropriate adjustments.  Now I just hope the Lions take a shot at him in the 7th round if he is available.

trade up to get an impact player in the first round.  They need so much help in the secondary, O-line and RB they could stand to have three picks in the first 2 rounds.

I think Molk and Martin are by far the best UM bets to get drafted, it seems Michigan receivers don't get a lot of attention early on.  Junior made some great catches, but in the NFL you have to get open and I don't know if he has the speed to separate in the NFL.  He didn't separate much in college.

RVB should land somewhere, it'll be late but he'll get picked up.

I (sadly) can't see him getting drafted.

I can't wait till we're back to regularly have surefire picks in the first round. Keep recruiting Brady!
